Are You Happy With Your Desire HD

I've had the HD desire since it's UK release (on Orange) and I have a Galaxy S as my work phone.

They are both superb phones, but the HD for me is better - Larger screen, better photos and flash, I really don't get super amoled screens, everything looks 'cartoony'.

On a note the Samsung battery life is about 70% better than the HD but I do use the HD for alot!

I ask people who moan about battery life Take a laptop, switch the wireless on, play a graphics intensive game for an hour or 2, send some emails, bit of facebook etc...I get about 3 hours from my Dell inspiron!! remember the Desire HD is a PHONE!!

The crap screen has stopped me from getting this.

Very annoyed with HTC about that and also the Q1 Q2 offerings.

Forcing me to look at LG and Samsung now grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Role on Xoom and my other upgrade in Dec!

I've had mine about 8 weeks - belter of a phone!

Pros

  • Android runs great
  • Lots of flexibility
  • Responsive
  • Very impressed with some of the Apps
  • Quick web browsing
  • Screen is an excellent size. Screen is not "crap" in my opinion.

My main gripes:

  • Being unable to take incoming calls when using the mobile web - I'll check it out to see if there is a settings issue or not.
  • Speaker volume is low
  • Camera can be a bit fuzzy when taking pictures but I haven't played with any settings so I can't really include this is a major issue yet.

Had it since the end of October, by and large I am happy with it. Took some used to getting to after having the sleekness of an iPhone but I've solved most issues that have cropped up

i've just hit the point where i've gone from being happy with it to starting to really dislike it (hardware is sick, bugs in the OS are terrible). Am seriously considering buying a new phone if a new update doesn't come out, have a heap of problems... i was one of the unfortunate people who got the new update which got pulled... so buggy :<

Have probs with:

obvious SMS problems (deleting, don't get notifications, aftermarket sms like handcent is buggy for me too)
GPS not connecting (or taking ages then dropping straight out)
USB Tethering not working anymore 1/2 the time
3G mobile network disabling itself randomly... <-- this ones killing me, need to go to standby screen to re enable
Reception has gotten worse, sometimes need to reset to get it to start getting reception again
Random resets when browsing the menu's (like semi resets, just half crashes)
Keeps losing my ringtone settings
Inbuilt widgets not working (sometimes i cannot disable my 3g unless i manually reset the phone)

i'm sure there are other things i havnt thought of

Love mine to bits, usual minor gripes with speaker etc. But no device is perfect and unless you have some manner of crippling fault any smartphone is a pretty awsome thing to own.

Also ANDROID please take the not so subtle hints half his forum has been giving you for several months now.....I.e. Piss off with your blatant trolling nonsense and Dick head attitude to just about everything you ever seem to post. No one listens to you anymore because you appear to sprout most of your words directly (and authoritatively) out of your backside yet seem incapable of paying any attention to the better informed and eloquent counters we frequently offer to your ego driven self important bullshit!

You are not the Autodiadact! You offer us opinion masquerading as fact and yet play the part of the holy shaman divining truth from the very universe and presenting it to us as self evident!

Thread being reopened after issuing many infractions and warnings. Might I take a few minutes to remind EVERYONE of the rules.

1) Debate the TOPIC. Debating and attacking other users is not permitted (regardless of who started it and who is right/wrong).

2) Keep threads on topic. Natural progression is fine but if the topic is the best recipes for chicken noodle soup there is no need to discuss the bank robbery in the next town.

3) When users say something that upsets you, do NOT respond to them as it will only result in additional warnings/infractions being issued. Instead, click the

button and let us know what the problem is... let us handle it, that's what we are here for.

Feel free to send me a PM if there are any questions. I expect this thread to remain ON TOPIC.

@codral the half-reset is Sense restarting. No idea what causes it but I'm getting the same issues here (including random hard resets) and have sent the phone off to 3mobile to be fixed. Worth having a word with your network if it's really getting to you.

Bear in mind it's my first smartphone, so I can't compare it to any of it's competitors.

Having said that, in general I like this phone in with a couple of exceptions..

Battery life is terrible, until I realised that, as others have said, it's basically a micro laptop that also does the phone thing. Using Tasker (great app!) I now have 2 setups; one where all the Wifi, 3g, GPS, etc., network stuff is turned off and it just does the phone thing (this is what it's on most of the time), and one for doing emails, GPS, etc. I can switch between them at a touch of the screen. Battery life is now almost acceptable. ;)

Built in sound is weak - quiet and tinny. Surely decent volume through a decent loudspeaker wouldn't have been too hard to do? My ancient non-smart Nokia is far superior. Admittedly listening to music on a phone I'm gonna be using headphones anyway, but still for checking out YouTube vids nice and audible sound would have been good to have.

Camera is ok for happy snaps, after all it's a phone not a camera. Video is ok, IMO, for casual use.

oh true? didn't realise i even had it on, never really used it or anything, will disable it, cheers

ah, I meant HTC Sense as in the Sense overlay that sits on top of Android - unless you root the phone or run a different home screen you can't disable it.
