Seems some of these new phones are erasing some basic features. Is there a way when Im on a 3 way call I can hang up with one person without having to end all and call back?

NO... that is how CDMA works. Just like the new iphone 4 for Verizon, it's limited by the CDMA network. ON GSM networks you can have multiple calls and hang up with individual ones. not on CDMA.
What us GSM people actually miss is: a) clicking end/flash and the 3rd person connected is hung up on first without disconnecting caller 2, or b) being prompted to ask which call to end. The limitation also prevents you from conferencing incoming calls. You must call out to both parties to conference them. Ending the call will hang up on everyone and whoever is still holding will ring your phone automatically, if they don't already think you hung up on them and catch an attitude, lol.I used to have alltel, I am sure they are a cdma network on the older phones with physical buttons I could call and hang up 3way calling no problem. In fact many times if I forgot I was still on with one of the people I would hit end and couple seconds later the phone would ring I answer and find its the first call still if they didnt hang up.
I never had a GSM carrier, well technically that isnt quite true, att and alltel merged and from May 20 2011 til June 1 2011 I did have att. What us GSM people actually miss is: a) clicking end/flash and the 3rd person connected is hung up on first without disconnecting caller 2, or b) being prompted to ask which call to end. The CDMA way of doing 3 way is annoying but a limitation you learn to accept.
