Root 4g stuck turning on

FYI: Re-flashing the kernel didn't fix either the 4g or the force close problems I have at start-up. It was worth a shot, tho.

I am restoring via Clockwork and will install RLS5 tomorrow. Don't feel like tackling it now. I'm gonna flip back and forth between the Red Wings and LSU games and try to relax.

Yep....maybe flashing myn's will fix it. Good luck!!!

Yes, flashing myn's fixed it. My 4g turns on now. Whether or not it works, who knows. I don't have 4g around here.

This is interesting, tho. Maybe "the BOMB" can answer this.

Using Clockwork recovery, I was able to flash RLS5, but when I attempted to flash the 3.70 OTA update ROM in the following link, it received an error when I tried to install the .zip file, and aborted the install.

[ROM] RUU SuperSonic EvO 3.70.651.1 OTA - Stock - Sense - Deodexed & Odexed Version - xda-developers

Cool. Good to know it works now. Just for kicks, go ahead and run that wimax_mtd command again, and see if it runs now.

As far as that other ROM is concerned, which one did you flash Odexed or Deodexed? I assume you wiped data/cache/dalvik right? I would assume so if you got myn's working. Do you happen to remember the specific error? We might be able to determine what exactly happened if so. Congrats on getting it myn's flashed :).

Ran the wimax_mtd command. The result was kinda long. Lots of OK's and Passes then it does some math problems. What is the program that allows me to take screenshots?

Anywho, the 3.70 I ran was the Odexed. I wiped the data and cache twice. Went to load the 3.70 like I did myn's and the result is:

Installing: /sdcard/Supersonic_3.70.651.1-Odexed_signed_teshxx.zip
Finding update Package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted...

1) That sounds like what wimax_mtd should do, so that's good. Up at the top should be your mac address and wimax version. If you want to take a screenshot, you can use shootme.

2) That's not a very descriptive error, lol. By chance, are you using Clockwork 3.0.x.x?

Yes. I never could get Amon_RA to work.

Downgrade to CW 2.6. Myn's flashed because he updated his update script to work with it. Most mods/roms (including the above) have not been updated to work with it. You will have this problem with a lot of other things if you don't downgrade.

Will the two backups I made with the 3.0 work with the 2.6 Clockwork?

ROM manager says that says that my current and latest recovery is 2.6.0.1, but at the top of the screen it says Rom Manager v3.0.0.2 and that is also the version when I boot into recovery. Any idea how I get it downgraded?

Also, ROM manager has a 3.0.0.7 update out. Should I not update it?

Wait, so when you boot into recovery, it says you have version 3.0, but in ROM manager it says 2.6? In ROM manager, select the option to flash an alternate recovery (RA). Once that is done, select the option to flash CW 2.6, again. Reboot into recovery and see if it's right. ROM manager can report the wrong info sometimes.

As far as the ROM manager update goes, I don't use it, so I'm not sure what was updated. If you go to update it in the market, it should give you a changelog. If it's important, go for it.

EDIT: just looked on the main site for CW. Apparently it now has limited support for flashing ROMs from RM with recovery images other than CW. I guess that's part of the update. I'd still recommend doing things manually, anyway.

I did that and it stayed at 3.0 on both the ROM manager screen and recovery.

Also, get this. For the fun of it, I flashed the Amon_RA recovery then rebooted into recovery. It stayed on Clockwork 3.0 even though ROM manager says my current recovery is RA Recovery v2.1.1

I'm going to bed. I'll fool with it in the morning if you have any other suggestions.

Ok, uninstall, then reinstall Clockwork. That ought to do it. If it's still being a pita, normally I'd ask you to verify that you have s-off, but I know you do, so instead, do this:

1) Download this PC36IMG.zip:

http://db.tt/PEhJy41

2) Verify that it stays named PC36IMG.zip
3) Copy it to the root of your sdcard
4) Turn the phone off, then back on while holding the volume down button to get to hboot
5) Flash the file when promted

That will give you RA 2.2.1. It's not clockwork, but it works just fine. It won't work with ROM manager, though, but you will then be able to flash whatever you want.

OK, one last question on this subject (maybe) and I will leave you alone.

Now that my recovery is back to 2.6, when I make a backup, is it still backing up my WIMAX keys? I thought that was why 3.0 was released.

Now that my recovery is back to 2.6, when I make a backup, is it still backing up my WIMAX keys? I thought that was why 3.0 was released.

Here's a breakdown for you:

Clockwork:

2.5.0.1 - worked on older phones only. Did not backup wimax keys. Works with both amend and edify (can flash anything out there right now)

2.6.x.x - works on both older and newer phones. Backs up wimax keys. Works with both amend and edify

3.0.x.x - works on both older and newer phones. Backs up wimax keys. Works with amend only. All that means is that the only difference between 2.6 and 3.0 is that you'll need to switch to 3.0 eventually.

RA:

1.8 - worked on older phones only. Backed up wimax keys. Worked with both amend and edify

1.8 Patched - worked on both older and newer phones. Backed up wimax keys. Worked with both amend and edify

2.x.x - works on both older and newer phones. Backs up wimax keys. Works with both amend and edify. There are quite a few enhancements between 1.8 and 2.1/2.2, though.

Yeah whats crazy about 3.0 is it doesnt tell you WHY it isn't working lol.... it just aborts
