I've noticed that lately there have been claims that easy root and the app that is still on the market will steal your data. Also it's been said that it was pulled from the market for trying to profit off of someone else's open source work/software. Dunno if the claims have any merit though.

that makes no sense, Cars are modified in a competely different way they then a phone is.

I end up having too many problems with phones to root my Droid till I am closer to upgrade. 5 Moto Qs and 6 Samsung Alias 2 later. Maybe rooting would spare me from any problems but 2.2 on Droid 1 is working out perfect right now.

No it didn't, dont see why you would compare a car to a phone. two competely different things. Like I said before Im not going to do anything to my phone that will void my warrenty and contract with verizon and motorola. So I am getting the droid 2.

Ok my mistake, you just don't understand analogies in general. I'll break it down for you.

I was comparing the car manufacturer to the cell phone manufacturer. The car as a whole to the phone. The two are easily modified by users who are so inclined. The engine and other core components to the hardware of the phone. Easily changed and replaced parts like air filters and spark plugs, to the base os.

It would be conceivable for a car manufacturer to modify their design on the production line so consumers could only use a specific brand of parts, and you'd have no say in the matter. Even if those parts don't work well, you're stuck.

Motorola are modifying their phones so you can't use a modified version of the os. Even though stock doesn't work as well.

The point of the analogy (or any analogy) was to say what motorola is doing is comparable to If your car company did this. It's a comparison for emphasis, and no it's not supposed to be exact or it would be pointless. If I said "man imagine if htc were doing what motorola is doing", it would offer no different perspective.

No kidding. My posts weren't about rooting the droid either. My posts were about why it would be better to hang on to the droid instead of "upgrading" to the X or D2. Because of the possibility of things like rooting and even more so, the ability to use a custom rom. It gives the droid greater flexibility and, in my opinion, longevity. I still use stock unrooted. But I know that if I want more speed or features, I have the option.... And I don't have to pay $100+ for it. Add the fact that unlike the 2 newest offerings, the droid isn't crapped up with moto blur, and I think it's a much better idea to keep the droid until real upgrades come out.

yeah i will agree with the motoblur, i dont do social networking so, that has no use to me. I just like how they updated everthing, keyboard, screen, processor. Its not like Im trowing my orginal droid away. I'll still hang on to it. Ill most likely sign a one year again( i dont like to be lock down more than I have to), So Im sure when the times comes around in a year or two, I can really upgrade to something even better. But I hope its just an really improved droid, cause I love all the features the droid has, right size, screen is not to big or to small. the keyboard is awsome. and android software keeps getting better. My only other option would be a windows phone cause I am a zune user also. but I dont think they can make a good enought phone to sway me away from an android phone.

The cheaper and more effective solution is to root your current Droid and wait for something that's a more significant upgrade. Overclock it to D2 speeds (it can handle them easily), use custom ROM's, have full WiFi tethering, themes and whatever else you want. Spending all of that money on another Droid with a little more memory isn't really a wise idea, but that's just my opinion.

I know you mentioned that you haven't/don't root, but in this case it's saving you money and giving you the same solutions.

OutlawFirebird, I have a D1 and I am rooted. I understand that you are not interested in rooting your droid. My question is, why not? If you are available for an upgrade and you have had your Droid for a year then you have no risk. If you brick your phone (highly unlikely) you can still upgrade no worries. I HIGHLY recommend trying to root and overclock your Droid. Main reason is, I do not think you will be happy with a Droid 2. The only upside to it is the faster stock processor. Same camera, same memory, same screen, CRAPPY MOTOBLUR. Sure, it has 2.2, but so does D1.

I have yet to see someone point out that one of the main reasons outlaw is looking to upgrade is for a hotspot.
Outlaw, are you aware that you can get the wireless hotspot by rooting the D1? And are you aware that the same feature on the D2 you will be paying for above and beyond the data package you already have? Thus rooting the D1 will once again as mentioned 47 times now, SAVE YOU MONEY.

The droid 2 has more than just a faster processor. Do your research first . look back and the thread and you will see what the droid 2 has. I have already said why I wont root my phone. In not saying anymore about it.

Ok say I root my droid, I get a wireless teathering not a hotspot. I probablly wont be able to connect more that one device to it at once. And then I will void my warrenty and contract with verizon. And If I use the tethering alot wile rooted, I risk getting a huge bill or my contract terminated.

Ok ok, how about this. after you get the droid2, lets just for fun root the D1 and see what you think. its no longer voiding a warranty with VZW nor Moto since it will be an inactive phone. then you can play around with the two and see if the D1 will in fact please you in the same ways that the D2 does. if not, oh well. ship it to me and I'll throw her in a drawer until needed, and if it does, you can return the D2 and keep the D1 on your line...... or of course, I'm still open to you shipping the D1 to me even once you see it outrun the D2.
Really though, its your phone man. Enjoy it whatever way you go.

im pretty sure you can connect more than 1 device to the droid at a time, making it a hotspot not just a wireless teather. Besides, as it was pointed out before, the main reason you don't want to root your phone is because your afraid your going to brick it. BUT IF YOUR ABLE TO GET A NEW PHONE IN THE ODD EVENT YOUR ARE THE 1 GUY WHO BRICKS HIS PHONE, why would you not even TRY to root knowing your have a backup plan...

Oh I will enjoy the droid 2, its not just about it being faster, there are other benfits of the droid 2. we could work something out about selling my orginal droid to you but I still got a month before I can get the droid 2.

Either nobody really cares that you are going to upgrade to the Droid 2.

Or, they express their opinion that the droid 2 really isn't that much of an upgrade from the droid 1, and suggest you should consider rooting and overclocking your droid 1 and save your $$$ for something worth upgrading to.

So basically, in a nutshell, you start a senseless thread, then when people start expressing some suggestions/opinions, you get irritated?

If you wait a few months, there may be a better Motorola out by Christmas (hopefully). It may be the mythical 2 Ghz processor model with a keyboard and world phone capabilities.

I'm not burning my last upgrade on my family plan for an X or D2 to see what the Samsung Fascinate and Droid Pro WE look like first.

Yes the Moto Droid Pro is coming and sooner then Christmas, rumors say it will be lunched in October..

But I will stay with my D1 for a while. lol i've only have had it for 4 months now.

I dont know how much clearer I can make it. I am not going through the droid 2 specs again. do you research before you post. I have said serveral times im not rooting, end of story get over it.
