After all that work, now constantly restarts

Hi Everyone.

My phone wont stop restarting. It loads up until the home screen, and after about 8 seconds it automatically reboots.

The details of where I am at:

It's a UK Vodafone phone GT-I9100. I rooted it using ironass's guide, and installed a different modem that plays better with the American technology (I've left the UK and now live in Minnesota, USA.) That modem also was used per ironass's guide.

PDA: I9100BULPD
Phone: I9100BULP7
CSC: I9100VODLP9

I used rooting file CF-Root-SGS2_XX_NEE_LPD-v5.5-CWM5.

Im using the ModemRIL_MUGLD3 model file, that has matching RIL and modem files.

Ive installed Siyah kernel, via the guide. I was on version 4.1.4, but now on 4.1.5, installed just now (details explained further down).

This all was working great for about a week. I had switched modems only twice, and settled on this one that worked great here.

I used the GS2WiperV1.91 to clean out any crud before the kernel install.

About 4 days ago the phone got angry. The charging indicator would be slow to realize it was plugged in, it would say that there was a usb cable plugged in when there wasn't one. It would also refuse to go to sleep mode, and the battery drain was horrendous (I used CPU spy to check up on it). It felt like something just wasn't allowing it to go to sleep, but I had no clue what it was.

I had a battery issue before, back in February, and determined the USB port was probably to blame after researching on this board for some time (spurious battery warning thread helped a lot). I installed a new one off eBay (bought in the UK) and the phone was good as new! It even connected to Kies now! (which it never had since new in September).

So, with these new problems, I thought the usb port went out again. Ordered a new one shipped from USA, installed it, and same reboot problem. However, the charging issues are gone, the phone recognizes the charger right away when plugged in and removed. So this was part of the problem.

Now it boots up long enough for me to go into clockworkmod and restart in recovery mode. I went in and cleared the cache partition and the devlik cache. Still reboots.

I went and wiped the kernel again with GS2WiperV1.91, and installed Siyah kernel 4.1.5. Didn't help.

So now I'm stuck with a phone that wont stop rebooting. How can I get it to stop being a bitch?

I did make a backup of my phone using clockworkmod, I saved a copy of the efs folder, and I used the free version of titanium backup to backup my apps when I first rooted this phone about 3 weeks ago. I'm worried that the free version of titanium backup wont save my game data though for some of my games. Would it have saved it?

I also have a lot of files hidden with Hide It Pro. I'm worried that if I do a factory reset I will also lose these files. The files were originally on the external SD card, but I don't know where the app "hides" the files to.

So, you can see that factory resetting should be my last available option (I really, really don't want to do that) and besides, would that even help this issue?

I look forward to assistance. I really liked my rooted phone and all of the options I had. Thanks to ironass I got the phone just about where I wanted it, and then this stupid rebooting thing popped up.

any ideas?
I need to have my phone working again as I am applying to jobs...
This has got to be the worst timing ever.

after looking around in ClockWorkMod I see there are some advanced restore settings. Would restoring just the boot or the system help? There is also options to just restore the data, cache, and sd-ext.

Is it safe to use the full backup I created in clockworkmod? Would this erase all of the app data?

Or should I flash something over it, like the NEAT rom?

I just want this thing to stop endlessly rebooting. It doesn't even stay running long enough to uninstall applications.

If I were to be in that situation, I'd go back to square one.

Go to CWM > Full Data Wipe/Cache Wipe/Dalvik Wipe/Battery Stats Wipe > Flash Stock Rom via Odin > Set up my phone > Use Stock for 2 days > Reroot > Reflash ROM.

So what are your thoughts on why this is happening?

Is it possible to uninstall apps from clockworkmod?

if I did the factory reset from clockwork mod would this work? Or do I need to reflash the software via Odin? Where do I get the correct file?
I did a backup of the phone, would it hurt to try to restore that file first?

Im trying to figure out which stock file to flash. Is SamMobile or Samsung-Updates the better site to get the file from?

Samsung-Updates is showing that my phone has received an update since what my phone was running. I am on PDA:I9100BULPD with android 4.0.3 and their site only has an updated BULPG which is now android 4.0.4. Is this safe to use?

SamMobile has my old file, as well as the new one on top of the list, with the Kies icon highlighted. This I presume indicates the latest version. So, which site should I download from, and which file?

I need to get this phone working again.

I tried restoring from my SD card the backup I made in clockworkmod. It comes up as an error "MD5 mismatch!"

Is this because of the Siyah kernel I am running? How do I clear up the MD5 mismatch?

The nandroid backup wont work because of a MD5 mismatch. That was supposed to be the safety net, so why didn't it work? Why am I now forced to factory reset my phone, and lose all of my information?

Ill flash the newer vodafone update on the SamMobile website and hope for the best.

so flashing that stock rom has left me with the kernel:
3.0.15-1056084
dpi@DELL131 #3

How do I root that?!

ok so I went and downloaded the previous version that I was on before the root, available at SamMobile: I9100BULPD_I9100VODLP9_VOD

The kernel now shows correctly in settings. Everything is like it was before rooting, accept one thing.

When I do the *#1234# the PDA and Phone show up correctly, but the CSC says unknown. Is this an issue?

I have now rooted that rom the same way I did before, and installed the same modem that was running great previously.

But I still can not get it to find any carrier here. Before when I did the carrier test I would pick up AT&T and T-Mobile in my area. Now: nothing.

So, what am I missing here? Why cant I connect to data??

Wifi works fine.

I have done the *#06# to show my IMEI number and it is valid. It displays it. I am still struggling to figure out why the data connection just wont work on this damn thing.

Did you ever over clock or under volt? These could cause the restarts....

On the signal front.....have you tried a few different modems and used get r I'll to check radios are all working?

Nope, never over clocked or under volted.

Yes I checked it with GetRIL and it is matching. I know this modem works because it worked before I had to factory rest my phone. but now, it wont work.

I have a feeling this CSC issue is preventing the connection to data

I dont know what is up with this thing, but I reflashed the stock firmware for the 4th time, and this time it all shows up correctly, including the CSC number! YAY!!

My details now are:
PDA: I9100BULPG
PHONE: I9100BULP8
CSC: I9100VODLPB

Android 4.0.4
Baseband: I9100BULP8
Kernel Version:
3.0.15-1056084
dpi@DELL131 #3
SMP PREEMPT Thur Sep 13 10:45:25 KST

Build number: IMM76D.BULPG

I still cant get data to connect.

What gives?

Just got off the phone with AT&T support. They cant see anything wrong. They suggested a new SIM card, so Ill drive there (Not close at all for me) this afternoon to see if that does anything. (Im not betting on it.)

Until then, please post up any other things I need to check to make sure it isnt something phone related.

Ive made a new APN according to this issue Using GoPhone SIM on 4G phones - AT&T Community Support message 11. Big surprise, that didn't work either.

UPDATE:

Got a new SIM from AT&T. Didn't solve the issue.

What did, though, is putting my old usb charging port back in the phone. After endless googling, I found out the charging port I had to replace also included anntena components. So I had fixed the charging issue by replacing that board, but introduced a new problem.

I have now contacted the eBay seller and a new usb charging board is enroute. For now I have to deal with all the battery issues with the old port just so I get signal.

Hopefully this helps people in the future. What a mess.

Ive never seen someone talk through their problem with such great detail...i was hoping someone would help as i couldn't, it sounds like you know more than me lol

Hope you get this sorted mate

Just a quick question if you don't mind..

Ive twice had that USB problem you mentioned did you find it difficult to replace it mate ?

I've figured that my pain can be someone else's gain. haha. I use the search function all the time on here, so hopefully others can benefit from my exploration with this problem.

Replacing the usb port is easy! They have tools online to help split the case after you remove the screws. There are online tutorials if you search in google as well. Dont fear replacing it, as dealing with a pissed off usb port sucks! Im currently dealing with one that wont allow the phone to go into deep sleep and stays at 200 megahertz. Drains the battery real quick! haha.
