3VO Zagg Screen Protector

Personally, I like Zagg screen protectors. I can see why people wouldn't like them because "yes" when new, they are a little sticky. But, I found a solution (literally and figuratively) and the solution is called Clean Touch by Monster Cables. The screen cleaning solution is made to clean and prevent fingrprints by leaving a microscopic (thin) layer on top of any touch screen device. The Clean Touch screen solution makes the Zagg screen protector feel so much smoother and it even gets it clean!

Also as a side note do not plan on using the Otterbox Defender Case along with a Zagg screen protector, as it will NOT work. The reason for this is because the Otterbox Defender Case comes with a built in screen protector and it wants to stick to the Zagg screen protector...which makes the Zagg bubble and peel.

Good luck to you with whatever you choose and be careful not to drop your 3VO!

The solution I've found that works really well is Snake Oil, it sounds weird but it works wonders. I've got some really fresh high quality stuff, want to buy some?

I ordered the phantom skinz for the reason that it comes with the camera protector. I was using the Zagg smudge free till now and yes, it is smudge free. But it is short (about a 1 to 1.5mm gap on all sides after installation) - looks like they did that on purpose because folks use it with a case. Since I don't use a case, it looks kinda awkward.

Hopefully, the phantonskinz gives full screen coverage. Even if it doesn't, it is less than half the price (and I should get two sets of screen/camera protectors). I say "should" because I'm waiting for it to be shipped (ordered yesterday) :)

It does not. I have the phantomskinz and neither the front bezel nor the camera's bezel are completely covered 100%. It's the same as the Zagg.

ICK! I was hoping for the coverage I got on my EVO 4G (full coverage end to end) with the regular Zagg screen...

Oh well, at least this is cheaper.

How bad is the coverage? a couple of mm short on each side? And how is the feel? Is the texture the same as regular Zagg (not the no-smudge version)?

Edit: What I hate is that neither of the manufacturers (Zagg/phantomskinz) make this clear on their website...

Approximately 1mm to 1.5mm gap, depending on accuracy of your placement. IMO, it's a bit slicker than the Zagg I had on the 3vo, first. Not as slick as the bare glass, but noticeably slicker than the Zagg. At first, though, it was roughly on par with Zagg, slickness concerned. After a day or two of normal use, and the adhesive fully drying, it improved significantly. Even in glare, I can barely notice the "orange peel" effect.

My Zagg is by far the worse screen protector I have ever used, my screen attracts so much crap, it does nothing for protection as fa as smudges, and such, and the smudge proof one ruins the screen, maybe its time to try phantoms

I wasn't trying to sell the Monster screen cleaner stuff to you...just saying that it works for me.

I'm just having a little fun being totally facetious. If it works for you then more power to ya. ;)

I just found that the product was WILDLY over priced just like I suspected. Just like everything else with the Monster name on it. It is $24.95 for 20mL. Which is WAY too much for a product that more than likely consists mostly of water. By my rough calculation, if you were to purchase it by the gallon like gas, you would pay approximately $4,722.30 per gallon!

The kicker is that they have a banner ad part way down on their product page that reads "Don't get ripped off!...". How Ironic.

Well thanks for the information, to tell you the truth I never thought of it like that (i.e. + $4,000/gal)...

Actually, I first won a little trial kit for CleanTouch at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) last January and just bought it for ~$20 last week. Believe me, I thought it was damned expensive too, but since I'm still in the honeymoon phase with my phone I am taking every precaution and sparing no expense! Haha anyways, thanks for your input/help and happy droid.

While it is the true statistic, I admit it is sort of an exaggerated way to think about it. Come on who would buy the stuff by the gallon? It doesn't reduce the ridiculousness of their pricing. I kind of figured they don't sell it for quite $24.95 in stores ie somewhere around $15-20. But it is still alot. I understand where you are coming from though.

You were at CES? Cool! I've kind of always wanted to go to one of those big Electronics or Music trades shows. See some cool stuff and get some giveaways. Meet someone famous. I can't imagine the crowds of people are fun though.

I got my Phantom Skinz in the mail on Monday.. It took me several painstaking minutes to do a proper install. My advice is to be patient, use generous amounts of water (I did my install on a towel to mop up the excess easily), and start with the camera. I notice the "orange peel" on this skin, as well as the Zagg, but I think it is just the vinyl. I have about a 1mm gap on top, 1.5mm gap on the bottom, and 0.5mm gap on each side. I'll try to get some pictures up later. Overall, I like the slickness of this one over the Zagg, plus I got a camera skin too, all for under $8.

I know the phantomskinz site indicates that we should soak the skin (with the backing) first, and then after removing the skin from the backing, soak it again, and then apply it with lots of water.
That just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen (water into the phone earpiece or thru' other gaps). Zagg on the other hand just needed a spray on the sticky side of the screen protector. Do you know if the phantomskinz would work the same way (by only applying the solution on the sticky side)?
I've used Zagg on other devices - and am waiting for phantomskinz for my 3D

They are essentially the same type of material, so you can use either method, although the soaking method isn't as bad as you think. Water alone doesn't hurt the device, just as long as you make sure it's thoroughly dried before reinserting the battery (silica gel packets and several hours), and that water doesn't touch the water damage sticker.

I actually prefer the phantomskinz method as the warm soap water makes it a bit more pliable.

Got a zagg installed at bestbuy yesterday. It looks streaky and appears to have a 1000 specs under the screen. Will this fade after a few days, or should I go ahead and have it reinstalled?

If it isn't crystal clear after 48 hrs, I would go back and ask for it to be reinstalled..

Is it an adhesive feeling, like glue, or is it difficult to run your finger over the screen? If it's a glue feeling, that is bad. If it's just tough, it gets easier, but not by much. And that should happen over the course of a few days.

The stickyness of the screen improves within a few weeks, correct?

I am going to have to have it reinstalled...it looks horrible.

The stickyness doesn't go away, until you use a solution on it... I found that if you use Monster LCD Screen cleaner with a micro fiber... it's makes it verry smooth.. havn't tested with Windex or anything...

What about car wax?

Went and got it reinstalled. Guy seemed to know what he was doing, looks 10 times better than it did, and it has only been installed for an hour.

Here is my question.. I've had a naked Evo since Launch last June. Never got a scratch on the glass screen. Do people really have that many issues with getting scratches on their screen?

It's for piece of mind. Or paranoia. One of those two :P
