80's Music

i don't know. it's hard to say.....i can see people singing "Poker Face" in 50 years. it's a catchy tune....LOL
plus she was amazing in a "A Star is Born".

i think she will make the rock n roll hall of fame in 50 years time.....for sure.

now the Beatles are on a whole different level. you just do not see talent like that. it's hard to compare anybody else to those guys. there is only a select few who are on their level.....i do get what you are saying, though

but this thread is about the 80's and it's music. for me they had the most impact into my life. during high school my favorite movies were the John Hughes movies and their soundtracks. It was at this time that I discovered punk, post punk (goth music), new wave, reggae, ska, and even some pop.

i just saw some youtube video that mentioned Africa by Toto and man did i love that song:

Part of the time now, I do listen to the eighties station on Sirius XM, whenever I need a cool down time, away from Octane, where I discovered such underground hits of Oniga Boinga, Blondie, Joan Jett & Heartbreakers.
Such strange times since I was still a kid whenever the song hit the radio, I was always discovering more and more. :)

i got to see Oingo Boingo at the Hollywood Palladium back in the early 90's. it was one of the first concerts i ever went to. i think it was one of the last concerts they ever did.

Awesome man, I got to see Plain White T's with my friends' band called Missing the Point in early 2000s :)
 
my only claim to fame was the Atari's in the early 2000's. i was going to UCSB at the time and my roomate was a promoter for several bands. i got to see them play a few times at the local bars. we would hang out after the gig at the bars there. they even came to our house a few times.

i guess this is related to the op, so here is their only claim to fame:
 
The '60s and '70 had the best tunes. The '80s was alright. It's downhill from there, at an extremely fast rate. The '90s had a few bright spots. After that, major suckage! It's pretty much all garbage now. At least in the mainstream window.

I listen to almost everything. My collection ranges from Al Di Meola to ZZ Top. From Sinatra to Slayer.
I like, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Funk, some Disco, Folk, Instrumental, Classical, African Tribal, even some Dubstep.
I am all over the map when it comes to music, I love it! I can not see any reason why anyone would confine themselves to just one genre. I feel most modern music is made for the simple fact that it makes money. There is no art to it anymore. Very few artists pour themselves into their work anymore.

Oh...I respectfully disagree! :)

As a Baby Boomer, I got to live through the most amazing music era ever. I definitely don't think previous music was better.

Now that's not to say that older music isn't good, even great. There's a ton of music from before [and after] the '60s that I love, and listen to, and recognize as awesome. It spans all genres, from classical to folk, jazz to swing, heavy metal to new age.

But the music of my youth, in the '60s and '70s, will always be the best to me. Growing up didn't change that view.

Oh I know what feels like, in my youth of music, country to like different types of different areas, yeah I do get more absorbed by whatever the music is playing even t.v. scores too, hose are the real under rated hosts.
