Help Again.. battery draining EXTREMELY fast

4 hours passed since I unplugged my Galaxy S4, Android 4.3 and battery is already on 15%..

Original Samsung battery, WIFI is on, mobile network signal is low (I know that makes some difference). I have another 4 batteries but they all draining fast (but these batteries are not original so I am not 100% sure they are a good test). Phone was on idle almost the whole day, used it for one short call.
When WIFI is off and 4G is on it drains even faster.

When checking the BATTERY STATS it shows that 80% was used by ANDROID OS.

Tried different types of apps, nothing helps, nothing can give a NORMAL breakdown of what is the problem exactly. What does it mean Android OS?? what part of OS? totally not clear.

Some days battery works longer, some days extremely short like today. What to do with this phone? I am about to throw it in the garbage, I know that many people are complaining and I can't seem to find ANY normal solution how to identify the issue. It becomes simply ridiculous.

So does anyone knows something I don't? How to identify the problem exactly? like if it's coming from an app or from a setting in the phone or from bad reception or from bad battery?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Hi

Install GSam Battery Monitor and Wakelock Detector, both free from playstore. Let them run for a day/cycle and see what they say.

I would expect 80% of the drain to be from the OS of you were not using the phone for anything but your drain is not normal. Wakelock detector may well identify the cause. I am moving this thread to the s4 forum to get more specific help.

I have just installed GSam Battery Monitor and will see how it goes.
The second one requires a rooted phone.

Thanks, will report tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Another thing to look at while in the battery stats, is how long Android OS was running, CPU used and data sent and received.

Ok, here is the report:

I have attached a screenshot showing the wakelocks I have. I googled them and couldn't find anything useful. Many posts are talking about Pebble. I don't have Pebble.

Seems like something related to Bluetooth, but not clear how to resolve.

Please help!

You've tried all the obvious stuff, so I think it's time for the divide & conquer approach. Boot into safe mode and run it for a day to see if the battery drain situation improves. Safe mode disables all user-installed apps, preventing them from loading or consuming any resources. If the problem is with the phone or battery, it will still exist in safe mode. If the problem goes away, then you'll know one of your apps is the cause. At that point, you can boot normally, uninstall all apps, and start reinstalling one by one till you find the culprit. Don't be fooled into thinking that just because an app came from a well-known developer (e.g., Google Keep) that it can't be the cause. Installs can get corrupted, especially since you noted that you have a marginal network signal. GL!

Whatever61: Your phone isn't trying (unsuccessfully) to latch onto a weak 4G, WiFi, or Bluetooth signal is it ?

You're sure the battery is good ?

How much battery drain overnight when you sleep with AIRPLANE mode enabled ?

Hey guys,
So I got my S4 about 6 months ago but ever since it had a problem with front sensors, light sensor not working, proximity sensor not working, auto rotate stopped working after a few hours of on time etc.. anyway, sent it away, got repaired, very happy.. went on holidays, everything was fine. Even going to bed after full day usage with 40% left.

Then about a week ago I got a cheap Chinese U8 smartwatch, just to try it out, downloaded an app, "bt notifier" to send data to the watch.. everything worked fine but battery drain was an issue, stopped using watch, still having trouble, uninstalled bt notifier app but still draining.. my phone is only used for some Facebook during lunch hours, a few WhatsApp messages and 1 or 2 very short calls.
My usage is 89% in 12 hrs 21 min, android system using the most battery.. The battery is 100% original and everything was fine until this watch came, that I'm no longer even using.
Please someone help cos this is driving me crazy, I'm up at 5 am, 100% battery, I'm charging again by 6 pm. Here's a screen shot of my usual battery usage

I am having the same issue. Some days it is fine other days I feel like my phone is going to burn a hole through my pocket. When it does that I look at my battery usage and the Android OS is always above 50%

Help? :(

In airplane mode battery stays great. With 3g/4g it seems to drain faster than with wifi. Also its very hot when drains..

This and the long list of kworkers in your earlier post suggests that you have a low or fluctuating signal problem.

Someone asked that earlier, apologies if you replied and I missed it. Long week ok lol.

Anyway - if you go to the GSam graphs, you can see power vs temperature and phone signal, here's what I mean -

Thanks, I did not check it yet, but assuming you're right, how to solve it?
Depends on your needs and what carrier you have.

For example, if it's going in and out of 4G a lot and you don't need it all of the time, you may have a setting to turn it off. I think AT&T removes it though, hence, the carrier. And then just switch it on when best for you. I have a shortcut on my home screen for exactly that situation.

There are also apps that will control the radios when the screen is off. No one needs a 4G power draw in their pocket if that's the case.

But let's see what you have and go from there.

Oh, definitely make sure you're not running automatic task killers or ram cleaners.

Well, it is jumpy sometimes.. I have to say that it happens to lots of people I know (the battery drain).

I have another question then... I would like to have an app that can just turn off Mobile data and wifi and turn it on, lets say once in 5 minutes.

It won't be like that ALWAYS, but only when I set the mode. So for example I know that I am going out for the whole day, I turn on this mode and battery should be fine..

Another way could be that it turns on the mobile data when I turn on the screen of the phone..

bumppppppp?

Just to update you on what I've found so far.

I removed my Exchange, Outlook and SkyGo account from the Account section. Also I went into each account in this section and made sure accounts I didnt want syncing were correct. It appears samsung account was set to not sync but was syncing as the time for it kept updating itself every so often.
I have disable Wifi, Location and Bluetooth. On top of this I set the Data to only use GPRS

Last nigh was the first time I didnt need to plug my phone in. It was 47% at 11pm and at 7am it was 43% and the battery graph was nice and flat.

I'm going to enable one thing at a time to see what might set the drain away. If I find any more I'lll try and report back.

Basically, you made a brick out of your phone :))))

Now that I updated to Android 5.0 it became a bit better I think.

Anyway, I've noticed that the problem is specifically with mobile data.
I think that there should be an app/a setting that will just disable mobile data when the phone is idle. it will enable it from time to time to check for updates and turn it back off again. That's it, very simple. This will be like a certain mode on the phone, you can turn it on/off manually.

That's it, simple as that.

The battery drain became somehow better.. now I am fighting with another Android problem: LAG.

Amazing how they manage to buff it up with so much hardware and still it works like a laggy piece of crap.

Ftfy.

Have you disabled carrier bloatware?

Are you rooted? How much of TouchWiz are you using and how much are you willing to replace?

Well, carrier bloatware you mean like 3-4 apps that were installed in the beginning? yep, deleted it. Or is there something else?

Not rooted.
About TouchWiz, I don't really know (please let me know what you would like to know specifically).

I Googled for a bit and it says to disable completely you need to root and install custom ROM, but if you install another launcher it will replace it partially. I am using GO Launcher.

I don't mind replacing the whole thing, as long as I will be able to receive the newest firmware updates.

Thanks!
