Root a few questions before i root

I have rooted a hero before so I'm not to afraid to do it to my evo. I just had a couple questions before I do.
First I think I'm going to use the mik3d rom. Do I need to change the kernel with this rom? If so, what do you recommend?
Second: from what I understand I can do wireless tether with it. This will not go against my Sprint account will it?
Third: do I need titanium backup to freeze bloatware with this rom? Or does this Rom already remove that crap? Is titanium worth getting at all in this case?
Thanks for the info. Looking forward to dumping this crap Sprint/htc gave us a few months back for something that works.

1. ROMs supply their own kernels, so there's no need to change the kernel unless you want to. See this thread for a nice list of ROMs and kernels.

2. Carriers are cracking down on unauthorized tethering, though I don't think Sprint has done this yet. I would recommend talking to Sprint about this so there are no surprises later.

3. Titanium Backup is, in many people's opinions, a vital tool for root users. It can help you remove bloat, make backups and much more.. I highly recommend this app eve if you're not worried about bloatware.

Okay, good choice with the 3d beta. That kernel should be fine, but there is (I believe) the golden monkey kernel to look into.

Tether away, it should have the sprint unlocked hotspot app, which is nice, and the market wifi tether is good too.

TB is nice for other things too, like switching roms (which you'll probably do a lot).

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will start collecting what I need to get going on this. My main concern with the kernels is improving battery life. I know sense likes to eat the battery, but hopefully the kernel that comes with mik3d with be good.

Just o so done with the issues with this factory release. Time to make the evo a evo again.

If battery life is your concern, here's what I did. Installed SetCPU and setup a Screen Off profile: Min 128 , Max 245. That tells the system to scale down the CPU when the phone is asleep. The phone will be a little sluggish, but it's asleep so it doesn't need to be snappy. Then the phone wakes it will return to its normal scaling. This really helped my battery life.

Also, to tag along with Ardchoille's setcpu tips, I got some great batter advice a few months ago. Turn things off when you're not using them. Like mobile data (text and voice still come it) and wifi, gps , bluetooth, turning these off started saving my batter life in the spring.

Sprint hasn't started cracking down like AT&T and Verizon, but dimes to dollars if you ask them they'll tell you no way, no how, now please give us $30 a month.

My advice would be to just keep an eye on your data usage, and don't use your tether for torrents and the like. In other words, don't pop up red flags for Sprint and you should be good.

I will mostly be using the hotspot feature for my WiFi xoom. I pay for home internet but when out and about, it would be nice for getting online with the xoom.
I'm thinking of going the mik3d Rom, golden monkey 1.1 kernel and setcpu. Any reason to run the v6 supercharger script? I mean will it really do anything for me with the setup I mentioned?

i run in and i see a slight difference in responsiveness on my phone. it does not hurt to try it. there is an option in the script to disable it. try it out.
