Allshare Cast Dongle

I was actually successful in streaming both audio and video on both my AppleTV and my 360. I just couldn't figure out how to mirror the phone on my TV. doubleTwist detected my Xbox on the wireless network and nearly automatically streamed to it, so that was actually pretty neat. I'm sure I'll figure the mirroring out eventually. I'm brand new to Android so I have MUCH to learn!

You can't mirror the display wireless without the Allshare Cast Dongle (also shown in the video above). Media can be streamed a number of ways though of course.

i have a external drive full of 1080p movies i want to stream from my phone to my tv using the allshare hub i just got is there any way for this to happen?

Is it possible to use allshare without a hub from samsung?
I have a wireless LG TV and I used to be able to display media on my tv wirelessly with my Galaxy S2.

Yeah my TV is that. Maybe I need to look more into it. I can play movies wirelessly from my Pc upstairs to my TV downstairs and my Note conects to the wifi just fine, must be something I'm missing.

Hi everyone, i was seriously thinking to get that hub, mainly for my presentations, but now am having doubts about it, does the connection get lost? is it suitable for such use? or i just go get the cable instead.
Thanks

Wrong. Allshare Cast has jackshit to do with Allshare or DLNA.

Think of Allshare Cast as plugging your phone into your TV via HDMI/MHL... except in this case it's wireless with low quality audio.

Well I have a Samsung TV (no AllShare dongle), and I was trying to use the AllShare app, but it doesn't seem to do anything other than trying to connect to my PC on the Wifi network. So I look thru the Note II manual and it says to just use the external out button on the Gallery and it will detect any available DLNA device on my wifi network and output there. Sure enough, I just do that the video and picture just pop up on my TV without me doing anything. I have not tried it on a non-Samsung TV yet though.

It's actually great for this purpose as long as you aren't trying to use it for high quality audio streaming. The audio is fine for spoken word or background music. The display is perfect.

I have a recent model Sammy as well and again, Allshare is not AllShare Cast. None of the Sammy TVs are using Allshare Cast currently... they would need a software update. You are using DLNA, which is not how Allshare Cast works. This is why I purchased the dongle... I didn't want to wait.

Yes, the ease of using DLNA/Allshare between Sammy phones and TVs is great! It is not Allshare Cast though. When you are seeing an exact mirror of whatever is on your phone screen at all times on your TV while connected wirelessly...then you are using AllShare Cast.

Ah I see. Yeah I can only do video and picture.

DLNA is handy though if you just want to show a few pictures. Video seems to be slow, every 10 sec or so it will need to buffer. And if you shoot the video vertically it will display it side way on the TV. Picture is okay, but there is a 1 to 2 second delay to switch to next picture.

Yup, same experience here with DLNA.... lots of buffering for video and sideways displaying of videos shot in portrait. Allshare Cast solves the latter.

It's a great tool! I was just disappointed that the audio is not high quality. Audio will even continue to play when your screen shuts off with the TV display following suit by going black. It would be so nice if the audio streamed in high quality... as it is it is best for background music.

Okay that sounds good and what about the issue of connectivity?
also i might be drowing on the snote sketch idea for explanations, also will work fine?

The issue of connectivity? I haven't had any issues with it. It's very stable and constant.

I am going on using it with a GS3, but anything on your phone screen should appear on the TV display. So that means any drawing you do using the S Pen will appear the same on the TV Display.

It really is essentially wireless HDMI Out/MHL.

Well... this thread definitely needs to be revisted. Samsung released a firmware upgrade for the Allshare Cast Dongle last week that is downloaded through the Play Store and then uploaded to the dongle upon connecting with your phone. I also am now a proud Verizon Galaxy Note II owner.

I can't say for sure what the update did... but I do have to retract everything I said in regards to the audio quality. The audio is awesome when connected with the Note II! I no longer feel let down by the dongle purchase! It lets me use it exactly the way I wanted to.

I do have to mention that while the sound also improved for use with the GS III, it does not output the same quality as the Note. Perhaps the processing power difference between the two phones is the factor.

For Note II owners... I can't recommend the dongle enough. You can sit around waiting for an update for your Sammy TV to use Allshare Cast dongle-free that may never happen or you can enjoy it now with the option to turn off the TV and just listen with the dongle connected to an AV Receiver (as I do.)

Thank you so much for the updates, and i am just waiting to get mine since i placed an order based on your previous comment, and to be frank i was even sure that the sound quality will be good since i did research on that item
Cheers

One correction... with my set up the connection to the dongle is cut when turning the TV off. So it does need to stay on even for audio only, but will go black with your phone screen off anyway.

You will be happy with it..... it just makes a truly awesome phone that much more awesome!

There is a firmware upgrade out for the Allshare Cast BTW, or at least there was for mine. Go into "all apps" in the my apps section in the Play Store and you'll see an update for the Allshare app, install that update and then when you next try to connect to the dongle it'll do the update. Strangely I never got notified about the app update on the Play Store.

Hello,

I am new to ANdroid and I have couple of questions, I know you can mirror your screen to TV by using MHL HDMI cable and it is also clear that you can use Allshare cast dongle over wifi to mirror screen to your TV.

My question is which one is fast and has no video or sound quality loss.

Another question:

I have seen a lot of USB sized HDMI DONGLE ANDROID 4.0 which makes your normal TV to a smart TV, with that dongle can I mirror my Note 2 to TV or that is not possible.

Please let me know
Thanks
Vishal
