6.0 Marshmallow

initial impressions...
video not as good as 4.3 (which is what I had previously reverted to to get good video performance).
netflix does not work.
unable to root via NRT
 
Interesting, I relocked my bootloader, and now netflix works.

no it doesn't. and its not my home internet either, netflix video freezes while audio continues even on my work wifi...

No netflix? It works on 5.1.1. I was thinking about updating today, maybe I'll wait.

I'd also leave the boot loader unlocked. If something bad happens sometimes you can't unlock it to flash the stock image, and if you want to turn a factory image into an OTA for a rooted device by removing -w from the script the bootloader has to be unlocked because the point is not wiping data. Just a thought.

ADB + Fastboot is easier than NRT once you know how btw. It really really is.
 
Netflix isn't working for me. Video plays for about 5 seconds then freezes but sound continues. So far this is the only app not working for me on 6.0.
 
I just received a 2.2mb OTA update this evening. New build is MRA58U. :)

The new factory image is up as well but I took the OTA. I wasn't sure if it would work with the boot loader being unlocked but it did.

Netflix rolled out a marshmallow update on the 18th I believe. Some ppl had to uninstall and re install. But it should work. It's working fine here.

Thanks I had already tried the update but it didn't help. However uninstalling then reinstalling did the trick.

Mine keeps failing on the 2.2 meg update.
 
So I just wanted to report that so far my tablet has froze twice while browsing the web, then rebooted by itself. Once with Chrome and once with Firefox. I'm not sure why. I've also noticed that Chrome is really using a lot more battery than it used to. I'm giving Chrome Beta a try now but I never had this happen with lollipop or KitKat.
 
Only problem I've had so far is that the device loses WiFi. Sometimes it come back after a while, else I have to reboot. Apart from that all seems fine.

6.0.1, no issues to speak of here. It's a couple yrs old, and still the best bang for your buck. Either go for it or spend a ton of money on something else. If you want a solid 7 inch tablet, this is it.
Getting a nexus means you don't need to worry about bugs. So many mods, roms, kernels and everything else, you can adjust anything.

The issue I reported above about occasional freezing and rebooting hasn't occurred with 6.0.1. It's been rock solid. I get between 8 to 10 hours of screen time which is back to what I got with Kitkat and several days of standby time with wifi left on. If you can get it for a good price the Nexus 7 2013 is still a great tablet!

I got a Nexus 7 2013 for Christmas, which has replaced my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0.

The GTab has been great, but it's no longer getting updates and runs a bit slow at times. The N7 is a beast, it runs smooth and fast.

I found out that the 2013 Nexus 7 is still listed on the Asus website even though it's been around for a few years. I'm glad to see the N7 getting updates to Marshmallow. I also think the specs are quite respectable even given today's standards.

The reason I'm considering it is because I like 7 inch tablets and 7 inch tablets are rare these days. A 7 inch tablet is about the size of a book and is just right for me. I have an original Kindle Fire HD (7 inches) which I installed CyanogenMod on and it is just the right size for me. It's just not as smooth as I'd like (never was, not even when it was running the Amazon OS), but that is largely due to the weaker processor in the Fire.
 
after a bunch of video issues, rotation issues, touch screen issues, I have reverted to 4.3. Damn if video doesn't work better, no more touch issues, no more rotation issues. Doesn't have system level chrome casting, that is the only negative I see...

Might be missing a security update or 2 (or 70) as well. Lol. But that's the beauty of Android, choice! Enjoy what you love, the way you want.
