I everyone I need a little more of help finding the right path.

I rooted my dx really just to have the wireless tether which I thought would be good enough. Then I decided to go ahead and update to 2.3.13 thats where thing went hay wire. I thought that I was following this thread http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/177208-help-plan-attack-root-froyo-2-3-13-a.html correctly however, my phone got stuck on the motorola screen with some error message and after 2 days of cussing just said eff it and bought a new dx. Now I am back to where I started rooted dx 2.1 I want to update but do not want to end up locked up again.

I am rooted

have rom manager
have bootstrapper

Next step is to download 2.2 correct?
Can you please supply me a link to 2.2?

Then I use bootstrap to install 2.2?

Then do the same steps with 2.3.13?

I hate to ask in such small steps but I really have no idea how I locked my phone last time

in rom manager under stock images is 2.3.9 which is what you need first. That is the best way to get to froyo right now imo. It will keep root.

Just make sure you do the top button on the bootstrap app first, then the top button on the ROM Manager app to flash the latest Clockwork recovery, before doing what OMJ said.

My phone is completely locked again now I have 2 droids that will not boot and give me the
"E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command" with no way to fix them worst $1000 I have every spent

Try booting into recovery by holding the home key while powering on the phone. Then wipe data/factory reset.
