Root A few questions

I semi bricked my phone and had to install gingerbread 2.3 RUU to get my phone to work.

I used revolutionary to s-off, then android flasher to flash amon ra, and now im running gingervillian.

Now that i am gingerbread RUU, does this mean i always have to use gingerbread roms or can i still use 2.2 based roms etc?

Also my mate has the exact same phone he got it at the same time as me, he has android 2.2, could i use revolutionary to root it instead of unrevoked as im more familiar with this method of s-off and flashing a recovery?

Thanks

You can use 2.2 also if you want. Once you gain SOFF you can do most things

Revolutionary does not root. It gives soff and you can use it on all devices which have the 0.93.0001 or 1.02.0001 hboot.

i have hboot 6.93.1002??

i know it doesent root it, but once i flash recovery etc and flash a rom its essentially rooted isent it? i want to do my phone the same way for my mate because i remember what i did and dont want to complicate things lol

thanks

btw i want to flash a new rom just to play with it, ive done a nandroid backup but cant do a nandroid+ext it tells me to run something in ADB.

I dont mind if i have to download some apps again from the market aslong as the apps in the rom still get installed if i wanted to revert?

is a nandroid backup good, i.e. if the new rom doesent work is it as simple as going into recovery and selecting restore or is it not that simple?

a nandroid backup is an exact image of the device in its current state so yes they are very good. if something goes wrong its as if nothing happened.
if you are getting an error it is likely because you dont have an ext partition on your sdcard.
did you create one with gparted or any other method?
whats the exact error it gives you?
