5.10.605.9 Update

The only reason to remove bloatware is to unclutter your app drawer. It doesn't slow your phone.

I have to disagree. Many applications that come pre-installed and cannot be removed (without rooting) also start automatically every time the phone is booted. Those apps use memory and cpu cycles, and in my experience reduce performance.

I use Menu> Settings> About Phone> Battery> Battery Use to see what's using my battery. I figure if it's not using battery it's not slowing my phone down. The bloatware never shows up there.

Just because they start, doesn't mean they are using any significant resources.

When I first got my phone, I temp rooted (all there was at the time) and froze the bloatware. I noticed a minimal improvement (if any) in battery life and performance. I am now unrooted and don't feel I am losing any performance.

How are we to assess the resource usage of apps that start automatically and run in the background? How did you determine that the usage wasn't "significant"? I use Go Launcher EX and I notice the UI lags when all the default processes are allowed to run, gradually becoming worse as the time increases since the last boot. If I use a task killer (or Fast Reboot) those unnecessary apps are stopped, more memory becomes available and I immediately notice that the lag goes away. Some of the processes respawn but not all - maybe 30% The phone remains more responsive. I don't know if battery usage is affected one way or the other, but that's not a concern. I'm only interested in minimizing lag. This is anecdotal, but in my experience it is consistent on this particular phone.

Updated and now when I turn on the phone it goes to random screen display with an X in the lower left hand corner, which when pressed takes me to my regular screen.

Any idea where this is coming from and how do I get rid of it?

Thanks:o:o:o

OK, found out the problem, I have a docking station and it shows a docking station screen display which you have to turn off.

I use system panel, monitoring enabled setting. It shows me the cpu time of these apps.
I have all of that kind of stuff, like backup assistant, etc., not setup/i don't use it.
They start but show 0 secs. Cpu time...

I really don't use it to end tasks, mostly for the other monitoring features and the installer.
