Root Alpharev S-OFF failed, phone wont boot. Please help!!!

PLEASE HELP I THINK IVE KILLED IT!!!

Phone is:

BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051D
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
AUG 10 2010, 17:52:18

It was rooted & running starburst rom with data2sd

I just tried to get it S-OFF by using alpharev & vm method. see here: xda-developers - View Single Post - [TUTORIAL] How to S-OFF your HTC Desire

I got to step 3 and left it over an hour, on another page it says after an hour pull the battery so i did...

Now i got nothing, it goes to the white screen and i can select bootloader. Then fastboot/HBOOT does not work. I can access clockwork recovery but when i mount as usb windows says that the device has malfunctioned.

Have i totally broken this and should i just smash it up now or is there anything i can do??

Thanks!!

I'm guessing you didn't do a Nandroid before attempting it? If you did then just restore it.

Or you can try flashing a RUU to your phone and start from square 1.

ok slow down,
how did you do s-off? via CD or via virtual host?
you say hboot/fastboot doesnt work. please elaborate how you have confirmed this?
did you make a backup?
do you have a goldcard?
what carrier is this from?

if you can boot to bootloader and boot to recovery im pretty sure youll be able to boot to fastboot and use the fastboot commands. it could be a driver issue

as for device malfunctioning, could be a usb brick or we might need to reflash recovery however we need to determine if your fastboot is "ACTUALLY" broken

Thanks for all the responses so far guys i really appreciate it.

Ok to confirm fastboot appears to work although i didn't know about this method until very early this morning..

C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>fastboot devices
SH0CJPL08263 fastboot

I have try to push some files to the device but it was giving errors and i think it was due to the files coming from a custom ROM though.

Tried to S-OFF by using virtual host (VMWare Player)

I dont have a goldcard, i didnt think these were used anymore now unrevoked tool was out?

I didn't take a nandroid backup but i do have one from before i rooted the phone (the clockwork folder). I can't mound the the phone as USB device though it just comes up as unrecognised..

When im at the white menu it just switches from fastboot to hboot if i select either one..

*Also to note i cannot format the sd-card on the phone

Formatting SDCARD:...
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0p1)
(No such file or directory)
Error mounting /sdcard//!
Skipping format
Done.

Formatting SDEXT:...
No apps2sd psrtition found, skipping format of /sd-ext.
Done.

I also tried formatting the card on my computer last night to at least see if i could get the computer to recognise it while it was plugged into the phone afterwards, but i think this might have actually caused more issues.

The phone is from Vodafone and does not appear to be braded.

With regards to the RUU is this maybe the way to go? Im reluctant to do anymore off my own back because i dont want to make it any worse if its still recoverable!

I wrote this down when i first got the phone:

Android 2.2
Baseband 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.15-g2633d94 htc kernel@and18-2#1
Build: 2.33.161.2 CL284385 release-keys
Software 2.33.161.2
Browser webkit 3.1

Can you tell what RUU to use from that?

Any help appreciated guys!

hmm does dound like a usb brick
should be able to flash misc with a working one from vodaphone (new alpharev supports misc flashing

find out your CID by booting to fastboot and using "fastboot oem boot"
you should get a load of stuff on cmd. look for CID IS

once done put the info in here Desire mtd0.img creator

rename the file to misc.img and put it in the sdk folder

then

fastboot flash misc misc.img

should be able to fix usb from that

I had to get the ROM from the RUU and put it on my old memory card and now the phones is working again.

Thanks for the replies, im going to try again now so might be back in a bit with a non responsive phone again! :)

If you're 100% stock, you need to:

1. root with unrEVOked
2. S-OFF with AlphaRev (personally I recommend booting from a CD as opposed to a VM)
3. Flash a custom ROM (or restore nandroid if you have one)

Actually i just plugged my class 6 card back in and the phone cant see it, although if i put the ROM on it the phone finds it??

Any ideas whats happening?

I have tried formatting it to fat32 in windows but no difference..

& when i try to boot into recovery it just shows a red triangle with an exclamation mark.

Tried to run unrevoked but i cant enable usb debugging and don't have an option for disk mode now?

That red triangle is normal on a stock desire.

You're going to have to go into the SD card and storage menu, see if you can mount the card in there.

What happens when you try to enable usb debugging?

Edit> Please be aware that "I cant..." doesnt tell us anything. for all we know the reason you cant do it is because a dog bit off all your fingers and you now realise your nose is just not accurate enough ;)

In SD/Storage

Total Space: Unavaliable
Mount SD & Format SD both greyed out???

Only option i have is to factory reset the phone...

Under 'connect to pc' i only have default connection type & the ask me option..

(options for connection type are charge, htc sync & usb tether)

Put SD card into PC using a card reader and see if it's visible - if so then there's something else a-foot

I can see it when its in a reader, found this:

[USB-BRICK] All you need to know about USB-Bricks - xda-developers

I ran this command 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' and now the SD card is working.

Im going to put that update on as well just to be safe i think!

thats in the usb brick fix guide but its not perm afaik it just enables it temporarily as usb is broked due to a corrupt misc

if you had done what i had said with s-off flashing misc it would have fixed the issue :/

Ah right, no i never had S-OFF the process failed and then when i powered the device back on it was still S-ON.. i didnt make that part very clear :-)
