I have to disagree. Many applications that come pre-installed and cannot be removed (without rooting) also start automatically every time the phone is booted. Those apps use memory and cpu cycles, and in my experience reduce performance.
Just because they start, doesn't mean they are using any significant resources.
When I first got my phone, I temp rooted (all there was at the time) and froze the bloatware. I noticed a minimal improvement (if any) in battery life and performance. I am now unrooted and don't feel I am losing any performance.
How are we to assess the resource usage of apps that start automatically and run in the background? How did you determine that the usage wasn't "significant"? .
