Advice on Roms

You have to get the same recovery kernel you used while making the backup. it is not stored in the clockworkmod folder. Just download the kernel you used while making the backup again. Get the zip cwm flashable versing of the 0.6.8 kernel, you can flash it in via your phones current recovery then boot into recovery again and restore from backup.

The "garwynn source" is the recovery you are referring to(agat) , but when you flash cm10.1 it will put CWM on there, and I haven't found a standalone file for CWM yet.

APN Pro allows you to change the APN info easily so your MMS works

Recovery is not standalone on our phone it is part of the kernel. So you need to keep a copy of the kernel you made the backup with to flash in to get into the recovery you used when making the nandroid you want to restore from.

Sorry, I might be misunderstanding you. I have the 0.6.8 zip version that was on my phone when I bought it. After I rooted, I made some backups with this recovery. Then I flashed to pacinblack, made backups ( I have that recovery too). Then I did the update, I believe with GC01 which gave me the current recovery I'm on now (0.3.2). I did make backups with this recovery already but I somehow must have gotten rid of the kernal zip when I downloaded it on my pc when I was getting ready to install the gc01 update. Thats what I want now, is that kernal/recovery zip so I can put it on my sd card so if I have any problems flashing wild for the night, I can just restore the backup. I'm sorry if this sounds confusing.

Thanks for the response. I am looking to redownload my current recovery/kernal 0.3.2, where can I find it?? In apn pro, what info am I suppose to put in there?? These may be stupid questions but I'm just trying to understand.

What exact recovery kernel (version number) did you use for the nandroid you made? Just go download what ever recovery kernel you used while making the nandroid you with to be able to restore from.

One other question, have you guys been on the wild for the night rom recently?? I'm just wondering if the echoing issue has been resolved yet. I read somewhere that it started after the 3/25 build. I looked on the wild for the night xda thread and theres no mention of a fix yet that I found.

3.0.31+
Garwynn@SXTPBuildBox
#GC01_v0.1.0

That is what it says in kernal version under about phone
I went to the kernal repository but was confused as to what kernal/recovery I used?

If you were on GC01 version 0.1.0 of the recovery kernel when you made the backup then you need to do a couple things before you flash to another ROM. That version does not backup the preload partition. You have to either flash in the current version of the kernel (0.5.0) and make another nandroid, or keep a copy of the stock GC01 ROM to flash in before flashing in the GC01 0.1.0 kernel then running the restore)

I recommend flashing the current GC01 recovery kernel and making a new nandroid before flashing to another ROM.

Thank you for clarifying this as I did not know this and would have tried to restore with this recovery if I ran into any problems. I think I will take your suggestion and flash the current version of the kernal 0.5.0. Do you know where I can find that, I am kinda lost when I go to the kernal repository with so different versions and kernals. If you could post a link to the exact version I need, that would be greatly appreciated.
Also, after I have done this, I will make a backup. Now, my other backups are no good then, right? And when I go to flash wild for the night and if I run into any problems, I would be ok restoring my backup as long as I'm on the kernal version, right?

Wait, I think I found it, it would be a JB Boost stock/touchwiz kernal, right?? It says GC01 Boost. If thats it, I want the zip version, right?? When I click on the link, it doesn't give me the version number though?? How do I find the right one??

Ok, got it, thanks. Now, I just move it to my sd card, then boot into my current recovery and flash it then?? Then do backup, and then I can proceed to flash wild for the night??

Go the the link I just posted (right above your last post) then go to the first link in that post. click the link to the GC01 in that XDA post and it will take you to the STXP site post for GC01 recovery kernel with all the versions

flash it in then reboot into recovery again (you need to make sure you are on the most current recovery) then do the nandroid.

I flashed through my current recovery and the recovery changed from 0.3.2 to 0.3.4. I made sure I downloaded the 0.5.0 version, the file is even named SXTP_Agat_GC01-v0.5.0.
I don't understand what went wrong?? Does the zip have to be on internal memory or something because I put it in my extsd under clockworkmod-backup.

Don't worry about the version number, all is well just continue on with the steps to install wild for the night

Are you sure, codegerm said I needed 0.5.0 and I needed to make a backup before I proceed with flashing wild for the night?? I just want to make sure I will be able to restore my backup if I run into any problems.

If you did a backup in 0.3.2 you can restore it in 0.3.4 being that it is still Agat's recovery

That is not recommended. Changes across different versions (example the recovery with 0.1.0 version of GC01 does not include the preload partition would gives you headaches on 0.5.0) TW jelly Bean ROMs are formatted differently so you need to use the recovery that goes with those ROMs

Use the el29 direct boot kernel(safe kernel). Wipe/Factory reset, flash the FL24 modem, flash wild for the night, then flash the gaps, then the boostmmsfix.zip, then boot into cm10.1. Install titanium backup pro, then apn manager pro. Use TB to make APN pro a system app. Fix the apn with the correct info and you are good to go. Let me know if you have any problems finding any of those things.
So, I guess I'm ready to do this then, right??

Yes, you need 0.5.0 having made the backup on 0.1.0 you don't have the preload partition backed up. you need to update to 0.5.0 and make a new nandroid backup.

Wild for the night is not a touch wiz rom. I had no problem restoring from 0.3.2 in 0.3.4

NM your referring to going back to stock which is touch wiz, man I'm tired lol
