Accessories Aftermarket Battery Testing Results...

Hey all. I've been out of town and sick so the results are on hold. But Monday I will start running the tests again. Early data looked like the 1750 battery was at about 1200 mah capacity. But don't quote that as scripture until I finish my tests.

Ok i just read a post from another site in which they tested multiple batteries. VERY interesting results.

The extended Seidio 3500mah for the Evo 4G tested out at 2821mah (81%).

The extended Seidio 3200mah for the Nexus 1 tested out at 2691mah (84%).

The Seidio 1750mah battery for the TP2 tested out at 1383mah (79%).

Mugen and Amzer batteries were even worse than Seidio, averaging about 75% of claimed mah.

The generic Chinese batteries (both extended and standard) averaged about 55-60% of claimed mah. OUCH! ($11 ebay battery for Hero claimed 3200mah, actual 1790mah)

OEM HTC batteries are the way to go. The HTC 2150mah extended for DINC had exactly 2150mah. The TP2 OEM HTC battery rated at 1500mah had 1491mah.

If you need an extended battery, Seidio 3500mah still has the most mah with actual being about 2800mah. 2nd most is the HTC extended with 2150mah. Outside of these extended batteries, the OEM HTC 1500mah battery is the way to go.

Wish I would have read this before I wasted $40 on a battery when I could have got the same thing for $15... thanks for the false advertising Seidio! I could been a good customer (already bought a case and battery) but because of this I likely will never be purchasing any other Seidio products.

Wish I had too. So my battery (SEIDIO 1750) is maybe as good as the HTC 1500 or perhaps worse, depending on what you read, but both translate to a rip off.

Okay I wouldn't say you got completely ripped off. I've used 2 diffrent HTC 1500 and a Seidio 1750 and let me tell you the Seidio always lasted an extra couple hours at the end of the day compared to the 1500 that only lasted an hour or so more then the stock 1300 battery. I understand all the tests and everything but i my "real world" usage it lasted longer. I traded it for a 2150 battery and I wish I hadn't . It is by far the best slim battery for the Incredible

Dustin,

first off thanks for all your work and the excellent results that you achieved. I know I am a much more smarter consumer because of your tests.

There is one more test I would like to see. There has been lots of debate on these boards around "Bump Charging" your battery. A good portion of the debators state that by turning your phone off after it has signaled that it is fully charged and continuing to charge your battery until the green light appears again (i.e., bumping it), will give you significant more charge for your phone. Others state that this "bump charging" makes no difference.

Could you do a simple test that determines if a battery lasts longer being charged in a phone that is on while charging or a phone that is "bumped charged"? This would conclusively answer that question and should only require a single battery and two tests with it.

Thanks again!

thanks for your hard work. I am trying to decide on the 3500 mah or 2150 mah myself. it's tough because even if the 3500 is not at 3500, but like, 3000, that's still a lot of mah. is there a way to test whether or not the battery holds its charge over an extended period?

I've owned both and honestly the 2150 is a waste for a little more you can get the 3500 and it blows the 2150 out of the water and is about the same size with a much nicer back cover. Do yourself a favor and order the 3500seidio .

Do you really use your phone so much in a day that the 1500 OEM battery wouldn't last through the day? For $15, it's an amazing bang for the buck and doesn't cause your sexy Incredible to look like Zack Morris's cell phone in Saved By The Bell.

thats easy to, i can burn thru mine in 8 hours somedays and make it last 30 others.

With all due respect, how do you use your phone for 8 hours in one day? The only way I see this as being possible is on a long flight, and then if you buy the 1500, the combo of the stock and 1500 easily make it through the day's travels.

I cant speak on Matt's behalf but I personally A2DP stream music for 8-10 hours a day while at work Monday-Saturday and sometimes Sunday as well. And that just music use, I do all kinds of other crazy stuff with my phone daily :D

i never said i used it for 8 hours, i said the battery is dead in 8 hours. surf the net, play some angry birds for an hour or so. Listen to some music, gtalk with the gf on and off for several hours. it all eats battery especially using 3g connection and not on wifi. If i use the GPS for 45 minutes to go somewhere it will eat a big chunk also. its not hard to run the battery out if you actually use the phone and not let it sit on the desk and check email once an hour or something

hey, i have a 1500 oem battery in my phone right now. it lasts me all day, and it's my everyday battery.

i want a 3500 or 2150 for when i'm doing my long distance running. I'm training for a marathon and I want to use SportyPal Pro to keep track of my laptimes and mile split times, etc. An hour and a half(about) worth of gps puts me to like, below 70%, like 60%ish, so an entire marathon would put me out of power. Plus, I would like to listen to music/podcasts, take photos, etc., during the marathon. (i plan on havin' some fun!)

We really need the full version of Angry Birds on Android. I've beaten each level we currently have way too many times.

If your battery is dead in 8 hours, there's something wrong with it or your phone. The only time mine's ever died in 8 hours has been when an app has kept the phone awake the entire time or I've literally used it for hours straight on a plane, train, or boat.

Grandmaster's streaming audio makes sense. I didn't think of that since I always streamed music at work from my web browser. I suppose a combination of streaming music for 8-10 hours and other minimal use could kill the battery in a work day. If you have the 1500, you have the stock too, though, so you can just keep it at work as a back up and your phone remains nice and thin. You also save a bunch of money on the extended.

I use my phone throughout the day for everything. Email, web surfing, phone calls, GPS, games (addicted to Homerun Battle 3D), texting, streaming sports audio, music, videos, etc. I also am currently not working while I await my new job's start date, so I have much more free time on my hands than most should. Although I guess in this economy, there may be more people at home on their Incredibles than at work. Or maybe it's because of how much people use their Incredibles they no longer have work? Who knows?

Anyway, it's been a very rare occasion that my 1500 has died before the day was over even with tons of use. It has happened, and I keep my stock around as back up. I just don't see how any person with a job or in school can need more than the 1500 or stock, except for the few mentioned exceptions. I also don't see the appeal in Jersey Shore, so maybe I'm just oblivious to the obvious.

This makes sense, except for the running a marathon part. Good for you!

yes i have maxed out 3 stars on all levels so i do need the full version now.

trust me there is NOTHING wrong with the phone its all about how you use it and signal strength etc. i bet i got 10-15 work emails and atleast 50 personal emails in the last 8 hours so im atleast checking the phone for those if not replying to them. in the last 5 hours i have sent and received over 650 messages on gtalk so the screen and phone are on and off for all of those and again being used.

Along with that there is the weather syncing every hour, contacts and calender syncing for the 3 email accounts also and facebook every 1 hour twitter every 30 minutes, foursquare is updating every 30 minutes, i have wallpaper shuffling every 15 minutes. My data connection is not excellent at work so the phone uses more battery.

what can i say i use the phone my awake is probably around 30-50% of my uptime. I am not complain that much though because i have a charger at work and in the car if i need them.

like i said i can great battery life too. I didnt touch the phone hardly at all on monday. The phone was off the charger at 5 am when i left work. woke up around noon and didnt hardly use it. I checked email every so often from that but i wasnt talking to the GF or surfing the net since I could use the laptop. Around midnight it was still over 50% so i could have easily gone 40 hours i bet on that charge with that usage pattern. I have wifi available at home the whole time too so the 3g radio isnt being used at all.

So there is a guide on how to drain a 1500 mah battery in 8 hours and then how to get 40+ out of it too :)

There is only one thing to be taken from all of this, and it is serious. You need to go to GTalk Anonymous for some counseling.

I kid. But yeah, you definitely use your phone more than me. I sync as much and have tons of widgets, but your gtalk and email use is pretty insane. I will try to make my phone die in 8 hours tomorrow and see what happens. Exciting times ahead...

Denial.... thats always the first sign :P

My 1500 battery always makes it through the work day. The difference is rather or not I show up at home with an almost dead battery or if I throw it on the charger at lunch and top it off ( I always do )

My 1500 gets me a wopping 5 hours, TOPS!! So frustrated with this situation already. I've had it for 3 days and really thought this was going to be a major difference from the stock but ummmm, NOPE..Not at all. I wish someone could help me out with this bc my up and awake times, i believe are correct, so nothing is keeping it awake, at least I don't think so..Arrrrghhhhh!!

Definitely something is not right.

Next time your phone is unplugged for several hours, look at the uptime and awake time, and post both here.
