The call was from Seattle Washington and I live in florida but the caller left a voicemail saying " press 3 to be put on our do not call list" what the heck is this kind of making me paranoid about what apps I download and what permissions they ask for. Should I be worried? And do you think it was from updating the app it must of been a minute or so after I updated it

Im downloading it now to see if I get the same thing. I'll update in a bit.

Update: So far no calls. That is definitly strange. Did you load any other apps around the same time?

Never happened to me, fwiw.

If it's true, it's scary, though.

Must be unrelated .. I updated the NYT app yesterday and did not get any calls. Perhaps some other app that is responsible.

Based on the newspaper choice I would say it is more than likely the DNC or CPUSA looking for monetary support ;)

Really?

You honestly feel that your personal politics would help the OP?

For those here who don't know what "soulfetcher13" is talking about:

DNC = Democratic National Committee (i.e. the Democratic party)
CPUSA = Communist Party USA

The the insinuation is that the Democratic party are communists, and that the New York Times is a propaganda arm for both groups.

Seriously, using a post about a suspicious phone-call as an excuse to proselytize your political "viewpoint" is not only amateur, but likely also against forum rules.

even better, check out "soulfetcher13"'s signature:

Why do Americans love conspiracy theories?

Hey, I did contact the NY Times yesterday morning regarding their 'Latest News' update problems and they issued the update by early evening....

I updated my Fox News app and got a call from Sarah Palin saying that she was going to hunt me down. :( For the last damn time, I'm not a moose!

Why do Americans love conspiracy theories?

I think it's because we live in a constant state of social and economic paranoia.

As children, we're taught to be kind, be generous, help each other, care for each other, etc. As we grow older we see these teachings as antithetical to success.

Updated mine last night, but got no phone call. I did see a shadowy figure lurking outside my window last night though.

Uninstall NYT and download Buzzbox. You can set up feeds for any news source.

Actually, studies have proven that kindness and generosity lead to success. But that is for a different thread.

I always google the phone number of suspicious calls after I get them. Every time, I find many others complaining of the same thing. I'd bet money it isn't related to the NYT app.

Also keep the politics out of this. There is no better forum killer than politics. It is a lose lose situation.
