The Optimus M isn't thick at all. It's actually very slick looking. I think my wife's Ascend is thicker.

I like having the little ball. It comes in handy on crowded pages when it's a pain to get your finger on the right line of text. I agree with everything else, except I don't think its junk. If it had everything on your list, it wouldn't cost $100.

Maybe it was just an optical delusion on the youtube video I saw. I haven't actually had one in my hands, so I'll take your word for it. Thanks for the feedback.
 
I was shocked at how good this phone runs when I flashed a new ROM on it. When I first got the phone, it was slow, unresponsive, and doesn't run many games very well. So, I started looking at new ROMS...Came across Icarus, a 2.1 based ROM, clean, simple, and fast. If you're familiar with flashing ROMS and backing up your phone... I highly recommend flashing a new ROM on this phone..I removed all the bloat-ware I could and still doesn't compare to having a nice, clean ROM installed on this phone. I would link to another forum, but I feel that's disrespectful to this community. If you're interested, I'm sure a simple google search for Ascend Icarus will suffice. I know there's also a working Froyo ROM, and another 2.1 ROM that works. I've yet to try the others, but they're out there.

Azenis, there is a thread under All things Root about the Icarius ROM. Which if we don't get a 2.2 soon I'm going to switch to it.

I've been using Icarus since the day it came out on the forums and have loved it. I did not switch to the 2.2 Chinese version ROM since the majority of the people here seemed to encounter problems. When the new 2.2 rom recently released, Froyo+, I read over and am now running that instead of Icarus. It is surprisingly a new phone. Apps load faster, home screen is responsive, and overall the phone is great. For anyone who is/running Icarus and would like a bit more performance, I would recommend this 2.2 rom. Just be sure to read installation problems before attempting! ;-)

Hi Azenis! Welcome to the Ascend Forum. Glad you are enjoying your Ascend and the custom roms. We have a thread here devoted to Flashing the Icarus Mod and many of our regs are already using Icarus and loving it.

I know they did for Icarus. Not sure for the Froyo one though...
 
One thing I know....I will always love this phone - The Ascend! I just wish that the title of this thread could be changed!!! It seems so unfair for someone to come along and create a thread that will be picked up by the googlebots and post one or two posts...create a title that others might actually believe...and then up and disappear.

Definitely not cool!!!

My mom always told me that if you don't have anything nice to say, Say nothing at all! Personally I love my Ascend. Just found out I can remove the call icon from the dock. All I've got to do is press the call button. Tadaa! Plus I adore that trackball. Especially when my webpages are very tiny. I can scroll and click with the trackball instead of trying to hope my finger gets the right spot! I also know this phone can be faster. People have shown me mods that make it zoom. I'm just waiting for an official update! (Being stubborn). ^^. Don't judge the Ascend. Judge the user. LOL.

Your mom was a very wise woman. I can tell she raised you right from the tone of your posts! :)

Have you tried any of the Launchers from the market, like LauncherPro or Go Launcher? You don't have to be rooted to use them.

I use Go Launcher for the most part. I've tried them all. Love LPP too but had to deal with a lot of force closes. ADW is another really good one with lots of custom themes. If you haven't already you should try them out.

I'll be happy to help you in any way I can.

I just use the default theme that comes with it. I've tried ADW (The free version) and this other one..Home something which was also free. I happen to like the smoothness in Go Launcher Ex. Less lag, Easier to customize for me.

I am rooted though (Used z4root), I have the CPU widget (Which was also free). I downloaded CacheMate (free) and I have a modified boot start up done with Boot Animations (free) and the .ogg file Joser had put on here (Droid sound). I also have AndRootFile (Free) for modifying root.

I use Skyfire for browser. Love it. I also use Handcent for messages, I love it's customization options. Now you've got me curious about what you've got on yours! Hope me getting all that free stuff doesn't make me look like a cheap-O. XD
