Root After yesterdays shenanigans.

I see that you found my thread. :)
You just need to clean up your goldcard. First run gparted and remove all extra partitions from it. There should only be one partition, and it should be fat 32 primary. Format it with a full format and not quick format. Then make sure that the name if the file PB99IMG.zip and not pb99img.zip.zip. Remove the zip part and see if windows de recognizes the file. If it does, add the zip part, else leave it as such. Now boot again. It should work. Almost nothing can destroy a gold card once created, but the format must be correct.

NOPE. Exactly the same thing happens as with a quick format. Fastboot opens file, blue paginator fills to the top;

CID incorrect!
Update fail!

Do you want to reboot your device? etc.

You mean remake from the original emailed image? There is no way I can get the real long number from the phone to reverse it now. ##

The number will never change for the card. But anyway, it is not needed. You would only need to write the emailed image to your phone.

I dont agree that it will help though. My suggestion is to use another card. But since you dont have a means of reading the CID of that card (unless another Android phone is available at your disposal), you will have to use another phone. Try what Eddy suggested and see if writing the image once again helps. It will help if the initial process you followed for creating the goldcard in the first place was erroneous.

P.S. If nothing works, as a last resort, you can connect a new microsd to a non usb port of a laptop and get the cid. It's a bit advanced. Let's see if easier ways help.

My 16Gb card is only 14.9Gb with corruption. Are we flogging a dead horse here? I will try the process again. I do have another card, but don't have another phone.

You can use the other card but you'd have to re-do the whole gold card process as the CID of the card is unique to the SD card. Worth a go, though

That's not corruption. With default block size any 16 gb card will be that size. :)

Over a gigs worth of boot sector? Sheesh! I know (or at least strongly suspect) there is something wrong with the card as this is how the whole problem started. A Nandroid .md5 checksum mismatch.

I'm about to try remaking my goldcard.

OK. OK..............Ok. Intitial felicitations are now muted! CID now passed, re-writing the boot sector worked, but I now have;

S-ON
HBOOT 0.00.0000
MICROP-031d

and then my radio number

Its now at fastboot waiting for me to do something!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: Update fail!
Main verion was older

That's ok. Take the latest PB99IMG.

Thanks Droid.

Anyone have a reliable link? Shipped roms just drop off and leave you with half a file. I could try a torrent i guess.

Cant I run an RUU now through Windows?

I'm not at my pc. Just go to shipped roms, get the link of 2.29.402, copy the full filename, search in google. Someone will have uploaded it somewhere else.

Better to use this method. Ruus have a tendency to fail due to driver issues.

I've never had an issue with an RUU at any point of owning my Desire. I do prefer the PB99IMG method, mind, as you can just leave it be

I've had one, which led to an slcd brick. and I perpetually have them reporting my battery life as less than 50% and fail rto proceed even when it is fully charged. It could be an isolated issue, but I've read of people having driver issues too. But the ruu method is definitely the method htc techies use.

Thanks Eddy, I'm dowloading something now. Its going to take another hour!

The RUU's I tried this morning came back with "not enough battery" but then in fastboot they would run until they refused a verion number.

Do you think I should eat something? I haven't eaten today.

I never thought I' be so glad to see FROYO! Now all I have to do is unroot and S-Off.

Strickly speaking this post is in the wrong forum.

Thanks everyone

EDIT: I mean root

Welcome back - that was a bumpy ride!

Just a little, I'm now rooted again and I have S-Off, which did not go smoothly! Which one of you peoples installed HTC Sync on my machine?

I knew the risks and live and learn. Someone might like to put it in their FAQ that keeping your goldcard boot sector image as a file for safe keeping is definately a good idea. Had I deleted it after making my goldcard the first time I wouldn't have been able to fix my phone.

Thinking of which I best go buy a new one, (card that is).

Thank you everybody.

That was quite an experience. Congratulations. :)
