Help 64GB cards

I suggest the cheaper one. The more expensive one is rated UHS-I, which supports a theoretical peak transfer rate of 50MBps (if the clock speed is 100MHz). However, as the GS2 isn't a UHS host device I wouldn't advise risking it. The SD Association warns against using UHS cards in non-UHS devices, so there's obviously some element of risk.

FWIW, I've been using the UHS-I SanDisk 64GB in my SGS2 since September without issue.

The SD Association are probably erring on the side of caution. Good advice, but in this case, Sandisk are saying its compatible with all MicroSDHC devices, so I don't think there's anything to worry about as they wouldn't make such a claim without thorough testing. Imagine the lawsuits :p

Hi,
Thanks for the info. Btw wat is the difference between the normal micro sd card and these ultra micro stuff. Mite be Better speeds and stability rite. Do these new ones also have different class ratings? Like class 10 has better read write speeds. Are these better than a class 10. Thank you.

The UHS-1 cards are class 10 as the sd specification doesn't define a higher class, but the Sandisk ones referred to earlier in the thread can read and write at about 30MBps.

UHS-1 can support up to 100MBps but I haven't seen any MicroSD cards that support this yet.

UHS stands for "ultra high speed"

Class 10 cards read and write at a minimum of 10MBps but can go higher if they want. UHS cards are almost guaranteed to be faster.

Thanks matttye,
The two cards mentioned below, one is mobile ultra and the other is ultra(with a 1 inside a circle written below the 64gb). Wat is the difference between the two of them. The price seems to be pretty much the same .
As said below, both works fine with the S2 rite .
So does that mean these new ultra cards are replacing the old normal micro SD cards with the class 1-10 rating. Thank you.

This one is a class 6 (it says so in the product description).

This one is UHS-1 (and cheaper, even though it's much better).

Yes saw in the pic description that its shown class 6 with the mobile ultra. Plz cud u share some info abt this. Coz I am a bit confused now.
1. This mobile ultra means its like the normal micro SDHC type, since it shows a class ? But it says SDXC instead of SDHC . SDXC is newer version of SDHC ? It looks diff also with slight red coloured.
2. The ULTRA card. How to distinguish tht its UHC. Its not mentioned in the Card tht its UHC 1. There is ONE drawn inside an incomplete square below the 64GB. Does tht indicate its UHC 1?
3. Also, how come the UHC Card is bit cheaper than a class 6 Card.

Sorry for asking too many q

Ultra is just sandisks way of branding fast cards. The ultra branded cards are faster and more expensive than their non-ultra counterparts. Ultra is not the same as UHS-1.

You can tell a card is UHS-1 because of the "1" inside the little U on the card (the incomplete square you referred to is the letter U).

I suspect it's cheaper because Amazon are doing some kind of deal on it, a 64GB UHS-1 card for less than

Thank you for the info.
How much would a 64GB UHS-1 normally cost?
So the other Card is the normal SDXC type class 6, which would obviously be slower and cheaper than the UHC one rite.

Yeah that's right.

The recommended retail price (RRP) for the one on Amazon is

I've got a 64Gb SDXC card for mine SGS2 and TBQH I find it exceptionally slow, especially if I want to update everything on the card.

It takes over an hour to transfer 20Gb of data across.:boring:

I bought sandisk SDXC 64GB, initially it worked on window 7/32 PC. After I put into SGS2 and it shown blank card. Took out put into PC and it need to format, and windows failed to format it. My new card spoiled? How you can made it worked in your phone?

Try using the adaptor and then install this software and see what happens.https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/

Usually if I have any problems with either an SDHC or SDXC card I just format the card in the PC using either Win 7 or the SD formatter then get the phone to reformat it again & everything works.

I've also found this update for Win 7:

32-bit

64-bit
Thank, installed the formatter_3, run it and it prompted me it was write protected, pushed the small slider to other side, it still prompted me write protect. I changed to another adapter with the same results.

Downloaded from windows download centre for the 32 bits, it prompted me the update is not applicable to your computer. try the 64 bit also the same happen. My card initially can read/write from my PC, after I removed from my phone and it was no accessible any more. :o

It was weired, formatter_3 and windows format only prompted me 30.6gb in NTSF and exFAT but failed to format.

The only thing I can suggest is to visit Sandisk Knowledge Base

I try to get a replacement tomorrow. Can someone recommend which rom and kernel to be used. Meantime I was on xwlpg wananlite stock rom, jkay deluxe theme v14 with siyah 3.3.1 kernel. I read somewhere the phone will format the card once put in the phone, it then can be used. Worry that I put in the new card and ended the card became faulty again. Please advice. Thank!

It's very unlikely that formatting the card will have damaged it.

I think you may just have a duff card, keep trying different things you may find that one will unexpectedly work.

I agree that's it's highly likely, if it's only identified as having 30.6GB capacity when it's supposedly a 64GB card. I suggest returning it as faulty asap.

Got a replcement and first put into my phone. Not working. PC also can't format it as the previous card. So I put back into phone, I drop down the status bar and touched on the SD card icon and it prompted me wrong format. Fellow the instruction given by the phone to format it. Erasing.....Viola I have 59.36GB now. No regret to have my SGS2. Thank for helping also I learn something new from you guys here.
Conclusion: need to used the phone to format the card and was easy and safe. Cheer!

Please see above. Any how thank a lot.

Someone who has knowledge on this topic. Please advise.
In SanDisk micro SDxc cards, are there simple SDxc ones as well as UHS class ones?
The pics shown in Amazon are not very clear. The main pic shows ultra micro with 1 denoted inside a semi circle, where the additional pics shows just ultra without the 1 denoted.
Thank you.
