Help 4.3 problem

Well I contacted Samsung & they have not acknowledged that there is an issue, they told me to take it to a service center for repair.
So I take it to a repair centre who look at it & tell me "but its on 4.3, this is not an official release, the official release is 4.1. You must have flashed it yourself. There is nothing we can do as you have changed the firmware"
So what are we to do? Samsung issue a bad release then pull it leaving those people who installed it with phoned that do not work.
I wonder what % of people who took the update have issues?

Mark, you are kidding me?! What an effing joke!

They've told me to take it into a service centre as well, but I've since posted in another part of the forum to ask for help flashing it back to a previous version. You should email them back and tell them that you've been accused of doing that - don't stop there!

I think I'm going flash via Odin (my post here) and let you know how I got on...

Hi Bullitt,
Yep, I know, but they told me that they are not allowed to flash anything other than the latest version, as mine have 4.3 its higher than the release of 4.1 they wont touch it.
I have emailed Samsung asking for them to send me a new phone, lets see!

Nice.

Keep us updated mate.

My flirt with Odin hasn't gone according to plan, only because I can't remember my login for XDA and nothing sinister!

I'll also update with progress.

The 4.3 update fiasco has made the national news, Sky News to be exact, it will be interesting to see if or how Samsung respond...

It was also on the BBC. Take a look at the Samsung Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/SamsungMobileUK and see the many people in the same position and the Samsung replies by "George" the official spokesman who is about to wear his paste button out on his keyboard. One reply was that a fix should be ready in 15 days. Think it's time for affected users to get together and demand compensation

Considering the welshman's post about it being in the main stream media, I'd complain to both Samsung and the shop you took it to for wasting your time, falsely accusing you of tampering with your phone and out-and-out lying.

Yep, kinda hoping that as it has made mainstream news, they will get a few more people onto it and fix it ... rather than want some people are thinking will happen is to skip 4.3 (like they did with 4.22) and start looking at 4.4 .... if tihis happens ... trashed phones for quite a while for some people :-(

Yes. They should either put out a fixed 4.3 quickly or push out 4.1.2 again.

Hello there

I updated my S3 to 4.3 OTA and it's ruined my phone! Slow, laggy, crashing and battery being eaten. You said you had downgraded back to 4.1.2. Could you tell me how I can do this please? Just want my phone back the way it was!

Many thanks for any help you can offer.

I've been doing some reading about flashing back and there have been reports about IMEI numbers not being recognised and phones not connecting to the network prior to flashing. Kind of scared me off.

I'm just going to wait until Samsung pull their fingers out and fix it. Going to buy a Nexus 5 at the end of the month anyway, instead of the S4 I was going to buy!

my phone seems to of settled down a bit now, music playback is still sketchy,my wife dropped her S3 while out on my birthday ,went to get the screen fixed but CPW said

has anyone heard anything from Samsung about any further updates to fix the last 4.3 one...?
if anything my phone is getting worse, turning on and off on its own, 2 mins to unlock (sometimes), generally very slow....

My phone is doing the same, i'm also getting messaged about applications hanging.
I got the below from Samsung yesterday:-
Once the issues have been resolved an update will be released to get your device back in working order.

We are unable to provide a specific release date the update to resolve these issues.

So no, they are still looking at it.

My phone is getting steadily worse. It freezes when trying to answer calls which is extremely annoying. I can't believe Samsung went ahead with this update when people had already reported how buggy it was. I rang Samsung today and they said it would be a couple of weeks before any update.
I'm tempted to try and fix it myself by using a different firmware. I have about 9 months cguarentee left though so I'm nervous about doing it.
Samsung really have been incredibly slipshod here to the point where I would avoid buying another Samsung phone.

I contacted Samsung again over the weekend, it went like this

Hi. I have had enough. After contacting you last week regarding the total
screw up after the 4.3 update and receiving your scripted and well used
reply, things are no better, if anything worse. I have lost money through
the incompetence of Samsung due to my phone, S3, being practically useless.
If you are unable to fix this in the next 3 days, are you prepared to offer
me a new phone as you have ruined the one I have now which I''m still having
to pay my contracted monthly payment.
Please do not send me your well worn pasted scripted reply which has been
sent to thousands of other poor people in the same position as me as it
will not be appreciated. If there is no positive reply to my post, then I
will consider further action ( I have taken legal advice ).
Looking forward to a positive and realistic reply.

Back came the reply
Dear Philip,

Thank you for contacting Samsung Customer Support.

At this time, we are working hard to find a resolution for the recent update, we understand it is a huge inconvenience to you as you use the device for work purposes.

As you are unable to wait for the update, we can certainly take your device into our service centre to have it repaired. I will be honest with you, while your device is in for repair, the software update, to resolve these issues may be released.

If you would like us to look at your device, please provide the below information :

1) Serial number (Found under battery)
2) IMEI number (Not required if a tablet) (Found under battery)
3) Your full postal address
4) Brief description of the issue.
5) Model Code

Unfortunately these are the only two options we have available at this time, we will be unable to send you a replacement device.

If there is anything else we can help with, please let us know.

Yes I had same issue (email and SMS also flashed) and fixed it. Settings > My Device >Accesibility> Flash Notification. I checked and unchecked it several times, leaving it unchecked of course, then rebooted. Voila! Hope it works for you as well.

I did the upgrade a few days ago, not knowing about all the problems. My phone seems ok, for the most part, all except the texting.

When texting, often times I cannot scroll, the keyboard (both Swype and Samsung) become unresponsive and it can take me 5 mins to type in one message.

I have not tried a factory reset yet. I am backing up my text messages first.

Anyone else having a problem with their texting?

I've had the update since Sunday. At first the problem was the download manager kept downloading pictures I already had.

I did a factory reset and it stopped.

Besides the battery drain and the lock screen lag, I have a Google chrome lag. In which when I open chrome, the screen is completely black. But I just touch the screen and its back to normal.

Anyone on the gt-i9300 (international s3) (the one with the broken update) considering rolling back using Odin but worried about losing their EFS/IMEI, as far as i know, EFS cant be backed up without rooting the phone so dont do that as it voids warranty.
Using Odin to flash older firmware doesnt void warranty though so if you DO lose EFS, just take it to the shop and let them fix it.

P.s. has anyone tried taking their phone back to the shop and asking/telling them to restore WORKING firmware on their phone?
