As far as I know it is impossible, different radios.

Think about it, can you use an old Nextel handset now that iDEN is dead? Can you use a Boost CDMA handset on T-Mobile's GSM network? Different radio means different radio.

Don't ever take what just one rep says, At face value. They will say whatever you want to hear to get the sale and to move you out of the store. Since I am a Boost Representative and I have to fix the issues of other stores, I can tell you that only 10% of us are truly informed. The rest make up information on the fly to please you with false words.

I make it my duty to learn about all the changes in Sprint that will affect us Boost Mobile customers/employees. I also keep up to date my knowledge on the handsets and plans. I am constantly learning about new scenarios and how to work around customer service to resolve issues. I wish others would want to learn as I do.
With WiMAX, it's done in 2015. With all WiMAX devices, they will become 3G devices at that time. There are two forms of LTE devices on Boost Mobile. The ones with built in radios and the other with the UICC (Kinda like a SIM card to pick up LTE). There is no way to interchange them.

I'm sorry for everyone who thinks the S2 can get LTE. On a positive note, the UICC phones like the F7 seem to get amazing speeds. I'd almost say faster than the S3! ^_^

And it's cheaper!

Thanks for the info.............:D:):o

3G fine for me any way to stop 4g from auto turn on? Keeps searching for 4g and drains batt. Turn it off in sys menu but comes back on automatically. I am rooted just need process to eliminate 4g search.

I was informed yesterday that my area (Huntsville, Al.) is about to get the rest of its 4g upgrade activated. My regional rep said it will be wimax first then LTE in the following weeks. I hope he is correct.

Why would they do that? WiMAX needs a completely different band than LTE. I know they are rolling out the LTE in many markets but WiMAX is pretty much dead. They've already pretty much discontinued all WiMAX devices and are now sending only LTE compatible ones.

Do you work for Boost Mobile? My regional representative rarely works with customers. Mostly she's there to escalate problems that customer service can't resolve. She technically works for Sprint, not Boost Mobile. She's our door to Sprint pretty much.

I spent some time doing research on WiMax (I had a slow day a while back) and there is no reason to believe it will be upgraded in any manner.

It is dated to be discontinued, would you put a new kitchen in a house slated for demolition?

Any resources wasted on WiMax would take away from LTE upgrades, it just wouldn't make sense.

Also, isn't most of Sprint's WiMax contracted from Clearwire?

It's not a recent transaction, Sprint has been the majority owner of Clear pretty much since day one, since the SoftBank deal they now own it outright.
OB

Recent or not, that is sterile conjecture. The simple truth is Sprint having ownership means they call the shots. As such, it is part of their network even if not named so.

I do work for Boost, I am just going by the information he provided me. I asked him about the wimax because of my S2 and was curious.

I don't get any 4g service where I live, but then my 3g is decent and close to 2Mbps (1.7 to 1.9). I figure I will get plenty of good service from my s2. By then maybe they'll have the s4 out to us...

I get maybe .5 Mbps during the day and 1-1.5 Mbps at 3am...So I will be glad if we get wimax...We had 2 towers cut on a few months ago so maybe just maybe for once what I am being told is true.

Well there are the old iDEN towers to be converted over. the iDEN towers had interference problems that would affect other equipment so you didn't find anything sharing tower space with them.
