Alarm volume turns all the way down

MoodyBlues

Compassion is cool!
My alarm volume--and ONLY the alarm volume--keeps turning itself all the way down. I didn't know until after sleeping through the alarm for several days, and chalking it up to stronger sleep meds. :o I finally decided to check it, and found the problem wasn't with the alarm, but with the volume.

I turn it back up all the way, and forget about it--and then the next morning, I sleep through the alarm again...because the volume's turned all the way down again!

Ideas?

It's just the stock clock, @ocnbrze.

I turned the volume back up right before I posted this thread...and look!:

As you can see, it's turned all the way down again. WTF?! :o

Yes, done and done, @ocnbrze.

I really have no clue what else to check/do/try!

Luckily, my daily alarm is usually just a reminder to, well, get up and not stay in bed all day. So it's not important. But when I have an appointment that day, it does matter--and I have one coming up on Wednesday. Although my helper will make sure I'm up, I'd still like to get this fixed.

Forgot to add: Moto Z² Force Edition on Oreo 8.0.0 (not rooted).

i see do not disturbed preferences, but is it turned on maybe?
Nope. Like it says, "no automatic rules turned on." Plus, keep in mind that it happens randomly, in the middle of the day--like yesterday, where I'd turned it back up, posted this thread, checked it, and it was all the way down again. I never use DND, and haven't even ventured into its settings since initially setting up this phone, so I don't think that's it.
Did you install something new recently?
Nope. It's been weeks.
Another viable fix to your situation would having a dog that snores. That'll fix the issue... trust me. :D
Oh I know you're right about that! I miss my beautiful little boy all snuggled up next to me...

Waking up next to this face? Priceless!

Believe me, if I was healthy enough, I'd adopt a Great Dane in a heartbeat. I miss mine. :( It was always fun when more than one was on the bed at the same time. :o :D

Your beautiful little boy looks like he didn't take any garbage from anyone!

You're right--he didn't. But the funniest thing was that he was the sweetest, the gentlest gentle giant. His bark would scare off any bad guys, yet kids--little kids, even, like toddlers--intuitively knew how sweet he was. He went everywhere with me, including work, and loved going to Petco. Children were drawn to him like a magnet, and it was quite a sight considering the kids had to look up two feet to see his face. :D

You mentioned clearing the clock app's cache but have you tried using 'Clear data' instead? That will delete all the clock app's configuration files, along with the app's cache. Perhaps this issue is due to something like a corrupt settings option (app settings are stored in config files, not the cache). Don't forget to go into the Clock app's Settings menu, make any changes, and see if that allows the alarm volume level to stay as is.
Also have you tried selecting a different sound for the alarm? This odd problem might be something to do with whichever sound that's currently set as the default alarm ringtone.

Thanks @svim, but unfortunately none of that has helped.

When I first started troubleshooting this--and assuming the problem was with the clock--I tried other sounds, in the clock: silence. I went to System Settings and tried the same sounds: they worked. *frown* More evidence pointing to the clock being the culprit.

I eventually looked at my volume settings. That's when I found that the alarm volume, only, was turned completely down. I knew I hadn't done that, but I turned it up and carried on. When the same thing happened again, I started tearing things apart--and nothing's helped.

I do have a theory, which started forming last night, but can't test it right now. I'll update one way or the other when I know more.

I knew you had a cat now I know you have dog too. I hsved a blue dovermenHer name was Baby andvshe was a big baby. Super friendly, I neber worried about her bitting anyone. In fact, she never did. She lasted me bout 17 1/2 years. I know there animals and all but after that many years they kind become part of the family. She will be wished.
Oh, sorry I don't have advice on how to resolve the issue with your phone. Just do your self a favor and toss the Moto and get yourself a Note 4 LoL :) JK.
I really do hope you find a solution @MoodyBlues . Best of wish.

@MoodyBlues: did you see how I hijacked your thread? I'm such a good moderator! :vroam:
Damn, I want :vroam: back! Both of them! (I can't picture in my head any more how they were different, but I remember having two.)

As for hijacking--no! It's not hijacking, it's thread-drift! And, personally, I think it's a good thing--it resembles how people talk in real life. :D

I knew you had a cat now I know you have dog too.
Slight corrections, if I may? I currently have four cats, all rescues, and no dogs. I had Great Danes for decades, along with assorted mutts, but they're all gone now. I miss them. :(

Like your Doberman, all my pets have been part of my family. Over the years, we had as many as 5 Great Danes and 12 cats at one time! And, yes, all were indoors, where family members belong. :)

You're lucky that Baby lived so long! The worst thing about Great Danes is their short lifespans, only 7 years on average. Most of mine lived a good deal longer than that...but still way too little.

I do have a dog living with me, but she's actually my live-in helper's. She's about 14 or 15, also a rescue, and...some unknown mix of breeds. She spends a lot of time with me--that started after she realized I'd always have snacks for her. :)

I think my hunch was correct. It involves my live-in helper's new Chromecast.

I haven't had enough opportunity to say for sure, but the problem started and, I think, only occurred when she was using her new Chromecast.

At this point I don't have much to go on, just the perhaps coincidental entrance of a new gadget on my Wi-Fi network. How or why that could/would turn my alarm volume off...I have no clue.

If/when I have more info, I'll update. All I can say for sure right now is that my alarm volume hasn't turned itself down recently--nor has my helper used her Chromecast.
