Before I got my Evo I had the BB Storm and one of the cool features was you could have custom ringtone for calls and a different custom tone for texts for each contact! Basically one contact would have different tone for texts then another contact.

I don't know if dev. could get this in a rom but I think it would be a great feature.

You can do custom ringtones per caller but I don't know about text. Maybe an app like Handcent would do this?

Handcent doesn't have this i just looked. I kinda miss this feature. It was great way to tell who is texting you and if you want to read it or not.:D

I dunno I still use the stock app and dgAlert so I can freaking get text notifications during phone calls. I used Handcent but frankly it got annoying and overdone.

Handcent can do this. I have mine set up to do it. Just go to the person you want to set up, go to the notification settings and pick your sound.

Interesting cause all I can do is set a general tone. You can set a different tone for different contacts? Can you go into more detail on how you've done this?
 
Just open up handcent. Go to your contacts that you have been texting already, pick one, press the button on the top right, then noti settings, then noti sound, and then pick your tone by going to system ringtone or music. I have many contacts with different tones.

Nice! I guess I didn't really look for it that way. It would be better if this was a standard feature though.
 
I think if you go in the stock people app you can set individual ringtones and notification sounds. I think....
 
When I was stock, I used mp3 trimmer to make ringtones, and it had an option for notifications.... U can get it on the market FREE :-)
