So...it just resets your values to default. It assumes that you've messed up your GPS by changing settings. Why would you change your settings in the first place if your GPS worked? I do think this tool could come in handy for people who want to start with a fresh plate (I'm sure some people have messed with their settings too much) but this is NOT a fix. This "FAQ" implies that your GPS problems are caused by you trying to fix your GPS problems...mmmmmkay

Yes. It works.

I have GPS issues ever since I got the phone. Even after OTA update and a hard reset, the problem persists. I tried the quick fixes many times. Still no luck. I can't even see a single satellite in 10 mins.

Finally, it turned out to be the settings. I should disable Security Connection in SUPL config when switching to google server. After fixing it, the GPS works like magic. In GPS Test, I can see 5+ satellites within 10 seconds and lock within 20s (in door).

Just remember to enable Wireless GPS + GPS and reboot. Sometimes, GPS is not working because of weird issues. It goes away after restart.

Ok guys, I think i figured it out!

My GPS was not working before (inaccurate to about 250 meters) so i was very excited for the update. I applied it and there was still no difference. BUT I remember using a simple 5 step guide to make the gps more accurate and lock faster BEFORE I applied the update. Those steps are here:Quick fix for GPS issues on your new Samsung Galaxy S series phone | Android Central

So I decided to change the setting back to the original stock settings when I first got the phone. I did that, and it WORKED!!!!!!
Note, that on the guide it says you must type in a number to access the settings. You can no long do that after the update. You CAN however access them through a shortcut app. I used ANY CUT (available in marketplace). Just open Any Cut, click "new shortcut", go to "Activity", then scroll to "LbsTestMode" and click it. the shortcut will be added to your home screen. The guide I linked to gives you the steps on how to change to stock settings.

Good luck!

P.S. Let us know if it works!

Search for "GPS Restore" published by Samsung Mobile. Their facebook lists the wrong app name. They can't even get that right.

I found it, will update in a second. People are still whining in the comments.

Previously, I would turn on GPS, start up GPS Test and start. In 10 seconds I could lock several satellites. Then I would go to GPS Status to see the satellites there and verify it working.

I installed the update and turned on GPS. When I started up GPS Test, it was already showing satellites. GPS Status showed the same number of dots/satellites on the screen.

Well, if I go outside, take the Bodyglove case off, and hold the phone upright (versus "face up"), I can get levels after a few minutes in the GPS Test app in the 30s, but not above 40.

If I have the case on, hold it any other way, or am in the car, all bets are off whether it'll lock onto anything at all.

This is about what I remember getting back before I gave up on GPS with this phone entirely and stopped paying attention. Considering I never messed with my GPS settings from the defaults, this doesn't surprise me.

What are other people seeing for levels/performance?

From engadget.com:

...we don't quite understand how "restoring" a screwed-up GPS to its original screwed-up state is doing any good...

Ran the app and this is what happened

"Settings restored Done"
".....Getting Location......"
"GPS Started Done"
"Position fix fail"

"Please move to open sky and try again"

It enables wireless, which means it isn't using the GPS chip entirely, it requires data usage, for those who are on limited plans this isn't acceptable. I'll play with it tomorrow when I have a free moment, but I'm underwhelmed.

hey everyone i have some good news! i just read on engadget that samsung released a "gps restore" app in the market, and i just downloaded it and it worked marvels. before i wouldnt even get a lock on my phone and after i downloaded the app and ran it my gps works amazing.
all you have to do is search the market for "gps restore" and the maker will be samsung, and after you download just run it and your gps should work.

cheers and good luck hopefully it will work for everyone like it did for me

I have a case on my phone, can gladly say I'm not having the same bad luck everyone else has.

I ran it and my phone floated out of my hand and shot up into space. Hopefully with such close proximity to the GPS satellites it will work better, just not sure about reading it from down here.

Translation: "I never should've screwed around with my GPS settings to begin with!"

;)

All this app does is revert your GPS settings back to what they were when you originally got your phone.

i still cant find it on the market

searching for gps restore or gps samsung

any ideas?

onlythought i have is that maybe its unavailable overseas ( I am in europe now)

??

I won't mess with this. Crazy enough my GPS has worked fine out of the box with the exception of a long lock time. After changes the agps server to google, I'm good to go. I imagine this would change it back to that non existent spirent thing
