They actually do! Google sycncs your contacts (caladar and apps) to your gmail account. If you log into your account and find your contact list, it'll have all of your phone contacts and you can edit from there, save, and your phone has the new edited contacts.
They do, but I think what the previous poster is talking about is if all of your contacts are not stored in the phone as Google contacts. Mine are just stored as regular phone contacts and after searching on here it seems the only way to have them as Google contacts as to export them to the SD card, then re-import them as Google contacts, which is, I believe, what Eris Ed was referring to. It should be easier to just convert a contact to a Google contact via the edit contact screen.

Another vote for no real problems, bar the battery life. But then again I do like to listen to music, and surf or play games at the same time. Don't know why htc doesn't make an extended battery for it with a replacement back. I know others do but htc seems to know how to make batteries that actually have their stated charge.

Have had the odd crash, but then again it's no worse than any other computer i've owned

Correct :D

I added the first 6 contacts manually and chose Google Contact when I saved them (not knowing exactly why at the time!). All the others were added manually as Phone contacts, or imported from another phone by Bluetooth where the option to save as Google contacts wasn't available.

I had an LG Viewty before the rather wonderful Desire came into my life and I'd all but drain the battery in day's worth of surfing, calls/texts and use of the odd game/'app'. I could just about get through two days on the rare occasions I forgot to stick it on to charge overnight, but it was always dicey.

My point? I'm getting a similar amount of use between charges with the Desire and I really don't need to point out how much more I'm getting from the phone. No issues here, not even the battery life :)

Other than the battery I've not got a problem with the device. After 10 years with Nokia's the Desire is a breath of fresh air, as is Android as a whole. Where as Nokia had a "we've done this, you better like it" attitude, Android/HTC is more like "If you don't like it, just change it" mentality!

I have had my Desire for almost one month since I brought it back home after three week long research on the web. The one and only problem bothering me is the battery life that certainly lasts less than one day and a half. I basically have a couple of calls a day and less than one hour game playing.

Considering that the smartphone itself is a killer of the battery life, I would play down this problem as the 2.2 will get rid of it when it's released.

I love my phone. My battery lasts usually for a day, but I always carry a mobile charger should an MSN convo get long.

Only real problem is the SD Card permission thingy, but I reckon a reformat will do. I just haven't gotten around to back up my files yet, so it's up to me when it's fixed.

Couldn't be happier. It would be nice if the battery lasted longer but try playing a 2hr movie on any device with a battery the size of the desire and the majority of your battery will have gone. It's a fact of life that large bright screens and data connections kill battery life.

As Beardyweirdy and Nacatomi have said, I find the battery life to be about what I'd expect from a smartphone. Ever since I had my N95 I've just gotten used to sticking it on charge when I go to bed. If you think of the Desire as being more like a mini computer than a phone, the battery's really not that bad.

Had my Desire for about 3 weeks now. I charge it for about 2 hours in the afternoon at work and the same in the evening, and the reported battery level never seems to drop below about 40% even with 3G/3G+ always on and updates every 4 hours, plus Wi-Fi at home after work. I've got used to topping up the battery regularly and now it's part of my daily routine.

I didn't really have a problem with battery life until this morning, played two hours of hotel mogul whilst waiting around and battery went from full to ten percent!!!!

Two solid hours with the screen on constantly probably on high brightness, with a CPU intensive task running. What exactly were you expecting? It's powered by a battery, not magic. :p

The only problem I've really had is the signal sometimes suddenly disappearing. Other than that everything works fine.

No problems here in the past 2 and half months, monitor all my downloaded apps and reject any that don't fall off the running services list into the background properly, have my far right home screen dedicated to power management, can take 40-50 photos, an hours worth of video, upload it all to Facebook (WiFi on 50MB Connection), listen to anything from an hour to an hour and a half of music, make around an hours worth of calls on and off throughout the day, play on my emulators for half an hour, checkout an episode of mock the week, and manage from unplugging the phone at 5am to plugging it back in with around 10-14% battery life at 11pm. All stock and no root/custom ROM.

OF COURSE I AM HAPPY!!!!

(Only gripe is toward the end of the day my keyboard can get a little laggy but...me? Complain? Seriously?)

Hi all
Interesting thread. Nacatomi, I have had my phone about the same time as you from what you say and unfortunately i have the oposite opinion of this phone. It has been back twice for repair. Once to Vodafone and now HTC. They have had it over two weeks and now tell me that they are waiting for parts of all things!!!!

One of the many complaints was the quality of the speaker which I cannot see them correcting as I really do think it is a design problem more that mechanical/software. I have gone back to my faithful Nokia N95 8gb in the meantime. It works everytime and I don't find myself making a call I don't want either. Frankly, if when, when I eventually get it back, if it hasn't been sorted, and I doubt it can be, I will be putting it on ebay and give HTC a wide wide berth in future.

Good luck with the your phone anyway.

Regards

Well if HTC won't be able to fix it, you can ask them to give you a refurbish phone that might not have that issue. I don't think there's any harm trying that.

Thats unfortunate, seems like you have been very unlucky... If you do end up getting rid I hope you have better luck with your next phone. From my previous experiences try and stay away from LG. The Viewty was the worst phone I have ever owned\seen\been near and dont even think about software updates :(

nacatomi - At the moment, I must say that I think the same way about HTC as you do about LG. I have also been reading the thread about the back cover on the desire. The back cover on mine is also like this. I forgot to ask them about that amongst all the other things. I wonder if they will spot it and sort it for me???

I will wait until I get it back ( when is in the lap of the Gods!!)and strart using it before I finally decide if I boot it out or not.

Regards

Mine totally crashed and has now been in for repair for over 2 weeks waiting on a part direct from HTC the main board of the fone has gone I cant see why they didnt just give me a replacement phone I am missing my HTC Desire :D
