Help Alert: Network error for my email

my email is no longer refreshing and just says "Alert: Network error". I have deleted the account and reset it up but it does the same thing. This is not temporary as I have been trying to mess with it for the last 5 or so days. It is my aol account with the mail icon. my gmail with the gmail icon works fine. Any help?

I am having the exact same problem. AOL email account, and I also tried deleting it and recreating it. Still get the network error.
But..I can send email and also i have another AOL screen name and that email account works fine and all the settings are all the same.

Again, I know I am connected because I can send mail, but it will not retrieve or download mail. Hope someone can help.

My phone is HTC EVO

I have the same problem with my evo. Started a few days ago, and I have deleted and restored my email account several times. I even put my email account on my husbands epic, and I get all my messages there just fine, soooooo.............what gives?????

Hmmm, that is odd. I have my aol email linked to my Evo and I am having no problems. I will keep my eye on it. Hopefully it will get sorted out soon.

I am having same issue on my EVO phone. One AOL account works fine, the other does not. Started a few days ago, prior to that both accounts were updating fine.

I just went into my AOL mail and deleted some old unread messages, and the link to my EVO phone started working again? The e-mails had some large attachements, perhaps that was causing an issue? Anyway, all is working again. See if this solves your problems as well.

Yea mine is the same way. I can send emails fine but the inbox gets the error. I went through each folder to see exactly what the problem is.

Inbox: Alert Network Error
Trash: Alert Network Error
Sent: Refreshes and works fine
Drafts: Refreshes and works fine
Outbox: Refreshes and works fine
Saved/Saved IMs: Refreshes and works fine
Spam: Refreshes and works fine

The problem is just with the inbox and trash.

I signed onto aol and deleted everything. Still the same thing. I restarted the phone and tried all that too.

I also redid the entire email setup manually with the info from aol. Here is what I found and did but it still made no difference. Here is the info if anyone is interested.

This is very frustrating but hopefully we can get it fixed. It seems to be more than just me since a bunch have been having this trouble too.

Ive been monitoring this forum like a ton of other people hoping there was a fix for aol. While checking other places, I came across an app that allows you to get your mail and ive been using it about a day and it works great. Its called k-9 mail and its free in the market. It was already configured for aol. All you have to do is put in your username and password and it configures the rest. I deleted the mail icon off my phone desktop and replaced it with the k-9 icon. Suitable replacement until this bug gets worked out. Hope this helps everyone.

Thanks. I may just do that. I use the Mail icon for my AOL and the Gmail icon for my gmail account. I am only using two email addresses so I may just switch to this app.

Over the night mine returned to service.:)

I am stilll having the issue. It now sometimes says Alert Login Failed as well as Alert Network Error. If you keep refreshing I now get one of those two. My login info is all right so I am not sure why this started.

I am having the same issue- network error. I have tried everything- deleting email, deleting then reinstalling account. I still have this error. I hope this resolves itself soon.

I'm having problem's receiving aol email on my evo also. I get the Alert: network failure when refreshing my inbox. I am still able to send an email. Also everything in my sent, draft, spam folders is still available. I'm wondering if everyone having this problem has recently installed the same app and that is the cause.
Here's a list of what I've installed recently:

Get altitude
GPS satus
Wifinder
Es task manager
Right here gps
Wifi connector library

Also having the same problem over the past week or so. I save my mail on AOL- have alot of folders set up. I'm wondering if it has something to do with that...

I really don't need all of that available on my phone but don't know how to exclude it. Does anyone understand the DAYs setting or the SIZE settings?

I downloaded K-9 mail and I get error: Setup could not finish
Cannot connect to server (Unable to open connection to SMTP server)

I have the same problem as everyone else. Was getting my emails fine on HTC EVO up until about three days ago. My wife and both have aol email. Her phone has continued to function fine. My, no! We have done everything everyone has mentioned. Nothing works. Have been to Sprint, saved contact list and reset to original setting, no. Have done everything. Except we did do something not mention by anyone here. My wife has a HTC EVO, getting her emails just fine. So, we added my account to her phone and we received the same messages; No networks, etc..... We put her information into my phone and boom! We have her emails coming up and everything is golden on my phone. So, the issue is not with the phones. I believe the issue is with AOL.
So, we have been looking at the account information. She and I have been with AOL from the beginning. really the only difference is that she is the or was and is still being as the "Master" account holder. My email was generated off her account, back in the days when we were paying. When you pull up her "Setting" after she logs in, right column, Other Mail Options Lots more ways to get your AOL mail towards the bottem, she has two options (POP3 and IMAP) and AOL Mail on your mobile phone. I have only one (AOL Mail on your mobile phone). If this is the real problem, the accounts setup, but seems like a good place for everyone to think about. Reason brought up, I read another blog somewhere else, where the individual stated that he was having problems, not getting his AOL mail all of a sudden. He has had his email ever since when his dad got them aol. Dad was still getting his email on his EVO, but he was not. Only stood to reason to me that maybe he was not the master account holder and his dad was, could this be the problem. Any thoughts from anyone? Thanks and hope this can be resolved.

I'm the master account holder on my account and I'm the one having the problems. I added my wife - who's a secondary on on my account - and her mail came in on my phone without any issues.

It seems if I delete my mail - or move it from my INBOX to a folder from my computer, then - once the inbox is empty, the mails will come in again. Then - after one or 2 emails, it will once again give me the error messages. Then I delete those couple and it frees it up again. It's getting annoying because we don't know when it's working and when it stops. As a temporary measure, I can go to the web on the phone and log into https://my.screenname.aol.com and that works. Go figure.

I wish they'd get this fixed. I'm w/ Verizon - and previous poster is w/ Sprint. I have an HTC Indredible. I agree- this problem has to be with AOL.

I just spoke with AOL Support and this IS NOT a problem with you or your phone. It is definitely and AOL issue and they are working on it. Definitely not the answer we were looking for but atleast we can quit playing with our phones now! :p

I'll let you know when I hear back from them.

Happy New Year all!

Thank you NMT1405! I called AOL and was told to call "my carrier". I called my carrier and HTC. Reset the phone all to no avail. I knew it was AOHELL!

ok at least we know it is on AOLs end now which is what i figured. I did log onto aol and see they have options for email and syncing it with your phone. I didnt feel like messing with it but if anyone else is more ambitious take a look. Not sure exactly what it does. This is the link.

AOL Sync

Last night at around 11:30 EST all of emails synced up and its back to normal. I guess it is something on AOLs side and all you can do is wait it out.

Fixed!!!
I went into settings and deleted my aol email account on my phone. I then re-created it but instead of the Imap protocol i used pop, did the manual setup but i didn't change anything else i just left everything else the default settings and whamo I now have my email back.

Pop is a different setting tho. I realize it may work, but it doesn't do the same thing as far as retain mail on the server. Thanks for posting tho. I haven't received the error message today, but I've been moving my messages to a folder as I receive them because that's what seemed to be causing the issue - having mail in the sitting in the inbox when i tried to retrieve new.

Just changed my IMAP to POP. It did work, however, only those emails that I hadn't received sinced the 29th of December showed up. Those that I had not received earilier are the only ones now seen!
