Alarm clock not working on Eris

I had this problem too. I registered because so many people have had this problem and the answer is simple and I wanted to share it.

Go into your clock, click on the alarm you're setting.

Then, click on "Alarm Sound." Choose your sound, AND be sure to hit the volume up rocker on the side of your phone. For some reason, the alarm is either initially set at silent, or it gets turned down to silent when you silence your phone.

Either way, make sure your alarm sound is up at an audible level so that you can hear it.

Hope that helps!

Well I was way ahead of you on this little hint, BUT, it didn't work anyway. I was supposed to get up at 4 AM for a very important meeting and the damn thing never went off. I thought about it and when I had tested the alarm to make sure it worked, I don't recall it ever ringing either because I woke up before it was due to go off. So thanks for your tip, but it doesn't work anyway.

Thanks! This is the whole reason I joined the forum. I couldn;t figure out houw my alarm just stopped ringing. Luckily the vibrate function makes a loud enough sound to alert me.

Seemed to work for my test, I will see what happens tomorrow morning

I have been having on and off issues with my alarm as well recently. Has anyone noticed any difference in the alarm working or not working while plugged into the wall charger with phone awake vs asleep?

Not sure what you mean by "asleep". Do you mean the screen turns black (i.e., screen is off)? I think when the screen is off because of the screen timeout, everything is still running. When I test the alarm to make sure it's working, I set the alarm for 1 minute in the future so the screen is on when it rings. Also, the phone is unplugged. This has always worked

When I use the alarm for real to wake up in the morning, the screen will be black & the phone is plugged in. This usually works, but sometimes the ring does not happen (but the screen shows the alarm is "ringing", but you can't hear it).

This is the exact same issue I have, and it is only sometimes. There doesn't seem to be any pattern, it's just kind of random... very inconvenient though :(

Is it possible that your phone has gone into silent mode for some reason?

I noticed that when I put my phone in silent mode I forget to turn it off.

Also, I seem to have read something about the master volume control being involved -- whatever that is.

Finally solved this problem for my phone. Turns out when you take a picture, it affects the Alarm Sound volume. If you take a picture (using the pre-installed Camera app) when the Ringer Volume is on vibrate or mute, it will turn the Alarm Volume to mute. If you take a picture when the Ringer Volume is at some audible level, it will turn the Alarm Volume down. No wonder it seemed random.

Now, whenever I set an alarm, I go to Alarm Sound & then press the volume keys on the left side of the phone to make sure the Alarm Volume is set to max.

To review, for those who haven't read this entire thread, the problem is that when an alarm is set (using the pre-installed app Clock, then going to Alarm), it often works fine but then seemingly randomly, it stops working. In this case, at the alarm time, the screen shows the alarm has activated & the track ball flashes, but there is no sound.

I'm told by HTC that this will be fixed in OS 2.1 (but they don't know when it's coming out).

Another helpful app that I use is called AudioManager. I used to have the same problem of the Alarm volume automatically going silent or low, but have since follow a pattern every night (with 100% success so far).

At night, right before I lay down, I click the clock widget, which brings up my alarms. I select the alarm I want just to confirm the time, then click Done.

On my home screen is the AudioManager widget, a quick glance will show the alarm volume. It seems a bit cumbersome but in actuality it takes about 15 seconds to do, which is worth it if I want to be able to fall asleep knowing my alarm will wake me in the morning.

One other side question: how can I set the volume to "alarm only" so that my alarm blasts what I have selected but phone calls and text messages don't trigger the ringer?

Hi there,
I used to use a BlackBerry, and am just trying to figure out my new Eris. I used to be able to set the alarm on my BlackBerry and then power it down, essentially saving the battery overnight. Just before powering down, a screen would pop up saying:

"Turning handheld off"
"Next on time January 27, 2010 at 8:00am"
"Press any key to abort"

Is there a way to configure the Eris to do the same thing?
Thanks,
Eris Newbie

RE: the alarm only (text, email, phone silent) question, I also used to be able to set custom "profiles" on my BlackBerry. So if I only wanted text and phone calls, rather than email notification, I could set this up with essentially one-click. If you have tips on how to do this, that would be great too.

User error...

There is nothing wrong with the alarm clock. Mine works great. Please read the manual.

WOW looks like a lot of us are having the same problem with the alarm clock. We all must need to read the manua and apparently dont know how to use our phonesl huh? Thanks for your help..LMAO

Get Volume Control or AudioManager from the Market. Make sure your Alarm sound is on high. Make sure that you don't KILL Clock with your Task Manager.

Also, read this post again:

There you have it. Just be careful with this. it just happened to me this morning. Especially if you use Rings Extended (Because you can't set 'alarm volume' in Rings Extended).

I was also having these issues but the thing that cured it was "ignoring" the clock on the taskiller. Open your taskiller, press and hold the clock, then hit "ignore". Then when you kill your running apps at night, your alarm will still run. Hope this helps.

I've been using Kaloer clock (found in the market) for about 2 weeks now, and I really like it. It has options to force a max volume that's set by you, as well as automatically starting up when the phone is plugged in. I've yet to have any problems with it, and it actually has a nice big display that makes the phone look like an alarm clock when it's running.

Kaloer Clock Android App Review by AndroidTapp.com | Android Tapp. Android App Reviews

^That review seems to be a bit outdated, since I have several skin options for mine, and setting an alarm to go off every day isn't something I have to do every day. Besides that, it will at least give you an idea of what it is and/or what it looks like.

My alarm clock wouldnt work and made me late many times and i could not figure it out. The problem was that I had a Automatic Task Killer, and I had the program "killing" the clock function when the phone went into sleep mode (when the screen went black). Once I set it the task killer not to "kill" the clock function, my alarm worked perfect.

Alright, I have had my Eris for 48 hours now. My second HTC phone, had the Touch previously and never had an issue with the alarm.

Twice now my alarm has not sounded, not even flashed in the morning to let me know, luckily one of my children like to wake up early and snuggle in bed with me because otherwise I would have been late to work. The first night and last night I tested the alarm each time and it worked, but then it didn't work in the morning time. I have read thru this thread and have added the "clock" ("alarm" was not listed) in Advanced Task Killer to the ignore list. Also, I quadipuled checked the volume to make sure it is up all the way. ALSO, my wife just noticed (she also has the Eris) that when she plugged in her phone on the charger today it automatically changed her ringer to silent mode...not sure why that is.

I will post tomorrow and let you know if my alarm worked.

Well, it worked this morning. Thought I would post to let others know when they go searching the forums asking why their alarm didn't work.

I also had the same issue. I downloaded digital clock and problem solved. I got woke up 3 mornings by the kids bus driver blowing the horn instead of my alarm. No problems since getting digital clock.

My alarm doesn't work either I don't use task killer and there is no sound for my alarm only the vibration works I had to have it replaced. For some reason noone at VZW could figure it out either there must be a glitch in that
