Samsung execs, step right this way:

hahahahaha! Very good. :)

Are they ever going to release an official fix?

I read all the people ticked off at Samsung about the Behold II and everyone said that can't happen here because of such a widespead release of the Galaxy S, but this isn't looking good at all.

Samsung/TMobile is so far behind everyone else at this point with updates.

If there is a GPS update in Oct and it doesn't include 2.2 (which there's never been a rumor that it will), then when 2.2? This year even!?

All of the other new "super" phones already have 2.2. To take 2 or more months longer than everyone else to deliver is really unacceptable.

There's a new OS build for the Vibrant out, JI5.

JI5 via Kies !! - xda-developers

There were improvements to the GPS in JI2, so perhaps this is our update?

Read the thread for tips on using Kies (must use the stock launcher while using Kies for example) and getting the phone into Kies mode.

Thanks to masterotaku for bringing the update to light.

Honestly, I don't mind that the GPS takes long to lock or whatever the terminology for it is. What aggravates me is that 90% of the time GPS will make my phone completely freeze, whether it's Maps or the browser.

Did JI5 fix your GPS?

sorry I forgot to include the Poll the first time.

btw...make sure to have "use wireless networks" off when testing GPS.

Reports on xda have indicated, overall, great improvement over what we got to begin with.

This update adds a few new features as well...HD camcorder, task manager, pinch to zoom in Gallery...few other things I can't recall offhand.

did you install it? wonder what the poll results will be.

Oh and I am running JI5 right now with 11 sats in view with 10 in use sitting inside my house.

Oh and I am running JI5 right now with 11 sats in view with 10 in use sitting inside my house.

And people say GPS doesn't work indoors, ha! I kept saying over and over my HTC phone GPS works indoors, even standalone GPS units work inside my house. Good to know now Vibrant does also!

Answer:
Nope, as a matter of fact my phone does some new tricks:

-Boots up to the "S" galaxy screen where it'll sit there forever

then

- Goes to black.

If you touch the buttons on the bottom, "menu, home, search etc.." they light up and stay that way. Been like this for about 2 hours now. I have restarted the phone multiple times now and I get the same thing. Booted into recovery mode, same thing. So to make sure it wasn't completely bricked, I shut it down and plugged it into the computer to test the charge. HEY! Green battery! Bonus, it just hit 100% charge. So now I have this $400 paperweight sitting here. From what I hear those that have done the JI5 update have incredible GPS services now. I would be happy to make a call.

If anyone have any ideas?

Regards,
A:confused::mad:

If I am upstairs I can get a lock pretty much anywhere but downstairs I have to be near a window.

Are you familiar with ODIN? Some people have been able to use that to upgrade. You can download the .zip file and extract the .tar file inside and use that in ODIN. I've not done it, but I've read posts from people that have.

tmpAFCF.tmp.zip - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

Thanks, I am aware of the term ODIN, however I have only glossed over any posts about it I've seen in root forums. If that's the the best route to take, I'll read up on how to do it. Thanks again.

How close to a window are you? and are you using Mobile network?

Hard to believe the gps receiver is getting a Sat signal indoors.
Gps signals doo not pass through water, wood or most Solid objects.

They must be using s/w to fool the gps while it is indoors.

I get GPS signal on my HTC phone indoors in a pretty big house with no problems. I can get 10 in use sats with 12 in view indoors.
I also can use my standalone GPS units indoors.
