A complete noob and the Hero ROM update

Many thanks. Accepted Ser No and downloaded update. Now need the b...s to install. Off to the pub so will do it tomorrow.

Install is easy, it runs off the PC, re-entered all the info, and connected to the web, android market, search was Ok, found the progs, starting download and all three just hung there, after three calls to Orange I asked them to take off the parental lock,[I think they call it faceguard], and after that they downloaded OK.

P.S. I'm not convinced it's any faster, but only upgraded yesterday, it includes a radio upgrade, but I'm still on one bar most places.
 
I'm interested in the radio side of things.

It's the only thing that would get me to upgrade over the custom rom I have now.
 
Done the orange upgrade. It means what it says when warning that all data would be lost!!!! Be prepared to do a bare phone setup.
However...... it does speed things up. I was waiting up to 15 mins for google maps to catch up. Almost immediate now. Rest of apps seem to tick along.
PS Does anyone know how to restore contacts from phone to sim?

Am Orange Uk

I too have got the latest rom for orange from the htc website -ROM Upgrade for HTC Hero (Orange)_2.73.61.5.

Did anyone's Hero have Java before or after the rom install? i keep seeing video's of the hero, and all of them seem to have java.

I'm curious as to why mine has not and does not even with the latest official rom update.

also, with the new rom, i cannot see a radio function, let alone an upgrade!!

when i store my contacts in my phone i use the google option as i have a gmail account.

so i had my contacts in all their entirity (number and email) as soon as i syncd when goin back through the setting up your phone process.
 
java must be there cos I can run java dependant apps like games etc. There was definitely a radio upgrade cos I saw it flash thru on the rom upgrade. Also it seems to pick up sats quicker.
yes, I use outlook to back up calendar and contacts so those synced back ok. It was the rest of everything. Apps, internet settings, all msgs, etc
 
hi this is my first post as i will be getting my hands on a HERO next week. Was just reading through this forum on how to best use my new found hero. Hve a question wondering any of you can help:

Is the MoDaCo ROM or any custom ROM dependent on the carrier? i am residing in Singapore and my carrier is a local one. This question arose as i noticed many users here are Orange and you spoke about better reception.

i keep getting signature error 132 when installing the update, am i doing it wrong?

Saying i have got the wrong one, but i downloaded the link to the orange one :s


Edit, re-downloaded it and im hopeing its worked, seems to have
