Am I the only one that thinks the evo 3d is a beast!!!!!

It seems like no one is excited about this phone......all I hear is the 3d is a gimmick and it don't have a kick stand and this and that, but lets be serious the phone has improve in every single way u could imagine, no one is talking bout how u can now record in 1080p in 2d mode which means its got a better camera and camcorder, its got a way better processor, more ram and rom, higher screen resolution, gingerbread, I saw a video and they said its the only phone with sense 3.0, surround sound speakers and etc.......imagine when u overclock this phone how its gonna be.......I'm just saying if u don't like the fact that it has 3d and don't have a kick stand keep ur old phone or get a thunderbolt, I no it ain't no other phone out there better, I guarantee once yall play with it in sprint or bestbuy yall will change ur minds........I can't wait to get this phone.

Yeah, I agree. I seem to be very confused because there isn't a lot of hubbub about this phone. Imo, the specs look amazing. And I full well intend on buying the case with the kickstand; problem solved.

Would anyone who is not excited about this phone educate me as to the pitfalls of the phone? I truly am curious; maybe I'm missing something?

Not sure very many people aren't excited at the phone. I think you just see people voicing their opinions about the kickstand and some think the specs are big enough of a leap.

I'm not sure where you got surround sound speakers from OP.....I guarantee you it doesn't come with 5 speakers.

The phone itself is pretty impressive, but I think people tend to focus on the negatives first. Secondly I think a lot of people are still satisfied with their EVO's so it makes an update a bit less exciting.

I'm somewhat excited, but as far as specs, while they are quite good, I don't see them as amazing, they're simply on par for what's to expected soon. The Samsung Galaxy S II, LG 2X, etc, will for the most part have similar specs to the EVO, though newer processors as well.

The specs are definitely impressive - and who cares about the kickstand?? I had a phone with a kickstand and got rid of it, it was a waste of weight and space. 3d isn't a big selling point for me but I think eventually it will produce some cool stuff like 3d games and widgets.

Link below and others out there similar may be the origin of the surround sound speculation.

Look under the "Multimedia" section:
"SRS virtual surround sound for wired headphone"

HTC - Products - HTC EVO 3D ? Specification

I think the surround sound is coming from one speaker on the front and one on the back of the device. I guess that's a phone's version of "surround sound"

IT was mentioned in the 26 min video, like another post said one speaker on the front and back. SRS option while playing videos.

Yes I am not keen on 3D, but getting more more excited about this device.

Plenty of people are excited. Plenty of people are hung up on the fact that it is a 3D phone as well. You will often get the naysayers shouting more loudly than those who have praise in almost every facet of life. :(

Yep. I think a lot of people (including myself) have the misconception that this phone was entirely 3D in that the display was always 3D. Now knowing that this isn't the case, I am super excited about this and even more excited that I can take 3D movies with my phone.

Spec wise it's probably the best smartphone that has been announced. I'm no fan of 3D but i'll still buy this phone.

I think the reason you're not seeing the kind of excitement you saw with the original EVO is because it's not setting a new standard like the EVO 4G did.

LG already announced 3D, Motorola has been using qHD screens for over like a year now, The Atrix is already available with a dual core processor and 4G ... Well, Verizon is using LTE and it actually works as intended.

I'm not saying the EVO 3D isn't a nice phone, but now there's other options on the market or getting ready to hit the market. Plus, if your going to put out a successor, you never ever take something away from the original, ie Kickstand, you should only add to the original.

What would have really made the Evo 3D standout is having a few things in addition to what has been already announced in the specs, like the kickstand, NFC, more internal memory for storage and LTE support. We might not know what Sprint's future 4G strategy might be, but having a device that can handle the other 4G technology would sure make people feel better about getting the EVO 3D.

BTW, if I were Sprint and if the MSM8960 becomes available in time, I'd switch the processor over so it has the LTE capability. If the MSM8960 is out of question, I'd look for a different 4G chip like the Beceem BCS500.

Believe me, if the EVO 3D comes out with only WiMax as the 4G option, and Sprint announces that they will start installing LTE as part of Network Vision/Project Leapfrog, there's going to be a lot of pissed off customers.

This is my biggest worry. While I'm a huge tech enthusiast, without Gold status I just don't have the cash to comfortably lay out retail amount to upgrade every year...It sounds as though if Sprint were to make this change, they'd try to hit the ground running and get LTE up and going asap. Sure, I'd have WiMax still, but I can't imagine any more WiMax footprint being added if the switch was made, so I'd be stuck with my shiny new phone and no foreseeable extra coverage area til my contract was up.

That said, I agree with the OP, it does look like a beast. I'm interested to see some benchmarks closer to release. Processor looks like it'll hold up, but the big ? to me is the GPU. I'd like to see how it performs against other stuff out there.

People are treating Sprint LTE like the boogyman.

The world didn't fall apart when 4G Wimax became available, or when 3G came online. Someone is always left out in the cold. That is the nature of this industry.

Technology moves forward, and people either jump on board, or don't. Either way, tech will continue to change quickly, and I personally won't be sitting on the sidelines over the specter of LTE.

LTE or no NO-LTE, my purchases will continue to be well researched, and upgrades will be yearly.

As it stands, I plan on getting an Evo 3D, and will rock on with Wimax until an alternative on Sprint becomes viable, affordable, accessible and within my upgrade period.

If LTE is announced the day after I get my Evo 3D, I wont lose any sleep over it.

If it is it not like Wimax will turn off that day. I am sure the people at Sprint are aware of how this would reflect the customer base, and with all the people on this board am I am there will be a Leak of the first LTE once it gets in to production.

as Viber said, they phone still looks great w/ or w/o 3D and we should not worry about LTE Project until, it is decided.

One thing I dont get in perspective to what you have said is that we are getting a phone(3D) that adds all three, qHD, Dual core and 4G into one.

Atrix and its dual core is great, but look at how AT&T has locked it down, especially with its almost nonexistant 4G speed. No matter how much of a monster phone the Atrix is, I could never have it due to AT&T needing to cripple some features.

Sure the Thunderbolt and its LTE speeds are phenominal, but how are the speeds going to be when their are more users on more phones on LTE? The Single core processor doesnt do any favors for the TB, which is making the battery life abysmal compared to even the Evo. Whats the point of having a high speed phone that can only last you 6 hrs?

And just cause LG has announced 3D, doesnt mean their phones will automatically be superior to the E3D in 3D aspect. And I cant stand LG phones.

Not trying to start an arguement, just wanted to point out some Pro's to the E3D that it is going to have.

Two best points of yours IMO. I hate having to charge my battery in the middle of the day in hopes that it will still be on when I get home late at night.

LG phones = Moto Q as far as I'm concerned.

Yea, dont get me wrong, if I was on Verizon, I would probably have a Thunderbolt....seeing how I could just keep it plugged into my laptop at work.

But the inconvenience of that would be annoying....and good luck if you were out all day with no access to charging.

And I just dont do LG phones, never like the build or quality of them.

To me, the E3D is the next Evolution of the EVO. Just the same as the Evo helped bring other phone features that werent exactly new anymore to light(Front facing camera for one thing).

I just see anything really special about the E3D. All the primary features, 3D, qHD, and dual core are available on other phones.. That's what I'm saying.

The Atrix is a nice phone... What you're doing is knocking AT&T about it's network speed. The phone being locked is probably a Moto thing. Getting back to network speed, I wouldn't say Sprint's 4G or 3G is any better. Wimax has so many holes in their coverage, I can't even use it when mobile. I can't even us it in most homes or offices. As for Sprint's 3g, recently I've only been getting 200kb down on average. Sprint needs to get their Network Vision rolling because current speeds are like being on CDMA 1X and it seems like it's a nationwide issue. That's based on posts from their Facebook page and other sites like XDA.

As to the Thunderbolt ... Battery life does sux, but I'd say it's no different then when the EVO 4D was 1st released. Also, LTE is on all the time, if you did that with an EVO 4G, the battery life is even worse (It constantly searches for WiMax because of the swiss cheese WiMax network). Plus, I'm not sure if you can compare the battery life to the E3D, since the E3D hasn't been released and Sprint/HTC are hush hush on it.... I think we're just hoping battery life is better and think it is because we know it's got a bigger battery and dual core processor. For all we know, it could be worse because it has to drive a qHD screen that's capable of 3D, even if we're not viewing 3D content.

You're right... We can't make an assumption that 3D on the Optimus 3D is any better, but I never said it was. I was just saying 3D is available on the LG.

I just think they need to do more on the E3D to make it a super hit, like the EVO 4G was, where they, Sprint, can gain customers. With the current specs, the E3D isn't anything special and Sprint's network isn't something to cheer about either.

Great to see you back here dude.

My history with LG phones is total crap. Never will I make that mistake again.

Yea ekt, Im back. Pretty much disappeared once I had my Evo rooted and running to my personal choice.

Another year, another Season, hope the Phillies finish it right this time.

But back to the E3D, to me, it is a jump over the EVO. Pretty much all specs of it are a natural course of technology progressing.

1.2 Dual core, more RAM, ROM, Cameras, etc.....I'm just not sure what people were looking for in the next EVO phone?

Granted as I have said in another thread, I get my upgrades every year. So its not as much as a costly choice in getting the E3D this year, and then something even better(EVO 2?Possibly) comes out in 2012.

Edit: And sure the 3D might just be a gimmick, but we dont physically know ourselves yet. It's no different than having 4G(To be honest, I hardly ever use it) and a FFC(Which I have only used 1 time.)

Doubt there will be an EVO 2 since this has been declared the EVO 4G successor. I guess you never know though.

I agree with the "what people were looking for in the next EVO phone?" I've never had 4G so the prospects of that do little for me. And as I have said multiple times, I am always on campus and have constant DL speeds of 1-2MB/s so this really doesn't do much for me. I've been holding out for a newer phone than the EVO since I was ready to make the jump from big red in January.

I live/work in an area where 4G is Strong/fair reception in most places I'm at(Including indoors) and I rarely have it on. I get 2 bars of 4G in my office, which is shocking since I hear all this stuff about WiMax not penetrating buildings....I doubt there is a 4G tower on my office.

So I never use 4G, only real time I need/use it is if I need to send/download a HUGE file, which is hardly ever. I still love my EVO regardless, and still feel that it is Top 5 in Smartphones.

But I still see the EVO 3D being more of a jump higher than the EVO, than say iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4. Plus we still have no confirmation of all the features that we might not have heard about in the 3D.

I pretty much bolted out of here as well after I got my Evo and hung out at XDA, rooting and flashing ROM after ROM til I discovered CyanogenMod.

As far as specs are concerned it seems to me like people want their phones to do everything from their taxes to certain sexual favors and then when the phones come out you hear "eh this is just a gimmick. I'm not going to use that", then months all you hear about is how great said gimmick is. Consumers are inherently fickle is all.
