Root 4g root

they explain that there is a slim chance of one losing 4g when rooting the phone, i recently rooted my evo and shortly after i was finished with what i did, unrooted it again. it is now stock as just bought. how do i know if i lost my 4g capabilities or not if my city doesnt even have 4g yet?

Install the terminal emulator from the market, then type "su" (without quotes), then enter. The prompt will change to #. Type grep RSA /dev/mtd/mtd0. If you still have wimax (4g) intact, the last two lines will look like this:

-----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
-----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----

If you get the other output, but don't get those two lines, you've lost your wimax RSA keys.

goto the market and download terminal emulator. open the emulator and type this exactly as is "grep RSA /dev/mtd/mtd0" (obviously no quotes). a bunch of stuff will spit out and the last lines should be:

-----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----
-----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----

if these are not present then something is wrong and you lost them for good. hopefully you have a nand backup.

That's unlikely to work as the OP has already unrooted. Typing this from my phone, so I can't help much atm, but be aware that that probably won't work.

would "grep RSA /dev/mtd/mtd0 not found" mean my 4g is gone? I've done so much flashing and etc I had a felling something might go wrong. I'm using Myn 4 at this time and I noticed the attenna will say 4g available sometimes but 4g wont gone on...I have a few other roms that worked prior w/4g that stored on card. I'm guess I'll be ok if I flash of those?

What was the exact error?

1) "Permission denied" means you forgot to type "su" first, or you don't have root (the problem the OP is going to have in addition to not being able to install busybox anymore)
2) "No such file or directory" means you typed the path wrong, or you're really in troubel
3) "grep: not found" means that it couldn't find the grep command. All that means is that there's a problem with busybox.

From the sound of it, it's #3. Is that about what you saw? Myn's should have busybox by default. What happens if you type "busybox" without quotes, then enter?
