[All LTE models] Toggle 4g/3g

Ive been trying to toggle my 3g/4g data but havent found a quick and easy way to do it. I switched from 4g to 3g and Im stuck because i can't toggle back to 4g. Does anyone know of a way to toggle quickly between the two? thanks

Have you tried turning the radio off, then back on? I installed this app (just picked my S3 up 2 nights ago) and while I haven't left 4G coverge area yet, I played around with it and got stuck on 3G like you did. I turned the radio off and then back on (with it set to 4G) and got 4G service back without a problem!

I hope someone comes up with a quick-toggle to switch between 3G & 4G with 1-click widget (like the power control widgets available)...
 
Do you want it off all of the time or toggle back and forth?

On the Sprint version, you could go back and set it to only use the CDMA network and not CDMA/LTE.

It requires a restart, so it isn't necessarily an elegant on/off solution.

Interesting as the Galaxy Nexus doesn't require a restart.

You should be able to toggle it via Settings > Wireless & Networks (More...) > Mobile Networks > Network Mode

Let me know if that works.

No, guys, those options aren't there. So, can anyone turn it off from their phone?

Are you sure it's there, because I don't think it is there on the other US versions? If so, how do you do it. I know how to in theory, as this is my 3rd lte phone. But how do you ACTUALLY do it on the S3?

This doesn't seem to work for my AT&T GS3. I can get into Phone Info and see the various radio choices, but it doesn't let me select them.

I guess I don't care TOO much because it doesnt seem like LTE standby is killing my battery here in Chicago at least. And it is nice to have near instantaneous page surfing.....but would like the option to toggle it if I get into a real marginal LTE zone while travelling.
 
Once my i535 drops to 3G it takes a stronggg 4G signal to automatically pop back into 4G. I tried toggling airplane mode while in 3G and it temporarily gets back 4G for me when the LTE signal isn't that strong. The only other thing that worked was a reboot. Verizon has apparently acknowledged this or a similar 1X/3G/4G switching problem. I saw a guy over at xda forums say he had to exchange his S3, and the replacement arrived with an "updated" sticker. When he checked the info screen he said he had a new baseband version as well as an updated OS version. Has anyone else heard about replacement S3's and the alleged "updated" sticker?

My guess is that we'll be getting an OTA pretty soon that hopefully will correct the problem.
 
What it the justification for assuming that this issue is the same across all carriers? They have different radios and probably have their own specific logic for how the device falls back from LTE to some other protocol. This mashed together thread is a recipe for misinformation.

Same process on my Sprint GS3, but you definitely have to restart the phone afterwards. It says something along the lines of "Phone must reset for changes to take place" and when you press "Okay", it reboots.

I've only done it three times. 1st to see what it does. 2nd to switch back to CDMA only. 3rd to switch the LTE when Sprint launched it on the 15th.

I have the AT&T model and since they have a different apn for lte I just set up the 3g and lte and switch between them
 
I would just like to say that LTE sucks. Drains the hell out of my battery and I wish that someone would figure out how to turn the damn thing off.

Yes, I registered just to say this. :D
