Root After GB/Z4 ROOT MAPS ARROW INVERTED

OK, I was late rooted/themed pre .340 bloomer - this morning I successfully sbf'd back to stock FroYo, FINALLY accepted the .340 OTA and flashed the GB leak, used Z4 to root - alls well.

Ran into the Contact problem, thawed, solved.

Some other bugs in apps and learning recovery have me scratching my head but I'm taking it slowly.

BUT - MAPS, ok, I've searched along the net and noticed some others have this problem, few, but same problem. In Maps with whatever local service you prefer I locate myself accurately but before I went to GB in maps if I pointed my phone in a certain direction that street would be in front of me, same with street view, the arrow pointed which direction you pointed your phone, as if you also searched in Maps the little arrow would point to your destination and distance.

MY PROBLEM is the BACK of my phone points in the correct direction, like the arrow is inverted. At first I thought it was the new screwy Maps version, I down graded, same result, I even used TB and restored a much older version - unfortunately it was so old there wasn't an arrow, just the blue dot - no direction. I compared my girls TB Maps (which is the same version) and it looks the exact same, except her arrow actually points where the phone is pointing, like it should - so unless its a conflict with GB and Maps I'm not sure whats up. I reported it to Google, calibrated my compass several times until it was green, rebooted, cleared cache. Its really anoying considering I loved the street view, now when I look at a house/local its really behind me - no sense at all.

Anyone else have this problem? INVERTED ARROW IN "MAPS" NOT POINTING TRUE FORWARD

Haven't removed any apps
All apps thawed
No restores via TB
No renames
GPS works fine, accurate to 4 meters
Same result in Compass mode

Please tell me I'm not the only one -

Aside from that and the sync icon(which I'm still sceptical on honestly how much battery it really draws considering its at the bottom of the list) I love GB - I had a blue them on froyo, this fits the bill topped with LP and BW

TIA!

Go into the phone settings and under location there should be a compass calibration. It's a pain to do, it took me 5 tries, but it should fix your problem.

Yeah I calibrated it twice, are you saying you successfully calibrated it 5 times before it was corrected, or it took you 5 times to successfully calibrate? and on that subject I understand it states that the arrow turns green when calibrated but on froyo it would vibrate and state calibration success, or complete - can't remember.

Thanks for the tip - I'll re-calibrate 6 times to make sure and try soon. Will post results. Did you have the same problem with Maps until you did this? Thanks again for the reply.

UPDATE to the above - I have noticed when orientation is set to horizontal and you hold the phone up (as if you where taking a picture) it seems to point in the right direction, which leads me to believe that one of the accelerometers axis is not right

Mine acts the same way and it should not be like this, hopefully this gets addressed in the official release.

Glad to hear its just not me, on this forum at least - I searched before post.

Like I mentioned I compared it side by side with my girls thunderbolt, same ver. Maps but complete opposite directions. Theres also a compass calibration in Maps where you move the phone in a figure 8 motion, that could have something to do with it too -

I remember seeing that before but I can't find it now, where is this?

I had this problem and found out that I was in walking mode. I switched back to driving and it fixed itself. Apparently, map-makers walk backwards. most likely so they can draw where they just walked.

How did you do this?

Edit: I found it but it will only let you change it if you at using the Navigation and driving is the default setting.

I am on the Apex Alpha 2 test and I just tried this for the first time and everything worked correctly. I am not sure if this is because Google Maps is not built in to the Rom and you have to download it from the market or not. However everything worked great for me and I was pointed in the right direction in navigation mode the whole time. In just the map mode it was pointed in the right direction with the exception of being at a stop light it would rotate 90 degrees to the left.

Thank you, mine works fine driving but standing still and rotating causes the arrow to rotate in the wrong direction or the map rotates in the wrong direction.

AHH, sorry if I mentioned that calibration is installed in the factory system/loaded apps somewhere. Its in the app "Compass", I've always had that app so I saw it frequently, must have thought it was part of the system itself.

I flashed back to 2.3.340, installed my Apex backup and everything is working as it should. Once the final release of Apex 2.0 is out I'm reinstall GB and try it again.

Yeah hes/shes talking about Navigation, which does work hand in hand with Maps but what I'm referring to is the app "Maps" -

I think I have figured it out though, hold your phone as if you were taking a picture, vertical or horizontal and it seems to point in the right direction. This could be a big orientation issue, before you could lay the phone flat (x axis) and the direction was correct, now hold the phone vertical (z axis) and the direction is correct, well close - I think more calibration is in need. I have been testing half indoors half outdoors with these results.

The other issue I was having with GB Maps is when I turne clockwise (depending on if you have the arrow rotate or the map) the map or arrow turned in the opposite direction.

Well, I went back to my 2.3.340 Apex backup and everything with the Maps was working fine. So today I reinstalled GB and then Apex 2.0. In both cases I'm still having issues with the GPS/Maps. If I have it set so the arrow turns as I turn, when I turn clockwise the arrow rotates counter-clockwise. If I have it so the arrow stays stationary and the map rotates, when I turn clockwise the map rotates counter-clockwise. I need to get this figured out since I'm going trout fishing on Sunday and I need to use the GPS. Any suggestions?

Edit: Locus Free Map works as it should.
