4G LTE vs. Dual-Core Processor

After reading the lame article I just read and posted in another thread that July 7th begins the new tiered pricing for VZW... We should all be running to 4G over that dual core, why??? Because it is here now and unlimited. I think VZW will reward the early adopters of 4G/LTE, everyone who drags their feet will get tiered with that smoking hot new phone...

Verizon tiered data plans coming July 7, starting at $30? (update) -- Engadget

New report shows that IF you are a current customer, when its time to upgrade, you can keep the unlimited.

Time will tell.

That's right. There are also other sources reporting it today. Existing Verizon smart-phone customers won't have to worry as they can keep unlimited data plan when renewing contract or upgrading phone.

Hence the point. People like me have no practical alternative, since At&t, Sprint and Tmo have far weaker coverage. If VZW keeps unlimited and pushes mid-level devices, they may just get away with it, since At&t is slowly sinking their ship with tiered data and losing customers to VZW- in spite of sweet devices. Sprint & Tmo are in trouble too, since the greatest device in the world does not bridge sucky coverage maps.

Sprint roams on Verizons towers and vice versa.

But only on 1xRTT (2G) for data which sucks. No big deal for Verizon subs because the 3G coverage is blanket to the point that you rarely roam on Sprint's network, but it's a huge difference for Sprint customers since their coverage pales in comparison. If all you care about is phone calls and text messages, it's a wash.

I got the Droid x2 for 2 reasons:

1.) I don't have LTE in my area.

And

2.) I like desserts.

What I mean by that is I'm always looking for the next version of Android and I'm hoping that the dual core can stay at least future proof for a little longer than a Droid Charge.

My $.02

I recently had to decide essentially between the droid 3 and the charge (my beauty of a phone droid incredible took a dump) and needless to say I chose the charge.
I originally leaned towards the dual processor, but I personally think that 4G is more future proof the the dual core phones currently available. I feel like they need more work, not to mention the obvious difference in our gorgeous super amoled+ vs the surprisingly shitty qHD. But I digress. The sheer speeds of 4G overshadow the speeds of dual core. Which, by the way, not many developers have implemented multi threading into the code. So dual core isn't really dual core, at least not yet.

I remember right when the dinc was released everyone thought they made a mistake and should of bought the evo, just remember that technology sucks and you'll never be truly satisfied.

I just read something the other day that stated by 2015 they only expect a mere 5% of customers to be on a "4g" coverage. I wonder why this is why a lot of dual core processor 3G phones are coming out.

I only say "4G" because no carrier had true "4G", the current "4G" offered by today's carriers is merely an advanced 3G. True 4G is capable of 100mbps +

I too have a droid charge, and jumped on the "4G" bandwagon... but I do love my 10mbps + downloads compared to 3G's 500-700kbps ;)

I just re-did my phone with Voodoo LagFix and a custom Gingerbread rom and it's turned into a really zippy awesome phone. I grabbed the Charge because unlimited data was going away so I had to act fast. Yeah it lagged when I first got it but it doesn't now. Now I have an awesome fast 4g phone with unlimited 4g data. It doesn't get better than this.

I can't see where a 3g dual core phone could even touch what I have. 3g is like being on dial-up internet. That's why I waited for 4g before I got my first smart phone.

Older chipset
Low ram

Unless you are used to a slower phone, the Charge is slower than the Incredible, Droid X and TB. This is due more to the slow a55 files system than anything else, but a dual core would have made it better. Catch is the Tegra 2 does not blend well with LTE, so there you go.

I have personally owned two of the phones mentioned. A really good friend has the TB, and we hear about his struggles every single day.

Your statement about the charge being a slower phone is 100% false. IMHO it does a much better job than the other 3G phones, especially in battery life.

Also, the charge is the lightest 4g phone out there, it's even lighter than that stupid feature phone, the iphone.

I agree. I have lagfix and the v6 supercharger and an oc'd kernel and this is the fastest phone I've owned. It puts my wonderful dinc to shame.
