Actual processor speed

Tried searching but havent found anything that specifically answers the question. I had heard that the processor was actually clocked down into the 700s out of the box even though its a 1ghz processor. Is this true? if it is about what are we running at?

it's 1 ghz. it is not underclocked.

Yep, this is correct. Why stay at 1GHz when it doesn't need to? This helps conserve power.

system panel will tell you the CPU speed in real time. it'll go anywhere from 245 up to 998.

I never see it at 998 real time, mostly in the 400-600 range

You wont because the phone is not running at a high level. try fast scrolling up and down and you can watch the processor speed go up and down. That's about the only way you can monitor it while it's running something other than System Panel.
