seems like im seeing a lot of people struggling to get this update.
as far as ive seen its a bloatware update and a sync issue update....neither of which am i interested in.
also from what ive read it is only a patch, possibly causing more issues for rooted/custom rom runners with dealing with getting updated.

can someone WITH A CLUE elaborate on the statements i just made and to their correct/false ness or explain what is in this update that i should care to do it?

The only reason I see to take the update is because all the new roms and themes will be based on it.

Might as well have your phone on the latest OFFICIAL version.

I believe the battery FC's were also addressed along with improved corp (exchange) email changes.

I think my battery life improved even more (and I don't have a battery issue).

Actually, I think this was an excellent update. My phone is smoother, more responsive, the battery manager FC is gone, and they fixed the random reboots I was getting. I was getting kernel panics during navigation which would cause a reboot, and that is gone.

I'm very happy with this update. "Bloatware" is silly, they added a game to it. Who cares?

I don't know where you're getting the suggestion that the update was targeted at rooters or people running custom ROMs. They didn't even patch the root exploits, and there are already custom ROMs based off it.

Removing the kernel panics was reason enough for me to get it. Whatever they did to smooth things out was icing on the cake. The new dialer with the dynamic entries as you dial is a nice little tweak too. The battery manager wasn't a huge deal to me but it's nice to have it back.

I am waiting to see if the two themes I use will work, or if they will be ported to .340 before I update. I use Invertnito and BixDX Serenity. I'm currently running fabs ApeX and would like to update but the aesthetics are important to me and I haven't found any themes I like that are specifically for .340

.
what?
where do you get that from this;
"also from what ive read it is only a patch, possibly causing more issues for rooted/custom rom runners with dealing with getting updated."

all i said is i read somewhere that it being a patch may cause more problems for custom rom runners trying to get back to factory to get the update....look at all the help me threads.

i never said anything about anything being aimed at anything.....

i appreciate all the responses guys....i just wanted to verify if any of the info. i had picked up was correct and if there was anything i personally am worried about getting out of this....
helps out a lot :)

Guess I misunderstood.

However, with the 2.3.320 full SBF released, and the .340 /system SBF released, it's pretty easy to get updated. Run the full SBF, then either run the /system SBF or install a ROM like ApeX. Boom, done.

I'm not happy with this one: "Weather widget stays with assigned location updates, not current location"

I used to be able to check my current location weather while on the road with a couple of weather apps. Now they all report my home weather. I hope they get updated to bypass this.
wow, i thought they must have fixed a bug for people who want to only see the weather in one place by selecting that option....
i didnt realize it was something they implemented that will effect those who want current location weather....that sux.

Like any other update that comes down the pipe you will have your fair share of people who experience MORE problems after doing the update than before. Inevitibly every time they do an update there are those who claim their phones were running perfectly before, only to have chaos afterwards. If you buy into these claims then you should never do an update ever, because you will always find cases such as these.

My choice is to make my device up to date, and deal with any bugs that kernel has (haven't found a perfect one yet). Change is always unnerving to some. Which is understandable if you're happy with the performance you're getting out of it right now and are afraid one of these horror stories (read about ekyle and his hapless hunt to reroot his poor DX) may happen to you.

The chances are slim at best that they will, but there always is that chance. The question is, "do I feel lucky"... well do ya? Punk!

(lol, I hope you are a Dirty Harry fan... or are at least familiar with that quote. I was just messing with ya)

------------------------------

EXCEPT:

when hooking up to my net book initially:
i had to put phone into boot loader first, then hook to net book (as hooking to net book first turned the phone on and booted into operation mode).

net book = laptop (for the computer terminology dis advantaged).

after the process; the phone turned itself on, i didnt have to and it showed 100% done but still in progress on computer.
i disconnected, did a factory reset (settings, security, etc.)
then followed the directions for non boot as stated above, wiping data etc.

hope this helps someone. update went through.
