So I got an update from HTC. It brought the Sprint Optimized which I immediately deactivated. Problem is it seems it carried other changes as well. Now when I search something it will only load Web instead of my app like for Google Play or Twitter. Contacted HTC and was told this is Android not my phone. So,how do I restart my device to using I.stalled apps to complete functions instead of the web. Examples: I search something and it is on YouTube. Before it would ask and I could choose a default action. Now only option is to either use the web or try to remember the video and start my app. Same for Google+,Google Play,Twitter,Facebook and others. Nothing in settings I can find. Clearing defaults does not help. Same happens from mail. If I click a link in email it goes to the web instead of openings my G+ app or any other app.

There was another thread with something like this......found it.....this may help you:)

Yeah I have already tried about every Browser on the Market. What I was wanting to know is is there a way to remove the update? Will it require root? How do I do it? I know very little about the dev side to Android.

hmmm...to remove the update? Not sure but I think it has to do with running an RUU (rom utility update) and I am not familiar enough with those to recommend one.
However, you can root and get rid of all the BS that you dont need and then with a custom rom you can do so much more.
Let us know if you want to root! Once you do, you will never want an unrooted phone again.
That being said, I dont know how else to undo the update....sorry...;)

the only issue with running a ruu (rom utility updater) is that it will only work in updating the phone. so if you are on the latest ota then a ruu will not work. rooting the phone might help as you can easily downgrade the software.

other then rooting the only option is to try and do a factory reset.

Did the factory reset and had Sprint Store try 4 different times to roll back the update but nothing worked. HTC said it has to do with Google.

Other than bricking I think it is called what are the dangers of rooting. Seriously not looking to do much to my phone except get it back where it was before the last update. Any word on a fix coming from Google?

bricking your phone is actually harder to do then you think. but rooting your evo will just show you how much a beast your evo actually is. you can possibly get better performance and battery life. you can try out the some of android new os like ICS (ice cream sandwich) and we even have a few JB (jelly bean) out now. you will never see the og evo officially get those. and there are ways that we can troubleshoot and fix things that an unrooted phone cannot do.

so it is really up to you. if you are interested then here is some readings for you:
start with this one: http://androidforums.com/faqs/443432-what-root-being-rooted-mean.html

and then this for terminology: http://androidforums.com/faqs/443075-root-terminology.html

once you have read those then this is the guide you will most likely need:

and if you have any more questions on root then please post them here:
