Is there any way I can change it to make it faster and make it stop crashing? Cus this thing sucks. If so how can I do it?

I have my phone rooted and I tried deleting many apps but it still crashes a lot. Btw I'm running 2.2

Your launcher keeps crashing? How many widgets are you running? What else are you running in the background?

I'm not running any at all and I only have a few shortcuts on my desktop.

Well, shortcuts shouldn't have any effect. They're just links sitting there, while widgets are like little programs that run when the home screen comes on.
I rarely run widgets anymore. If I do, it will only be for a couple of days, then I get tired of a laggy home screen and remove them.

So far in my experience, if I'm having issues with a launcher when I go to my home screen, it almost always means there is so much going on that the phone is lagging, and the launcher doesn't have enough memory to work with to get up and running, or even getting shut down to make way for apps with higher priorities. The first thing I do is run my cache cleaner to free up some mem. If I'm still having problems, I start looking at what kind of apps I have going on. If I have lots of apps that like to run in the background and check for various updates, I'll start going through them and uninstalling the ones I really don't need. The Ascend only has so much to give, and it's pretty easy to fill up the memory and bring things to a crawl. Then I'll go through the apps I really want to keep, and change settings to lessen the frequency at which they check for updates. When I think I've done what I can, I'll reboot, wait a bit after everything is up and running and has gotten the initial checks out of the way, and test things out. That has almost always fixed my launcher problems.
If I'm STILL having problems, which has happened, I'll try another launcher. Zeam is my favorite default launcher. It's pretty light on resources, but it's also pretty light on options. So I give a little to get a little.

Thanks for replying and yea I hate this phone I should of gotten the LG from metro. This phone is super slow it lags too much. Also I have tried what you've told me but its still slow. I honestly do not understand why people can like this phone. I mean yea it has a track ball but other than that it just sucks. Also I don't understand how a company could put out such a crappy phone. I like the fact that the android is an open mobile os unlike ios (even though I preffer ios) I don't have to jailbreak it to tweak it up a bit. Anyway thanks again for replying. I appreciate it.

Not when you put Gingerbread on it and over clock it. :D

This is true. We mod it because the stock ROM is rather slow. The reason so many people like the Ascend is because it's a really cheap phone. When you can mod the heck out of it and get it up to a decent speed, it ends up being worth the cash. And it's darn near impossible to brick.

If you treat it like a high dollar phone, you're going to suffer.

I'm not tech savy so how would I do that? Also what does overclock mean? And what's to brick a phone mean? I'm guessing gingerbread is 2.3?

before trying anything, you should read upon alot of things about android phones and how they work and remember to have a card reader on stanby just in case. and 2.3 is Gingerbread and 2.1 is eclair, they are roms that is for your phone, even tho 2.3 was never mint for theHuawei Ascend. ;)

Will "overclocking" it make it die faster?
Well, overclocking can make the cpu run hotter, which in theory can shorten its life span, but unless you're planning on keeping this phone for a few years or something I wouldn't really worry about it too much.

Ohh no I might buy the LG in a couple of months

It can if you overclock (speed up your processors faster than their factory settings) too high and start overheating your hardware.
So what speed would you recommend?

Your phone will decide what speed it can run at for you. For instance I can run at 729mhz but not 748mhz. Some people can run at 710mhz but not 729mhz. And some people cant even run at 710mhz and have to run at 672mhz. It all depends on what your phone will allow you to run at.

So each phone is different?

"Not all Ascends are created equal." It's a cheap phone, and the manufacturers used different parts on different phones. But it's still a decent phone, and if you consider the monetary costs, its a great phone.

Damn I should of done research before buying this phone. But ima still try to overclock it and try to remove some bloatware. Then I'm going to get the LG once I get s job again. Cus I'm 17 at the moment.

Just remember a couple things...

There are generally 2 types of Ascends. Regular, and lazy ones. Lazies won't overclock over 700 MHz. They crash.

When you get going and try to overclock, DO NOT check the "Set on boot" box until you have tried it out for a while. If you set it too high and the phone just shuts down, you'll be lucky if you don't have to re-flash your phone to get it to work again since it will just crash when you boot.

Dont forget there is another ascend called POS Ascend that want overclock past 600 mhz...;)
