4.4.2 update

I just got the 4.4.2 update and my camera seems even worse than before. Takes a second to focus and skips now. Wasn't doing that before. I thought the main fixes were supposed to be with the camera?

How is going to take a picture if it doesn't take time to focus?Mine is only delayed when camera app is first opened. My dslr take a second.

4.4.1 was camera fixes. 4.4.2 is smaller bug fixes

Will the factory 4.4.2 install if your bootloader is unlocked and you have the Franco Kernal R19?

Yes, but it will wipe out all of your data unless you change the flashing script or do it manually. If course that requires waiting until Google posts the factory images.

okay, i'm kinda nervous. the last phone i had there was an update roll out soon after i got it. killed the functionality of the phone. seriously waited a long time to be rid of what became a burden. almost want to ignore the update because i'm "scared" that it will make my phone bad :(

The update seems to be fine, other than some people (myself included) have experienced weaker signal with the new radio firmware. Some however have shown better performance with it. So it may depend on the device. If your bootloader is unlocked, it's an easy fix if you get worse signal.

Woke up to 4.4.2 update this morning...

Weird how I heard a lot of people still waiting for or didn't get the 4.4.1 OTA so I flashed that one manually, but got 4.4.2 OTA really quickly. Wonder if still some folk waiting for 4.4.1... or if they will jump from 4.4.0 to 4.4.2...

i just side loaded couple of hours ago. two updates in a week. :P
with both these updates i am seeing little better signals for me.
at stock 4.4 i used to have best 93dbm, 10asu, worst 109dbm,4asu usually between 97dbm~101dbm
at 4.4.2 stock best 89dbm,12asu, worst 105dbm, 5asu usually between 91dbm~97dbm
data seems a little better too. steady 3G, occasional H, for the first time i hit 2 mbps down. i know its pathetic but i do not have LTE at my location.
at least my tethering still works.
only thing borked for me is that i can't take screenshots any more. :(

Got mime yesterday afternoon around 2 pm (California)

Yea nothing for me NYC here.
Color and size is white 32GB which I doubt means anything.

Anyway hows your camera and speaker now? Shutter is faster right, is image quality better? And is speaker better when like listening to a you tube video or making a call on speaker phone? Mine sounds fairly low and slightly muffled.

Comparing the speaker to my One X this one on the Nexus is louder with crisp. I messed with the camera a little bit and the shutter is quicker with the update. Still the camera isn't anything like an S4 or iPhone 5S.

Awesome news that they're releasing 4.4.2 and I still didn't get 4.4.1 on the Nexus 5. I must attend some business courses, or maybe some that teach you logic, so that I can understand the logic behind this move.

The Nexus 5 was supposed to be the very first one to get the updates, and I'm already behind. And don't tell me anything about Samsung/HTC cause I don't give a crap about those.

When the update is released to you, you will jump straight to 4.4.2.

Google rolls out update in batches over a week or 2 just like every other manufacturer/carrier

As explained by googler Dan Morrill:
Rollouts are conducted in phases. Typically they start at 1% of devices for around 24 - 48 hours; we watch the return rates and resulting device checkins and error reports (if any), and make sure nothing looks wrong before sending it to more. Then typically it goes to 25%, 50%, 100% over the course of a week or two.
What the percentages mean is that when your device checks in, it has a 1% chance (for example) of being offered the OTA. If it doesn't (randomly) get an offer, it will never get an offer until the next batch.
IOW, once your device checks in and gets turned down, that's it until the next batch. Mashing on the "check for updates" button just causes your device to check in again, and get automatically turned down again. Think about how that makes your device feel! WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE PHONES?!
That said, once the new batch does start, hitting that button does give you a new roll of the dice -- but once. Since devices usually only check in for system updates every 24 hours (I think? Certainly on a many-hours basis) this can get you your shot sooner than it would happen on its own.
So, mash away. :) Just be patient, and mashing on it more often than once or twice a day isn't going to gain you anything.
Edit: also, keep in mind that this isn't first-come/first-served. You're not racing other devices to get your slot in the current batch, or something.

If it makes you feel any better, most of us didn't get it either. However there are instructions out there to install it manually so that you don't have to wait and that's how many of us get the update so quickly.

I'll wait and see how it does...my other daily driver is an iPhone 5s so I'm not looking for the nexus to equal it in pic quality, but just do better then its doing in its current state. Sound quality hopefully will be fixed and that low muffled sound will be gone...
