All Things Froyo

Yesterday @ AT&T store I spoke to few persons which were talking about almost same date (April/May). After that I have small "conversation" on Twitter:

"@GalaxySsupport Also I was today @ AT&T store and they told me that Froyo will come 2-3 months from now due to issues. It is a long delay."

@_scyzor Thanks Adam. We have not been informed of this timeline. ^Mary

@GalaxySsupport so why AT&T sale persons are talking about that delay time range? Does Samsung cuts off from that statement?

and no response on that

All you'll get is a copy/paste response that they've been posting for the last few months.

Samsung is awful.

Every custom rom I flashed is unstable on my phone. I have to stick with eclair for now and either wait for froyou or get a new phone.

Finally I have got an answer for my last question:

@_scyzor We unfortunately have not been provided those details and we have no other information to share. ^Mary

IMO if AT&T expect to have rolling out Froyo during next 2-3 months it means that they had Froyo before but gave back to Samsung to fix "issues", but looks like Samsung has problems to fix "issues" so they can't say that Froyo will be soon (aka just right behind the corner) or not at all (they stopped to use that phrase).

Unstable in what way? I've had zero problems with stability with the ROMs I've used (Assonance and now Serendipity, both from the same developer.....I chose well).

In a middle of a call, I would hear a popping noise from inside the phone and the call is dropped. I flashed cog 3.04 yesterday and I have to wait and see. Maybe my issue was when I restored with TiBu, I kept restoring system data and the custom room didnt like it. Last night, I only restored missing apps and contacts. Hopefully that fixes it.

I'm running Cog3.04 with no issues whatsoever. I'd bet that restoring the system files was the problem - just restore the apps and missing data only.

I think your right. I was on Cog 3.04 yesterday and just restored user apps. I made a call over an hour and a half with no issues. I flashed a different rom last night and will do the same thing. Ill test it out later today.

I was at AT&T yesterday and that is exactly what they told me was going to happen. Not sure what to believe.

AT&T will tell you whatever you need to hear to be happy and get off the phone or out of the store once you've started to try their patience.

I got sick of waiting for AT&T/Samsung to get their crap together for my FroYo upgrade. It's ridiculous. And since my six month warranty is finally up, its enough for me to ease my paranoia and make the transition to rooting and flashing a ROM (besides that, the techie in me has been itching to get down to the nuts and bolts on this thing).

My question is what ROMs do you guys most highly recommend or prefer? Which developers should I favor or avoid as far as ROMs. I need something that is perfectly stable. Also, any idea when we can expect a stable gingerbread ROM to be available, or are we gonna have to wait for the European Galaxy S's to get it before we'll get a modified ROM that will be close to stability?

I wonder if Samsung can regain much of their reputation in the US if it ends up releasing gingerbread to US carriers this month or next.

I'm very happy with Serendipity, excellent, responsive developer, nice features and his theming isn't over the top. GPS works well, too.

Samsung will have to do something as dramatic as skip direct to Gingerbread to recapture any credibility - they have thoroughly trashed whatever consumer trust they had (and yes - ATT is not without blame). Not that they care, but in my last "inquiry" sent to Samsung, I listed my recent consumer electronic purchases over the last few months -
New washer and dryer = LG
New flat screen = Vizio
New blue ray DVD = Panasonic
Was Samsung even considered - NO
Future purchases - anything but Samsung

BTW, I finally got a Captivate that works acceptably (acceptable being relative to Samsung/Cappie laundry list of woes) -
Do any of you find yourself telling others that admire the beautiful AMOLED and the wizbang apps - "Yes, there is a lot I like about this phone - but I could never recommend it".
