Accessories - what have you found?

I haven't tested the voltage coming out of the charger, but the HTC one is definitely putting out more power than my old car charger because my phone recognizes it as an AC power source instead of USB and charges much faster, and even charges while using navigation whereas on my old charger the battery would still drain while plugged in and using navigation. And my iPod charged fine with the old charger but doesn't recognize it's plugged into the HTC one. I ordered a micro usb to Apple dock connector adapter, I don't know if it'll fix the problem, but I figured it was worth a shot.

I wasn't referring to the micro USB connector which is meant to be used with a HTC phone but the axillary USB port. However it's good to know that the adapter puts out enough juice to keep the phone alive while doing GPS.

Morning all, newbie here, just switched from my Triumph to the Evo V 4g, got a sweet deal on a case added screen protector, I am getting used to the phone but I like the reception MUCH better than my Triumph, one of the MAIN reasons I got a different phone, like so many other people I live off of my cell and in my garden apt I was getting terrible signal.
At one point I had the Evo on the living room floor I was in the bedroom on blue tooth and had perfect reception, NEVER before able to do with Triumph, this alone makes it worth in (Virgin Mobile).
I do notice battery life is not very good, my military grade case I got a sweet deal on is cool, I MAY end up unloading it if I need more battery life. Like I said I am still new to smart phones as they are smarter than me, I will keep reading.
THANKS GUYS!

I wasn't referring to the micro usb connector either? It has 2 usb ports, one I plug the micro usb in for my phone and the other I plug an iPod connector cable, but while the micro usb cable works fine in both ports, the iPod doesn't think it's plugged in with the iPod cable in either port. Hence why I bought the micro usb to apple dock connector adapter so I could hopefully charge my iPod with a micro usb cable.

As for the HTC car mount, it's been talked about a little bit on this thread. It seems to be a nice little product, however I never use it because the phone won't fit into the cradle with a case on it. And seeing how I don't usually have it in the mount for very long at a time, I have just continued to use my generic phone car mount.

But when you connect the phone to the HTC mount, it *SHOULD* start up car mode. However, they neglected to load the car mode app onto the phone (along with the flashlight, mirror, fm radio, etc.). So I had to search for the apk of the app since Google Play says the phone isn't compatible with the app on the store. I started a thread about the missing apps.

Regarding the HTC car charger that comes with the car kit, there is no designation of a primary or auxiliary port. There are simply two USB ports, each one is rated 1 amp @ 5.1 volts. It came with a USB to micro-USB cable, just like the wall charger that came with the phone.

Hope that helps clear things up!

I didn't mean to put in TPU S, my mistake; though to me TPU S seams too thin. I narrowed my decision to these two cases:

I cant speak for the Acase, but I personally have the Ballistic HC and also have the Ballistic SG on the way. Just FYI, the Ballistic HC you have linked is to the old model where the port plugs are on the optional outermost silicone layer. The current model has it on the inner layer (go to official website for clarification). I also want to say the old model also does not have the water resistant mesh over the speakers IIRC from my research. If those aren't deal breakers then it's a great case for a good price...if you need heavy duty protection.

I work in construction and often times are on 8 -12 ft ladders so I need the protection in case it gets dropped. Plus I like it on the holster so I can put on some music as well. The case fully suited up measures almost 1" in thickness. I haven't even bothered trying to fit it in my pocket but I can imagine it being an annoyance both in pulling it out of the pocket and attracting pocket lint. I have used the holster the entire time. An issue I read during my research was about the "oil slick" effect from the built in screen protector. On mine (I have the updated current model), I have absolutely no issues from it but if you do, there are supposed fixes for it (stick on a second screen protector or baby powder).

The built in kickstand seems flimsy but it does what its supposed to do and hasn't fallen off on me yet. If it does you can snap it back on. With this case (current model), everything is covered; speakers have mesh over them, camera lens have the same screen protector over them like the main screen, port plugs on the inner layer. That being said, dust still somehow makes its way into the case on the screen. For the most part it isn't noticeable except under certain lighting conditions but if you are anal about stuff like that it could be irritating. It may be a non-issue if you work in a office type environment. Edit: Just wanted to add, the camera protection has not affected the picture taking or video recording.

If you need the protection, can't go wrong with the ballistic. If not, go with something else cheaper or thinner.

Here's the link to the updated version if your interested. Do note that it does cost about $10 more than the old version. Shipping was fast from the seller.

Welp, lookes like I can't post link yet but it's the one from Amazon that's $28.99
The new model number is HA0850-M005. The old one is HA0712-M005

I have the Acase and I love it. It feels very high quality and it looks great. It also has a really great feel to it, sort of soft but very grippy.

Picked up the Otterbox Defender with holster for the EVO 3D on Amazon. Bulk packaging, not retail, but it only cost me $20. MUCH better than the $50 that it sells for retail!

All the reviews from when it first came out said that there was this gap at the top of the silicon part of the case about 2mm big. How do you like the fit? Do you notice this gap?

No gap at all - it fits perfectly. If there was a design flaw at first release, they have definitely fixed it!

I'd had an Otter Defender before, back in my HTC HD2 days, but I hated how the screen protector reacted with the screen. That's not the case on this one - you'd never know the protector from the Otterbox is there.

Now the protector for the camera - that's another story. I may be removing that (easy enough!). Photos seem a bit fuzzy and lack definition with the built-in protector on the Otter.

Hey if anyone is interested I have the OEM Evo V/3D car mount, black TPU case, 3 screen protectors for sale all of it is in great condition I returned my EVO so that's why it is for sale. PM me a offer I'm looking for around 25 shipped

I was stuck between the ballistic HC and the otterbox defender, but I think I might just get the otterbox defender.

I ordered the ballistic holster & case combo from eBay today.. I need good protection, have already dropped the phone once ;-p

I thought about getting that just to be sure but I worried I'd have a hard time typing near the edges because of the case height. Do you have any issues?

I'll let you know when I receive it. :-)

If it's anything like the Otterbox, you'll have no trouble. I was concerned about that as well , having seen my girlfriend's otterbox on her Nokia Lumia 900, but after receiving it I've had no trouble typing at all.

Since an actual charging dock doesn't seem to work with larger cases anyone have a recommendation of a decent desktop stand that would work with one of these in a case? There are a wide range on Amazon. Just looking for something not fancy that will hold the phone.

So I got creative with my stand issue. Went to target and got a desk accessory from the office section. The part that holds post notes works to hold the phone. The part designed to hold letters works great for my tablet. A couple of pieces of moleskin to protect some spots and I now have a stand next to my bed that holds my phone and tablet for $5.

harvickchick,

I received the ballistic case today and have had no problems with the screen edges. The case sits off the actual touchscreen edges just enough for your fingers to get in there.

I didn't realize the case had an integrated screen protector. I don't think it plays very well with the rubbery one I had put on the phone already only because it seems to stick and make the screen look dirty/sticky (dono how to explain it). I may end up removing the one I put on the phone.

P.S. With the cases integrated power button, I no longer need to do the electrical tape trick.

I got the Ballistic HC case from in the mail today, got it on eBay for $21 and free shipping. like you said the outer skin does not effect texting but if you don't need that much protection the outer skin can be removed and you will still have the built in screen protector. I had the zagg screen protector on mine, but took it off before installing the case because it was already messed up from accidentally putting my phone in the same pocket as my keys. I would say for 20 bucks this case is awesome, especially for someone thats hard on phones. I'm a mechanic and drop protection is nice plus the plugs for the ports and mesh over the speakers which will keep out metal shavings is a great piece of mind for me. The case sells on the ballistic site for $50 i think.
