905 update

One thing to look forward to (maybe) is 4G seems much faster and not one data drop since I went to the ICS leak. Of course they may have been working on the tower around here to, hard to tell.
As Bionic and Razr have much in common, I would think the Bionic version is pretty much done and just waiting for Verizon saying they can push it out.

Everyone insists on applying logic and common sense to come up with an estimate of when ICS is going to be release on the Bionic. It is not logical and eludes common sense. It might come down to something dumb like one specific piece of Bloatware that marketing decided must be on the Bionic or Razr and not on the other and it hasn't been checked out under ICS. The net result is that one gets released and the other doesn't.

It will happen when it happens.

I had .905 pushed to my Bionic about 3 weeks ago. Since then, I have noticed the following issues:
  1. 4g seems to drop more often
  2. I have an MLB at Bat 12 subscription and the connection to the audio (radio) feed fails for any game that I want to listen to. Not just the home team feed, but also the oponent's feed. I did not have this issue with 902.
  3. The phone will not recognize the car dock and go into the 'car' mode. A power down/restart did not resolve the problem. Again, I did not have this issue before the 905 update.
Has anyone else had these same problems besides the 4G data issues?
UPDATE (6/29/12): Issue 2 above was resolved by re-installing At Bat 12 from MLB.

I'm on 904 and never have data either. As verizon says "It's the network". I'm usually on wifi so I don't care (so much). LOL

I'm in a 3G-only area. I don't see the data drops.

Here's what I've been wondering after reading all the messages ... are 5.9.904 and 5.9.905 dropping data more frequently when you are using data or is it that the indicators showing the availability of data are off more frequently?

Another way of putting it ... maybe the data availability has not changed but the software controlling the indicators has. Perhaps the data availability is the same as it was before 5.9.904 but you never noticed it because you weren't actively using data at the time.

Often what is seen is the indicator disappearing over and over and then a white 4G with signal bars, indicating data service is available though it isn't. Even when the indicator is blue (connected to google services) there is often no data connectivity as the indicator does not instantly refresh. Those people in 4G areas will see the biggest issues compared to people on 3G because when the 4G serivce isn't working right, EHPRD services to hand off to 3G don't seem to either. 3G EVDO phones work fine because the 3G network is reliable. 4G phones running on 3G will have less issues because they rarely need EHPRD services, is my guess.

Yes ... what I was focusing on was the assertion that there were more data drops after 5.9.905. I recall even in 3G prior to 5.9.905 where here was a blue 3G and blue bars. Sometimes when I attempted to use data it failed and the indicators changed.

So my question is ... perhaps the only thing that changed in 5.9.904 and 5.9.905 was the management of the indicators and the stability/instability of the connection is the same as it always was?

I do not know what a MD5 is but I have a filethat I used to manually update from 902 to 905 and I tried to attach it but I got some sort of security token error. If you know how to get around it and the file is what you want let me know.

Thanks...I just downloaded it from a couple locations but just wanted to verify the files with the MD5 sum, if I could find it.

Does anyone still have the MD5 for the manual update to 5.9.905 from 5.9.902?

Thanks

Here is the MD5 sum for the 5.9.905 I have.

d0fa30f304356f0b2977567d4d758045

That is the MD5 for both the .905 leak as well as the final .905 OTA.

So, if you get .905, regardless of leak or OTA, you're getting the same file.

The most irritating thing about these little data drops is the fact they showcase what to me is a huge flaw in the Android phones in the fact every time the data reconnects it checks my email even though every setting there is is set to manual. In an ironic way, that "droooiidddd" tone let's me know when a data drop has occured.

By the way, does the same thing happen with a good third-party mail client like K9 Mail? (Actually I believe that we have had this discussion before; it seems familiar...)

If I remember correctly, yes. Although I wasn't to impressed with K9. I'm also not a big fan of just downloading app after app. I have the few apps I need, a few "fun" apps like Tunein Radio and such but that's all.

Ok, I can confirm after a few days using K9 that it will respect your setting for how often to connect to mail. You can turn off push for a folder or all folders (settings->account settings->fetching mail) and then set a polling frequency and that frequency is adhered to even if you lose a data connection. The other thing that I like is that, unlike the stock mail client, if I turn off data sync for a while, K9 does not check for mail, while the stock mail client does anyway. (GMail also respects the data sync setting.)

The status bar icon in rather unattractive but the app gets the job done.

Okay, so i got the 905 with everyone. Had terrible data drops. The signal would basically strobe...

So I tried this last night and it has not dropped the 4g signal since (12 hours, vs. the normal 12 seconds). I did have to disable my wifi for this to work. I had an auto wifi enabler that I just set to always off.

I'm glad this is software rather than hardware. I will sleep better tonight.

To make sure we are clear here the steps are

1.With the phone on, put it into airplane mode

2.Power phone down

3.Power up, let the apps have a chance to start up first. Give it atleast a minute after the clock screen comes up.

4.The phone will have remained in airplane mode, turn off airplane mode.

The data connection will start shortly, this is when the glitch happens with the signal bars, btw its a bigger set of the same four bars, it shrinks and data boots up. You will have 100% connection tme in a well covered area.

I have discovered also that putting the phone back into airplane mde and out, as well as utilizing the wifi radio, or a powerdown out of airplane mode. Will put the phone back into submission. So refrain from altering the network connection after the airplane glitch.

I have contacted moto over the phone about this. They say "you are a genius sir" "keep dreaming up ideas and fixes." Hopefullybetween the phonecall and these posts i can get some serious crackdown on this.

So, after several months of 4G issues, I finally got off my butt and found this thread. I first noticed the connectivity issues a few weeks before the last OTA update. I thought the update would fix the problem, but it didn't. I didn't have the problem with 3G, but I'm paying for 4G, so it should work. I went to a verizon store to request a new SIM card (tech support told me to do that). The store told me it wouldn't help, but did it anyways. They were right. When I asked about the 4G issues, the store said that it was probably a network thing and the salesguy said his razor had the same issues. So, I just dealt with the issue, using my mifi or wifi when I needed to.

When I found this thread, I did what Stealthpanda said and it has worked. I did notice that by switching the wifi on and off brings back the issue. My problem now is when I power down and turn back on, the phone screen will not stay on. I will start to put in my password and it turns off. This will happen for a while. I do not know how long that lasts, because when I connect to the moto lapdock it will stay on. Anyone have any issues like that?
