Oooh well i think i can handle being stock the only think i woulf need is root to use directory bind lol

I'm kind of in the same boat. My first Android was the LG Optimus M. I had it rooted with custom recovery and was flashing roms with in a couple months. My next phone was (and still is) the Optimus M+. It is rooted and I have CWM custom recovery. However the only ROM for it is a stock debloated ROM. I haven't tried it, simply because I'm quite happy with my phone as is. I plan on getting the Spirit, and even if we don't get root/custom recovery, I will be happy and content with it. In my experience with the OM+, I have learned the only thing I really am using the root for is to have ROM Manager and Titanium Backup. If I don't have TiBu, oh well. I will just go to the Play store and re-download my apps.

Hello, all. I'm not sure if any of you know me around here (a.k.a ikarosdev), but I used to be very active in the prepaid Android community. I was a ROM developer for the Huawei Ascend (MetroPCS) and the Motorola Triumph (Virgin).

I, unfortunately, had to leave the Android scene for awhile for bunch a reasons (broken phone, time constraints, etc.) and ended up leaving Android all-together. I moved on to a bunch of different phone OSes, but was never satisfied. I used WebOS for awhile, but that platform is deader than dead. I ended up switching to Windows Phone, but literally wanted to field goal kick that phone into outer space.

Long story, short. I picked up an LG Spirit yesterday and I'm loving the phone (I'm really impressed with how far MetroPCS has come). I don't have any time for development, but I hope I can help out in any way I can. I attempted to figure out a solution for root, but was not able to find an usable exploit.

Concerning the LG Motion root method: I don't know how it could work. The apk that you install (LG_systembackuptest) is looking for a particular process that doesn't seem to exist on our phones (com.spritemobile.system.backup). This is probably why the app force closes upon opening. If I'm wrong, please someone correct me. I tried manually moving the su binary and superuser.apk files via ADB, but couldn't mount the root filesystem for read/write access. FWIW, here's the source code for the LG_systembackuptest (in Java):
[Java] IS11LG_SystemBackupTest source code - Pastebin.com

If we can exploit something else, we can adjust the source code and build a new apk just for our phones. Once again, I couldn't find the process, but I (admittedly) have been gone from the Android game so long that I'm rusty now.

EDIT: I should also mention I tried this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 and also tried SuperOneClick v2.3.3 to no avail.

naw right now everyone's getting taxes back, so they will spend the money on the phone that is perceived as being the best on the market. My cousins mom just got her taxes back and all of them went to get the s3. Even after playing around with my Spirit. The Media tells them the SGS3 is the best phone, so that's what they buy. Like the apple fan boys:rolleyes:

the difference is no sgs3 owners are over here justifying their purchase. they are too busy flashing roms/mods. the only people i ever see seeing talk about how their phone is much better is people who dont have the sgs3.

You guys were not close at all sorry to burst any bubbles but lg do keep tabs on exploits to unlock bootloader they lock for certain carriers. Also what defines a great phone is personal preference, for example some might just want a bigger display phone or perhaps tired of a single core phone. So when users like me say the best phone on metro's line up is the gs3 that's a fact don't ya dare dispute me!!! Lol jk but yea if ya just want a stock phone without much options in terms of roms kernel mods tweaks then ok the spirit and the motion are really good phones in that category. But in our gs3 subforum haha its another jungle with more roms/kernels mods and tweaks than most of ya seen in ya lifetime. And just for that I would never ever!!!!! Trade my gs3 for a lg device!!!!!

lets not start a phone war. I wasn't saying the gs3 wasn't good. I was knocking apple lol:p

I could have had the gs3, but found it laggy so i went with the spirit. should find out people info before you go knocking them.

Thanks for joining our little community here. I don't have a Spirit yet, but will be getting one. I look forward to seeing what you can bring forth with your spare time. I understand the lack of time (I work 2 jobs and have family so really have 3 jobs) though, so fully understand if you don't have time to develop for the Spirit.

Edit: Oh, and it's good to see someone else from the Dallas area. I live in Garland myself, but travel to Irving for one of my jobs.

you implied it :P

"the media tells them the sgs3 is teh best so they buy it like an apple fan boy "

would imply you didnt think the sgs3 is all that grand :P

No, that's what you read it as, that's not what i was saying. MY words are meant as a knock on people allowing media to make their choices for them. I wasn't saying any phone was better or worst than any other one. I apologize that you took it that way.

My example was; my cousins have never used a galaxy s3, but yet believe it to be the best phone ever because its what they have been brainwashed into by media and promotion, Like apple has done.:D

Hope that clarifies it. Everyone has to choose for them selves what they like... For me when I use the GS3, I felt it wasn't what i was looking for. When I tried the Spirit for the most part it was more to my liking. It's like cars, everyone has a car they like, but to someone else that car may not fit them. ;)

In the words of Rodney King: CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG...! BRO HUG:p

I can't tell people not to get a specific phone especially when it's their money :p also a phone I bought and owned for a time period lol I have nothing negative to say about that phone and your right people should make up their own mind in what phone they personally would like instead of following a fad... But if they want a friendly suggestion based on facts than rather opinions the gs3 is in a league of its own I advice each and one of you guys that are in the process of deciding which phone to buy to compare phones around don't just go for how many people says a phone is the best. Simple way to compare pro and cons is to try to figure out what is it do you really want in a phone, make it personal, are you a mobile gamer do you really multi-task in a phone like multiple open apps? Are you a customization addict? Do u want the latest roms kernels mods and tweaks? Or your fine with just a stock phone? But yea I think ya get the idea and oh visit the subforum for each phone and see how active they are even if your just planning to keep your phone stock a community support for any reason is a great asset!
