Help Alarm?

Is there a way of making the phone turn on when the alarm goes off in the morning? I was late this morning as I turned the phone off last night, my old Sony's used to turn the phone on with the alarm.

Hadn't answered, as I wasn't sure... is there not an app you can get that has this functionality?
 
Must remember not to turn off when relying on the alarm. Bit rubbish really, and yep most expensive yet yet not as good as.my. trusty old sony lol

Perhaps it is only me but why would you expect the phone to turn on "automatically" when you turned it off? Off means off.

Why turn your phone off in the first place? There are many ways to stop the screen turning on or otherwise disturbing you through the night with almost zero battery drain.

That's a good point. I use Quick Profiles (plus Quick Profiles Pro) which has allowed me to set up several different profiles, including one called "Night". I've been using this since I first got my phone but now suspect that Tasker might be a more versatile alternative way of achieving this.

This 'issue' is something that crops up frequently. See this topic for an example. There are also reasons for requiring a device to be powered off other than simply power saving.

The plain and simple fact is that, right now, Android devices are "off" when powered-off. There's no equivalent to the PC's BIOS/RTC to allow this to occur. Apparently at least some hardware supports the functionality, but Google/OHA consider implementing required OS support as too complex:
Sorry folks, but this is not a feature we want to do. There are too many unknowns with respect to what state the device is in exactly when it boots into the alarm-only state with respect to 3rd party apps, the hardware, kernel, bootloader settings required to implement this feature.

Beacause every Nokia and Sony Ive had in the past has this feature. I wanted to turn my phone off as Id left my charger at home. Sorry is that not the done thing, turning your phone off:D:D:D

Nope, not allowed to turn your phone off.

How are we supposed to pester you with whatsApp messages in the middle of the night if you turn the blooming thing off??;)
 
I was always told that smart phones should be left on most of the time. I have an app that turns it to silent from 2300 to 8.00 in case I forget

I am on CyanogenMod 7, rather than the stock ROM and have exactly the same thing set up - I think it was one of the advanced settings for the ROM!
 
I'm not sure if this is the app that Spaceprobe is talking about, but you might want to check this one out SilentTime - that's the free version... there is also a paid version.

Just found that one quickly for you - it also gives exceptions, so you could set it to let your family ring you, even if it's on silent (if you really want them to, of course! ;))
