All Things Froyo

Slow as hell starting up the first time, so I pulled the battery. The thing froze up on the first reboot but then loaded when I pulled the batter a second time, and faster than before. I'm talking the phone went from off to functional in about 45 seconds! :D
Also, has anyone else's phone been vibrating on startup several times? mine seems to have developed that little quirk after the update, not sure what it means though. It vibrates once when the swipe to unlock screen appears, then pulses three times when the wallpaper loads. Weird, and it also vibrates when it finishes powering down. I wonder if that is by design?

Would you provide an example of where you're experiencing lag?

It's actually not as bad after I restarted again. Market was all screwed up, so I restarted and things seem to be a little better and market sees all my downloads again.

But anyway, I was talking about opening anything up, apps, even switching between apps list and home screen.

my root no longer works. didn't lose any data...

but GPS STILL DOESN"T WORK!!!!!

ARGH, i'll give them a couple more days to see what happens them im going to a custom ROM.

If you look closely while it was updating, you would have noticed it cleared all cache data. The phone needs to rebuild all this data, so the first time you access anything it may be slow, but it'll speed up ;)

yea ATT says it will be live when posted on www.facebook.com/att keep an eye there for the "official" link; it wll be funny if it does not happen.

3 times I clicked that link and 3 times it took me to some phishing website claiming to be giving away $1000 gift cards to walmart...

I'm seeing it also.

Yeah, Wtf is up with that?

Type the url in manually, it works then.

I fixed the URL, I don't think it was intentional.

Just in case anyone was interested with flash 10.1 installed youtube works well in the full site on 360p or lower. 480p makes it lag a bit, but that's understandable with only a 1GHz processor.

Update successful. A new app called ""Gallaxy S Support", Samsung Media Hub now active. Launcher Pro EX works OK, had to reload my widgets. All my other apps were there. Photos, videos, music all there. Contacts with photos all there. Haven't checked GPS accuracy/respose yet.

Overall, painless update. No bugs found yet. :)

I haven't gone outside yet but my GPS was able to lock indoors. That's good considering it never used to be able to lock outdoors unless the sky was perfectly clear, so before if it was overcast or even partly cloudy I would get spotty GPS accuracy at best.

Also another interesting note, at least for me it appears the battery is not draining like it used to. I've been using the phone for about 25 minutes now and including three reboots I've only lost 5% on the battery. That's much better than my previous when I used to lose as much as 1% every minute.

I followed the software upgrade instruction word for word but having problems booting up the phone. When I power on, I can get past the Galaxy S logo but then it goes to a blank screen. The screen never comes on after that. The phone does not respond in any way except the 4 touch buttons are responsive but slow (approx. 10-15 second delay). Any way to power up in "safe" mode or do you think performing a "factory reset" will do anything?

Man, I'm really champing at the bit now. I was going to wait until this weekend, but I may have to try to upgrade it tonight (once I figure out what to do about a backup)

Yep, mine does that too!

If all else fails, try pulling the battery first. That worked for me.

Just updated to 2.2 on the captivate, no problems updating, time will tell how this update works out.....have a good day everyone, time to golf!

Is Flash automatically downloaded in the Froyo update or do you need to download it manually from the market?

Thanks.

I downloaded it manually, it's on the market for free.

Even with flash installed and with the phone loading full flash ads, web pages still load lightning fast, I was able to load the androidforums home page in under 14 seconds on wifi, that's a record for me :D

Also I was able to use the update all button in the market without having to leave the phone alone for ten minutes, it's still usable even when downloading 19 updates!
