Root alpharev

Hi, i would like to s-off my desire using alpharev. Yes i have been reading up on it and understand you burn the iso image and boot the pc with it, but what does the process actually involve? Is it more or less a straight forward process like unrevocked where you just let it do it's own thing or much more?

Can't remember. I always have debugging on anyway.

Its really dead simple. I don't think it needs it because most of the work is done when you're not booted in the rom (unlike rooting).

Putting it on cant hurt though

Hi, been a while i know, have just run alpharev 1.8, it says success and flashing new bootblock followed by ok. Has it finished? Has been like that for last hour? Obviously don't want to pull battery yet, just need some advice.

best to go on the alpharev irc and see if they can help
it should of hung, what method did you use cd/usb/virtual?

Are you sure its not

OK?

and its merely waiting a response?

yep, was cd method. Pulled battery in the end had worked. Just can't boot into rom now only fastboot, any pointers?

cheers, but still no joy, sorted it with a nandroid backup tho. Still got s-off. Need some fastboot lessons now. lol

as i said above :P

there are some good fastboot commands and better for flashing recoveries and radio etc
just make sure you do a md5 check on anything you flash via fastboot or you will end up with phone death if its corrupted

thanks rastaman, always do my md5 checks, and lots of reading up on things before i take the plunge. Thanks again.

Dan, could you do a basic guide to how fastboot works, from what i have googled it seems like you run things from command lines is this correct? and is one area i have always been lacking. Now i have s-off i would like to learn more, like many others. Thanks again.

It is command line, like adb but I am not familiar with the commands, which is why I use that app :(

What sort of image? Just use the flashing utility rastaman posted. Its self explanatory.

connect phone in fastboot mode, run app on PC, select what you are flashing (rAdio, recovery, Splash, hboot) then browse to the file and press ok.
