4.4.3

Super easy, yeah, but super PITA when it goes through the optimizing apps ritual a second time. 172 apps? Is that a lot? :o

I've got 36 when I restore my "user installed apps" in titanium :o

It must take you guys forever to boot into ART

ART is buggy/experimental/not really all that great.

^ things I tell myself to feel better about not using ART since it takes ~35 minutes to boot

ART works well for me, and I don't much care that the first boot takes longer. After that it boots just as quickly as Dalvik and runs much better on my N4.

As I type my N4 says "71 of 117" on the "Android is upgrading..." 4.4.3 screen so I'm nearly there:-)

Edit: short time later it's up and running. Might be imagination but the first boot of 4.4.3 seemed much quicker than I remember following the previous update, but perhaps that's wishful thinking. Either way the update worked without snags... unlike the first KK update that turned my first N4 into a paperweight, replaced under warranty by Google.

I wandered off and left my phone to sort itself after starting the upgrade out last night. Didn't seem to take that long - downloading seemed to be the longest part of the process. But then I don't have a huge number of apps.

Which is possibly just as well: the one game I play on my phone (solitaire) is really not liking 4.4.3. The screen - and subsequently, the phone - keeps freezing and the game keeps crashing. Since I'm 100% vanilla, I'm guessing I will need to wait for an update to the game to fix the issue :(

Otherwise, I haven't noticed any difference at all - as you'd expect with a bug fix release.

Just realised that the dialer has changed - it actually looks quite radically different. Think I like it. It also appears to be more closely integrated with the contacts app which also seems to have changed.

I've been trying to manually install the factory image, but the phone wont connect to my PC :(

Tried everything - turned USB debug on and off, turned MTP on and off, turned PTP on and off. The phone just wont make a sound when it gets plugged into my PC. I've looked online and this seems to be a problem without an answer.

Guess I'll have to be patient and wait for an OTA............. :P

You've installed the Google drivers?

I've had this happen. It's a real PITA. Reboot the phone and reboot the PC. Then plug it back in with MTP mode enabled and PTP off.

If it still won't connect, use Airdroid to transfer and call it a day. I haven't figured out the exact problem, but sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. :dontknow:

Yes, I've had this happen too. What seems to happen is that after installing debug drivers if you turn off debug Windows sometimes "forgets" the plain MTP mode drivers; it sort of sees the device but ignores it.

Unfortunately this breaks even more when debug mode is next used, so that stops working too. I found I could fix it (in Win7) by forcibly removing all related Android drivers - the Wugs toolkit has a walk through which works perfectly if you follow it to the letter - then plug the N4 back in without debug switched on, which gets MTP back up again. If debug is still on it will not install the correct MTP drivers and you have to do the driver removal part again.

After that you can install other drivers and MTP should continue to work... for a while, anyway.

Thanks for the tips. I've tried wugs toolkit, but no luck with that method (including deleting any relevant drivers)

Are you sure the USB port (and/or cable) is working correctly? Have you tried plugging the same N4+cable into a different PC to see what happens?

It wouldn't be the first time I've chased driver problems only to find I had a dodgy USB connector.

Or you can use Linux, which has NEVER had a problem seeing the phone.

It's a kludge, but you can boot your PC with a LiveUSB and then mount your Windows partition to copy the file.

And sometimes trying a different usb port on your computer has worked as well. My Garmin does not like my usb hub but works great plugged directly into the computer.

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. I'm posting because there are some issues with my phone installing the 4.4.3 update. After I had downloaded the new update and started the install, it then went to the "Installing system update..." black screen with the green Android figure in the middle of it. It has been on this screen for half an hour already. I'm very concerned. Is this normal or not? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forums! :D

Can you tell us a little bit more about your device?

Mainly : Are you rooted? If so, have you changed Roms/kernels/ect?

Thanks for your reply.

No I'm not rooted nor have I changed anything of my Nexus 4 as I'm too dumb/lazy to do so haha!

Depending on the number of apps you have installed, it does take a while to update, but half an hour seems excessive.

Is your phone very hot to the touch?
