Help 4g wimax end date

Well Nextel's customer base on iDEN was much bigger than Clearwire's WiMax so the customer loss would have been huge. The iDEN network was very popular with many businesses both large and small. ADT used iDEN as well as FEMA

You make some good points. I would consider the S2 to be a flagship phone for the Boost networm, wouldn't you? I hope that by the time WiMAX really does get shut off that either an LTE-concurrent modem has been developed for the Boost S2, or that I've upgraded to a better phone.

I didn't even get the phone for 4g. The only WiMax near me isn't even on their coverage map as it comes from the hospital it is at. I got the phone for its other specs of processor, memory, display, etc. 3g is plenty fast enough for what I do on the fly and handles TuinIn Radio fine. I use WiFi for real streaming speed (cable beats 4g)

The future money is in LTE and Sprint was late to the party.

Not only is Sprint acquiring Clearwire's frequencies but also their current local licensing; remember you have to have a place to 'hang' each antenna. Towers are 1 option but many antennas are along buildings and such.

IDEN was necessary for large contracts to businesses as well as consumers - Nextel 'beep-beeps' were WIDELY used. I will be surprised if WiMax makes it into 2014.

Remember that WiMax is not a necessity for phone usage, only a slight upgrade to 3G technology that each phone also resides.

remember in January??? whenever youd call boost itd say that they were expanding and that by may theyd have it done

There's no possible way to upgrade a WiMax enabled phone to LTE, completely different frequency requiring new hardware, transmitter/receiver, antenna, amps, etc. As of right now it's pretty much impossible to get an LTE enabled phone to even work across multiple carriers, there's separate models with different hardware because of the frequency fragmentation in the market.

The problem was that Sprint was early to the 4g party WiMax was the first out, and then the newer better LTE showed up. Sometimes being first is not the best.

Yeah the nextel beep-beep was a major business thing (ADT was using it for all their phones and only started getting away from it in 2008).

I do see WiMax making it to at least 2014. Sprint was still selling phones with 2 year contracts in december 2012, and although the phone does not need it to work it would still be grounds for customers to break contracts if they suddenly shut down WiMax in their area.

I just got my S2 a couple months ago after I did a ton of research and speaking to multiple boost reps. I was told that wimax is around until at least 2015. I'm in Portland where there is all wimax and no lte at all for boost.

I have the new one sv and It blows the s2 away even stock and is well worth the money for an s4 chipset and adreno 305 gpu best phone on the lineup as of now.

The phone has good specs I just felt it was bogged down too much by Sense. My fiancee has it, we got it for him at my store to replace his Evo.

I think of this was plain vanilla instead of Sense, this phone would be a boss.

None that I see. And check the speed on your cpu bud. I'm getting 100 less then you at a lower speed.so yes its blowing the s2 away. Remember you did flash that rom right? So therefore your s2 isn't stock.

Oh and here's my second run all stock non-rooted.

and remember im on ics not jb so that makes a big diff. On jb it would benchmark much higher. Project butter anyone?

Yes it is stock we have official JB now, and your clpck speed was all of 12Mhz down. 1,188 vs 1,200 so again no it isn't blowing the S2 away. I am not saying you have a bad phone as I think it is a nice phone (a friend has one), but to say your blowing something like the S2 away, you need to have speeds more like a Galaxy Note 2, LG Optimus G, or HTC one X.

Lol I own the s2 on boost and no it didn't get an official update to 4.1 your running one of the sprint update roms. I'm talking about the boost stock s2. Which benchmarks in the 8k region.

GC01 is Boost JB and the update is only available via kies due to size. Try it out.

I didn't even know boost had pushed a 4.1 update. Sorry didn't even know. We'll stock ics it beats s2 ics. Lol

The ICS on the S2 was a patch work job. The thing had two launchers like they crammed the TW launcher in as a last moment thing.

Anyone know the number for a boost rep? My voicemail quit working I just get a busy signal on my end

A friend of mine got hold of a human through the standard customer service phone number. He said he went to the place in the automated system that's something like "I want to do something else" and then pressed 0 for the operator. That's what he said at least. He definitely talked to a human (I overheard) but I haven't needed to verify that trick yet.
